In my honest opinion, the situation will not change until we introduce selection of people into government, military, schools and civil services based on merit and not quota system.
The quota system that they are enjoying is one of the reasons they don't take education serious.

You have a strong point. I am also going to discuss this issue from another angle. We know it for a fact that the level of education is really low in the North compared to let's say the west, in a scenario where Quota system is not used, dont you think that a situation may arise where most positions in the country will have no northerner or very few? and would we not be back to that lack of inclusiveness that the quotation system seems to avert?

The two assertions are wrong. Some of the best Universities are in the North, some world renowned technicians are northerners, the North has produced most presidents of Nigeria and If you have had to compete academically with an intelligent Northerner, you'll understand. Secondly, we almost had a Woman Governor in Adamawa and Taraba, the Minister of Humanitarian affairs and some others are northern women. How's that backwardness. It's understandable that tangible part of the population didn't have western education but most Northerner have a good level of Islamic education.

merit and competence has been sacrificed on the altars of mediocrity and nepotism,Islam is not an excuse for illetracy and backwardness,the first scientists,mathematicians,explorers,adventurers and thinkers are moslems and moors,it is how we interpret Islam in Nigeria that is the problem

Truth be told it's not religion but culture. Hausa culture is interwoven with religion to the point you can not separate the two or tell them apart. Hausa man will reproduce a large number of children he can not handle if you ask him why he will tell you he is serving his religion and God will take care of them for him. But in reality it's Hausa culture in past that a man with more children gets more helping hand in his farm.
Women are discouraged by culture to pursue education. The more educated you are the less likely to get a husband. A man with a lot of children will send some to Almajiri School to get rid of their responsibility.
A Hausa will tell you family planning is a sin and an abomination yet he will reproduce and won't care for the children in terms of modern education.

There are also some south west states who once toed this path before Awolowo liberated them. Kwara is even worse off. Only the igbomina and ekiti-kwara people are the most educated zones in kwara till date. I could count the number of Ilorin indigenes in the entire faculty in those days.

Oyo state used to be educationally backward too, especially the old oyo state. Things are changing now. Till today, Ekiti is still far more educated than oyo state, though they're picking up fast. Northern people too are waking up. Its better late than never but the difference between North and South can not be filled, not even in 50 years to come, provided the south remains in same position, which isn't possible.

I'm not sure Ogun state govt has even rehabilitated any secondary School for the past 8 years.

The location of the signing of d amalgamation document was Zungeru, Niger State. That was the Capital of the British Protectorate of Northern Nigeria from 1902 until 1916

There were 6 people and the rest of the 22 were British.

The document stated that after 100 years, each party can re-evaluate & determine if they want to continue together or go their separate ways.

It's not about number of schools in the North, they just don't see any reason to go to school. Classes are empty while mosques are full. It's very painful cos their forefathers were both learned in Quran and western education

North were educated in the late 1800 to 1920s they were mostly the British Clarks

It is not religion; it's selfish elite.
Northern elite prefer people they can control like sheep. You cannot control an educated mind.
Once the northern elite allow their people to get educated, they will lose the grip and control.
That's why they will rather build a mosque for them than build a school.
