Followed this stuff all through yesterday. Pat Utomi tweeted on it but neither did he admit nor debunk it in my view.

I don't think standard employment terms apply here.

Ben Hundeyin said she was being charged at a court martial for desertion. In a profession where employees are expected or even obligated to sacrifice their lives for the badge, I don't think we can apply standard employment terms.

To be honest, whilst if she absconded before working her full notice period at a normal job, her employers would not only be well within their rights to try to recover salary costs from her, but a particularly petty organisation could legally pursue her for the cost of lost revenue, although they would need to be able to prove that her absence led to the organisation's inability to satisfy contractual obligations.

The biggest takeaway here is that everybody needs to read their employment contract thoroughly before they sign. If you signed up to work for a police force that includes detaining abscondees in its disciplinary handbook, then the game is the game.
I was referring to the nearly 12 months period that elapsed while her resignation was delayed BEFORE she deserted. From what we know so far i don't think she was in any official trouble until she deserted, and she only deserted because they refused to process her resignation in a timely manner. Even then, in most organisations you can't be forced to stay back to work just because you are being investigated for fraud or some other misdeed. If the misdeed can result in criminal prosecution that can go ahead whether you are still working there or not.

The military (and maybe the police) can be different though. This is where your point about the terms of her contract comes in. Is it a fixed-term contract thing without option of resignation, or with resignation accepted only at the discretion of the authorities?

The other issue is that she handled the situation all wrong, first by absconding and secondly by aiming for social media justice. Something that could have been solved in the first place by getting a competent lawyer. Even if the police messed up by delaying a resignation she was entitled to, she bailed them out by deserting.

Madam is a lawyer, one guy who had a case had his passport seized and he literally procured a new one and got visa and travelled in and out of the country. Naija ehn.

With the way the police meant him on this matter, I still think it was a stupid move though
Na so big men dey do for naija na. That was how Mompha has been out of the country since he made bail. In fact they are currently proceeding with his trial in absentia while's flexing in Dubai.

Anything goes in naija if u get small money.

I saw a video of Ben Bruce at the Dangote refinery. He basically said expect prices of Oil to increase, We will pay market value. Dangote set the refinery to make money not for charity. If he doesn't charge market value, he will go broke and bankrupt

The only thing that is guaranteed with the commencement of operation of Dangote refinery is that we won't be experiencing fuel scarcity going forward.

As far as price is concerned, nothing will change in the short run.

a lot of us have disregard for process or take it for granted. and when you want to fk with a person from within a structured environment, you use the process on him. this lady has effectively done a seun kuti to herself - she has flouted the rules, and she has made sure everyone is aware she did so. unless she can demonstrate that her ogas at the top have refused to act on her resignation. it is possible but will be very hard to prove
She should have gotten a lawyer that specializes in labor laws or check for herself, the policies and procedures that guide termination, resignation and other forms of disengagement in the Nigerian Police Force.

The policies and procedures of the company or the Police in this instance will state the timeline for processing a resignation and other forms of disengagement. If the policy has a defined timeline and it has expired then she can sue or seek relief using the established policy, however, if there is no timeline to process a resignation which would be unusual then it is deemed she deserted her job based on how the policy and procedures define "deserting" in the Police Force.

First thing, the 5000 workers at the refinery will be mostly Nigerians living in Nigeria chopping and contributing back to the economy. Unlike the refineries based abroad that create job for their host countries

2nd shipping cost can be saved too

The way some people believe in this social media thing and every case its straight to social media

You have an issue with your boss or colleague sitting in the next office - Straight to Social media
You have an issue with your spouse sitting or sleeping next to you - Straight to social media
You dey chop for restaurant, food get too much salt, portion small, or burn- straight to social media

What attention were you hoping to gain from social media beyond shaming the person publicly? Aside massaging your ego and getting e-likes and retweets from your e-friends who mostly cannot help you

Court fines ex-presidential candidate N40m for seeking to halt Tinubu’s inauguration.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday, May 25, 2023, slammed a fine of N40 million on a former Presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party, Chief Ambrose Albert Owuru, for filing a frivolous suit to stop the inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29.

The court ordered the politician to pay the fine of N10 million each to President Muhammadu Buhari, Attorney General of the Federation AGF, INEC & Tinubu whom he made 1st to 4th defendants in the matter.

Justice Jamil Tukur, who read the lead judgment of the three-man panel of the court, held that Owuru embarked on gross abuse of the court process by filing a frivolous, vexatious & irritating suit to provoke the respondents.

The judge held that the grievances of Owuru against the 2019 presidential election were not only strange but uncalled for because the grievances had been pursued up to Supreme Court and were dismissed for want of merit.

Companies have responded by developing policies and procedures that guide the use of social media by their employees as it relates to the company. You can be disciplined or terminated for violating any of the social media policy of your company or the Nigerian Police in this instance.

The only thing Dangote will remove is shipping cost, however he may close the smuggling loophole, allowing FG to better afford subsidy

Good

Any frivolous lawsuit that goes to supreme court should be 100M per suit fine with a guarantee of landed property incase you fail to pay the fine

The supreme court justices are not for playplay

To be fair as much as social media has nuisance value you can't underestimate it's power to bring attention to an issue. Whether it will bring a resolution to the said issue is another debate entirely.
