You have 12yrs between both cars, right? That should tell you something my brother.
Consider what age would have done to the structural integrity of both cars. Every other thing can be fixed from engine to suspension.
In my opinion, Go for the Kia cos of the age difference.

Most people here don't know the recent market value of cars, they just open mouth to say too expensive. Jump at the Honda immediately, don't mind all the novice advising base on Year of both cars. If you don't want future curse from the man, don't advice him to buy KIA, na the part cost go kill the old man and he will not be able to resell it fast.

Honda is the cheapest to maintain&parts, you can put new Honda engine for 190 -200k, Toyota is 300 - 320k.

Buy the Honda CR-V stronger and has second hand value and the parts are affordable and has a simple engine in terms of maintenance and the Kia the parts are very expensive and very high to maintain and no second hand value so go for the Honda CR-V

I wish you can get another vehicle entirely. That CRV is strong quite alright but it is synaminous with ball joint wahala. I won't recommend it to a 1st time driver. The ball joint can pull away at any slightest provocation. Except the person you are buying it for knows much about the car to quickly realise when it's about to pull out. As for Kia, the spare parts may not always be available and expensive.

Both Cars are okay but would advice you go for the CRV.

The CR-V should be a good buy considering maintenance and easy access to parts of the car compared to the Kia. Honda parts are relatively cheap compared to Rio and still have better resell value.

The two cars are a NO,NO,for a pensioner, those twó cars are problematic cars without second hand value.A pensioner should buy a car that will offer him rest of mind.

Most pensioners go for TOYOTA brands and not problematic cars like Kia,Honda,Mazda, Mitsubishi and the rest.

Please, for value for MONEY go for the Honda CRV.
Very roughed and less maintenance cost.

It depends on the condition of the car .... intended driving conditions... and ability to maintain. If the road condition in the buyer's area of travel is terrible... why would he buy a car instead of a SUV? Newer vehicles are more complexed to fix because of the heavy use of electronics.... and most mechanics are unqualified to fix then.... more will be familiar with the problems of a 1999 vehicle and know the solution. Availability of spare parts ..... more difficult to obtain for the Kia.

Also the Honda is a Mini SUV whereas the Kia is a Sedan meaning it will navigate through rough terrain easily than the kia
The Honda is Automatic while the Kia is manual, which will make it stressful for an aged pensioner to be struggling with.
In my opinion and experience the Honda is the better car amongst this 2cars. Just make sure the engine, gear, AC, ball joints, steering rack are intact all other things like body, interior are secondary.
You can however renegotiate the price.
