in as much you’re right , it doesn’t change the fact that Sunday Ugochukwu Oliseh isn’t Igbo

I guess he seeking attention that why he made such statements
I think he is just educating people instead of seeking for attention.

There are so many ethnicities in Nigeria that if you study one every week, it will take you 5years to study all, people do not want to see the uniqueness in the different ethnicities,
It annoying if I tell someone that "though our cultures are alike but we are different," and the person decide to insult me rather than learning from it. I can't tell if this is low key colonization.

His surname "Oliseh" is just the dialect used in Abavo to say "Olisah", which is another name for God in Igbo

Who cares where you come from, go to the North, mention your name and tell them you are not Igbo...
Your name is Ogochukwu Olise and you are not Igbo.

I think ngaji is spoon to both dialects too, devil is ekwensu, there are many sha.

But if it's name, I think except the ijaw that we are, we share names with Mexicans and british more than we share with any tribe in Nigeria
no,,,my brother, ada and ekwensu are igbo words not Kalabari..

His middle name is even Ogochukwu; Igbo word for God’s Favours. Yet he’s not Igbo.

I won’t be surprised if Okowa comes out now and says he’s not Igbo after claiming he was Igbo during the electioneering campaigns.

Those people, with their Ikwerre brothers, are lost souls.
igbo is not an ethnicity..igbo is a franchise

in this context you’re far from it

I’m every state their different ethnic groups which align with Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo or just be unique in it own form
For example the ijaws, the benins, the ibibio etc

From all those tribe
Bearing the Igbo name from Rivers to delta and down south toward the southeast, theirs no way they are not Igbos
Just like the isoko are claiming they re not urhobo which In the actual sense they bare urhobo names. Or you will say because itsekiri are in delta state, means they are not of Yoruba or because they where conquered by the benins

Some people from Delta, even onitsha don't answer Igbo. It's not because they are not, but because of cultural differences.
Like my mother is from Atani, in Anambra state, they share the river Niger to Onitsha and Asaba. They speak Igbo but they call us Igbo, in the same state. They say they are not igbos. It is just cultural.

It's not like we hate the igbos, we are just educating people that you can bear igbo names in SS and not be Igbo.

Anybody weh still want to associate us with the igbos is free to live in his ignorance.
Our problem is that, when we tell the igbos that we are not igbo, we need a good response and expect them to see the beauty in our difference and also the uniqueness and appreciate it. What other people thinks is not our concern. Our problem is the igbos who we share this with, we expect them to understand us more as they are closer to us

There are similarities in the Kwa Language continuum e.g

Orisha/Oosha (Yoruba)= Oosa (Bini)= Oritshe (Itsekiri) = Oliseh (Ika) = Olisa (Igbo)

The languages only appear very different when the shared/similar words are combined with non-shared/dissimilar words.

For instance,

Olisa + Debe = Olisadebe (Igbo)
Oosa + Debe= Osadebe (Ika/Igbo)

Oritsa+ jan fo = Oritshajafo (Itsekiri)
Orisha + jen fo= Orishajenfo (Yoruba)

Re: I Am Not Igbo - Sunday Oliseh by ADUBA1(m): 9:15am On May 04, 2023
That is an assertion of his true identity by lineage and not by the language of Igbo that influenced those in the West of River Niger. The place called Abavo clan was founded by Avbavbo who migrated from Benin City. The word Abavo is shortened from Avbavbo. By 1914-16, there was a clash of opinion as to whether Abavo should be administered from Benin or Agbor. As a result of this situation, there was desire that the people be administered from Benin because they claimed to originate from Benin City. Consequently, in 1914, Abavo was administered from Benin. But in 1916,:a further agitation brought them back to Agbor. In 1924, there was a trouble between the Obi and elders of Igbogili village when more than half of the village migrated to settle near Ugoneki in Benin Division. The village is known as Igbogiri. Now just because someone bears Igbo name, that doesn't mean he is igbo.
There is no culture that is 100% independent of other cultures, even the igbos form their culture by imbibing the cultures of others and with time, you begin to take few things that u like about others to make your own.
Football is not a British thing, it was taken from the medieval age, the British only modernized it.
Civilization is not European thing, it started in Africa.
The igbos also took other cultures to form theirs, those igbo name might even belong to some ancient dynasty which your forefathers took so stop the assumption that because they bear igbo names, they automatically become igbos.

Igbos are too special and unique for that

We all saw what happened in Lagos state during the elections...
Even fellow Yorubas were profiled as Igbos and were stopped from voting.. They don't care anybody from Edo downwards is Igbo.

Those tribal bigots in Lagos state and the the North are the people you should be explaining to why you aren't Igbo..

Anybody from Edo is NOT Igbo.

Ethnic identity is self-identity.

No one needs the approval or permission of others to be who they want to be.

They are plainly ignorant.

All over the world, ethnic groups overlap and people bear similar names and speak similar languages with varying degrees of differences.

For instance, it is very common to see Europeans from different countries/ethnic groups bearing similar names e.g Williams/Whilem, Henri/Henry, Peter/Peitro,Pedro, Charles/Karl, Ceaser/Kaiser/Czar etc

He is not igbo, whether he decides to tell the universe his name or not does not matter

I'd advice you to travel to the SS region, it will do you some good when you know that there are people who doesn't see the need for tribal recognition due to how entagled the different tribes are.
There is little descrimination here among etnicities, therefore the need to start shouting your tribe is a nuisance to most of us and we have taken that life outside our comfort zones.

I had two roommates in school who was with me from 100level till final year, we are all from Rivers but I never knew what part of Rivers they came from until we graduated because it never mattered to us, as long as we knew that we are from Rivers State, that enough to consider ourselves as brothers.
2moro, if you as an igbo man asks me for my tribe, I will tell you it is not necessary, you might see me as some weird person, so will i see u as one, but the truth is our different cultures treats it differently.
Cultural diversity is the beauty of Nigeria and we should learn to see the beauty that try to descriminate.
I don't care for much of what you wrote. But you see the bolded, it's a lie. Cultural diversity is not the beauty of Nigeria. The beauty of Nigeria is oil. Cultural diversity is the bane of Nigeria

He should change his IGBO names first..

Oliseh
Ogochukwu

These are not Yoruba or Hause names, you know?

They are his names. No tribe has copyright over names.

There are Idoma and Igbo people who bear similar names e.g Ada

There are Yoruba and Edo people who bear similar names e.g Akpata/ Apata

There are French and English who bear similar names e.g Charles, Louis, Henri/Henry.

Portuguese and Spanish people bear the same names
