The Man behind the famous London Gatwick Airport is Adebayo O Ogunlesi, a Nigerian who base in the United States. He is an indegine of Sagamu in Ogun State. Adebayo is a Nigerian born lawyer and an investment banker.

Ogunlesi acquired the London Gatwick Airport in 2009 at about £ 1.455 billion from the British Airport Authority (BAA) Airport Limited.


He also has to his name as the owner of Nuovo Transporto Viaggiatoris, a train company operating in Italy which he bought through GIP in February 2010. The company became Europe’s first Private Open Access Operator of 300 km/h (190 mph).

According to research, he also acquired 2 other Airports, London City Airport which he bought through GIP in 2006 and the Edinburgh Airport acquired by Ogunlesi in 2012.


Did I mention that Adebayo O Ogunlesi is a law graduate from one of the prestigious University, Harvard. After earning his law degree, he was called to the Columbia Bar Association. His father, Theophilus O Ogunlesi was the first Nigerian Professor of Medicine at the University of Ibadan. Success runs in the family.

When you’re talking about one of the richest men in Africa, Ogunlesi’s name comes to mind but as it stands, his name isn’t included among one of the richest men in Africa. This confirms that wealthy people don’t need to be announced on Forbes Magazine before you know they are wealthy. Their accomplishments speaks for them as seen in the case of Ogunlesi.

Adebayo Ogunlesi is a managing partner of a private equity firm called 'Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP)' - yes.
But he does not own the airport, so please get your #Facts right.

VINCI Airports now owning the majority shareholding of 50.01% and the remainder owned by a consortium of investors and managed by Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), who have operated Gatwick since 2009.
