Dangote Refinery is a Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke OSOGBO-21/05/2023- The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has described the just completed Dangote Refinery as "a continental game changer with huge capacity to positively transform Nigeria and African economy" In a congratulatory message to the Chairman of Dangote Holdings, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Governor Adeleke noted that the completion of the refinery within such a record time signals a new era of energy sufficiency for Nigeria and Africa, noting specifically that "the new facility will service Africa and boost local and continental GDP" Praising Dangote's ingenuity behind the conception and implementation of the project, the Governor testified that the successful completion is an affirmation of the business acumen and integrity of the Chairman of Dangote Holdings, a personality he said has become "a major propeller of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCTA). " By his extensive investment across Africa and by his latest accomplishment with this biggest refinery on the continent, Alhaji Dangote is unarguably the patron of AfCTA, a facilitator of intra and inter African trade, an enabler of Africans trading with Africans and mobiliser of African capital serving Africa", Governor Adeleke declared. Governor Adeleke who described Alhaji Dangote as a blessing to the black world said the refinery project remains a landmark initiative, a gift of Africa to world business and a declaration of Nigeria's emergence as a global player in the old and new business order. Signed Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Executive Governor 4 Likes 1 Share

Great strides... I hope his politics wont sabotage other modular refineries like that of Edo state etc.. and others springing up... its a known fact, Dangote hates competition. I also hope the import of petrol without subsidy would be left open to curtail in-house monopoly/price wars viz-avis he decides to get greedy on the chase to capital recovery.. lets not make the same mistake Buhari made with rice and border closure, it would be catastrophic.. |

Parachoko: Make una dey fear God sometimes, plans for dangote refinery started 2013, the person that should take credit is the governor at the time. The actual site was chosen in 2016 after fashola tenure Tinubu tenure ended 6 years earlier before Dangote unveiled his plans to build refinery See below from Wikipedia Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote unveiled early plans for the refinery in September 2013, when he announced that he had secured about $3.3 billion in financing for the project.[3] At the time, the refinery was estimated to cost about $9 billion, of which $3 billion would be invested by the Dangote Group and the remainder via commercial loans, and begin production in 2016.[3] However, after a change in location to Lekki, construction of the refinery did not begin until 2016 with excavation and infrastructure preparation, and the planned completion was pushed back to late 2018. 3 Likes 1 Share |

kettykings:Without Asiwaju, there will be no Dangote Refinery in Lagos. If Ondo State had a visionary leader like Asiwaju, the refinery would have been located in Ondo State Even Dangote is grateful to Asiwaju for making it possible. 3 Likes 1 Share |

kettykings: The reason why people always attribute it to Tinubu was because Dangote refinery is located in Lekki Free zone and it was Tinubu government that established it. Successive Lagos governors continued the legacy and Dangote eventually brought his refinery there. Even outside the government, Tinubu played a huge role in helping Dangote to that particular Lekki free zone. https://lfzdc.org/about-us/

Parachoko: That is a ridiculous and preposterous statement to make, no offense. Asiwaju envisioned and facilitated a conducive and incentivized environment for investments (not just Dangote) and Dangote the astute businessman that he is, took the opportunity to establish his mega project in the FTZ (incentivized by FG NEPZA). He sourced for his own financing, built his refinery, petro-chemical plant, private jetty, access roads etc. without any input by our dear President-elect. From the foregoing, without taking any credit from him for facilitating the Lekki FTZ, it’s impossible to say without Asiwaju, there wouldn’t be a Dangote Refinery in Lagos. |
Re: Dangote Refinery Is A Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke by Parachoko: 6:44am On May 22, 2023 |
QuotaSystem:He wanted to build his refinery in Delta then later in a FTZ owned by Ondo/Ogun State before Why did he eventually relocate it to Lagos State FTZ? Or have you forgotten there was a time he wanted to build his refinery at the Olokola FTZ? |
Re: Dangote Refinery Is A Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke by QuotaSystem: 6:59am On May 22, 2023 |
Parachoko: The geographical location of the refinery is ideal for easy transhipment of the refined petroleum products to international markets. Dangote built a jetty near the project site to receive heavy equipment for the construction. It was a strategic decision. |
Re: Dangote Refinery Is A Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke by Parachoko: 7:09am On May 22, 2023 |
QuotaSystem:If the Lagos State Govt didn't create the conducive environment, he won't site his project in Lagos State. It was the Niger Delta he wanted to build the refinery before. |
Re: Dangote Refinery Is A Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke by QuotaSystem: 7:31am On May 22, 2023 |
Parachoko: What makes that “conducive environment” are basically the incentives that the FTZ provides (which is powered by FG NEPZA). Infrastructurally, I need not remind you Dangote constructed his own jetty, access roads etc. |
Re: Dangote Refinery Is A Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke by Parachoko: 7:51am On May 22, 2023 |
QuotaSystem:Do you think The Dangote Refinery is the only industry at the Lekki Free Trade Zone? He could do all this because of the conducive environment the Lagos State Govt have created. The incentives by the FG would have been useless without the full support of the Lagos State Govt who owns the land at Ibeju Lekki. The location he constructed his jetty is not owned by the FG but by the Lagos State Govt. He could have done all the things you listed above at the Olokola FTZ in Ondo State which also have access to the Sea, but he eventually choose Lagos because of the conducive environment by the Lagos State Govt. Not only Dangote is enjoying the conducive environment created by the Lagos State Govt at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, there's hundreds of industries at the LFTZ who are all enjoying the conducive environment of the Lagos State Govt. Dangote even invited and thank Asiwaju at an event hosted by Dangote Fertilizer more than a year ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdfO6Do34eQ |
Re: Dangote Refinery Is A Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke by QuotaSystem: 8:25am On May 22, 2023 |
Parachoko: We are singing from the same book but different pages. Of course the federal incentives would be useless without the active involvement of the state and Lagos’ higher commitment to the initiative won it the project. Like stated in my earlier post, nobody can take away credit from Asiwaju for facilitating the LFTZ, but saying the mega-refinery would be outrightly impossible without it is stretching it a bit too far. |
Re: Dangote Refinery Is A Continental Game Changer - Governor Adeleke by Parachoko: 8:29am On May 22, 2023 |
QuotaSystem:I was not talking about Nigeria but Lagos State. He could have built his mega refinery in Delta State a long time ago, there was a reason he couldn't and relocated the site to the Olokola FTZ located in Ondo State. |
