Raingun Expert Needed by Wodu89: 10:23am On May 13, 2023 |
I want to start to plan for my future. This future is about setting up a fully.irrigated farm using rainguns. I want to know the entire setup cost and will pay a tip to anyone that can complete the grid in my mind. I will like to know the number of rain guns to buy. I want to setup a 100 acres Raingun-Irrigated farm. I will like to know the number of rain guns to buy I also like to know the estimate time it will take to irrigate the 100 acres at once I also want to know the estimated quantity of fuel it will take to irrigate the 100 acres I will pay 4000 Naira for a complete design system. |

I want u to thank God because you have not bought the rainguns yet. Why waste so much money? I even regret buying the one I bought years ago. Please go for spray tubes or drip irrigation. Which crops will u be planting? |

FarmTech: I need an expert to consider the pros and cons of both. I prefer rainguns in all honesty. I've met two people who regretted rainguns, but for my projects establishment, it's rainguns that are more suitable. Maize 60-80 acres bracket. Would you consider drip tubes better for this land size ? If so, why? |

Wodu89:For 100 acres, don't use raingun , don't use drip, the best for such is furrow, don't go and waste your money. |

Re: Raingun Expert Needed by FarmTech(m): 6:22pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
Tohsynetita1:. Furrow? He shud not even try that one. Fuel cost will eat up a lot. Drip and spray tubes are the best. . And he shud start small. |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by Tohsynetita1: 7:23pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
FarmTech:Drip tube for one acre is around 1 million naira, drip is costlier than furrow. Even if you use drip, you will still use fuel. |

Tohsynetita1: What would be the estimated cost to make furrow over an acre ? |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by Tohsynetita1: 7:47pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
Wodu89:per acre should be like 150 to 200k together with pumping machine expenses, but furrow is best if their is a river source or ocean because it waste water. but wasting water is better than wasting fuel and money. Besides, for 100 acre, one bore hole cannot sustain it, you need a dam or Big river or if you can dig like 10 borehole on the 100 acre land. furrow irrigation only need pumping machine and a pipe. that pipe isn't not really important if you don't want to. but it will be around the length of your farm. So the pipe you will buy will be around 1000m, if that's your farm length. for Drip irrigation, you will spend like 1 million naira on an acre. |

Tohsynetita1:their is a link on Nairaland in 2016 about all irrigation type, furrow was cheapest then. I am trying to send it but could not. |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by Tohsynetita1: 7:59pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
disadvantages of furrow is just it waste water, it's not good for a bad topographical terrain. then, you may need to dig the furrow like 2wice in a year as sand cover due to rain and that also could be avoided with restraining devices. |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by Wodu89: 8:58pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
Tohsynetita1: Very resourceful ideas. I'm a believer in furrow. Everything will be experimented |

If u have d money to irrigate a 100 acre farm considering local Nigerian conditions, i will advise u to buy a fire truck, and a 33,000 liter tanker, then modify the firing nozzle by fitting ur rain gun there, viola ur mission to irrigate starts Caveat: U still have a lot of challenges to face..... Irrigation is not cut and sow, its highly technical......but u will take solace in d fact that with the set up above, if it fails u will not be left with things that have poor resale value 1 Like |

Tohsynetita1: If done well you can irrigate 100acres at once without buying a drop of fuel, by just damming the stream..... My only problem with furrow is not even waste of water but waste of fertilizer |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by Tohsynetita1: 9:50pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
betabread:Abi o, and someone here said it waste fuel. you can use liquid fertilizer now. How does damming works? |

betabread:Abi, o, and some here talk say furrow consumes fuel most. As per fertilizer, use liquid fertilizer now |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by Wodu89: 9:56pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
Furrow irrigation would indeed lead to a run off of fertilizer. Anything that costs more than 350,000 Naira per acre to irrigate is also too much This thread is important because of the disruptive weather patterns that fossil fuel exposes us to in the future |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by Tohsynetita1: 10:25pm On Jun 04, 2023 |
Wodu89:use organic fertilizer that can be sprayed. |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by FarmTech(m): 7:11am On Jun 05, 2023 |

Re: Raingun Expert Needed by FarmTech(m): 1:25pm On Jun 06, 2023 |
Tohsynetita1:. Yes it waste a lot of fuel if u are pumping the water. But if it is chsnnelling it wont waste fuel. |
Re: Raingun Expert Needed by betabread: 2:38pm On Jun 06, 2023 |
