If a private businessman wants to site an airport in a place like Akwa Ibom, he will firts think of number people in the state who go to other states to fly international ( how significant are they in the scheme of things ?), The number of residents of other neighboring states who also need access to international airport, how close is the nearest international airport and even carry out a survey of those target foreigners if they will like to visit Akwa Ibom more often if there’s an international airport sited there .

We all know government will skip all this and just invest billions in the project and have praise singers singing about the project in our ears while tying down money that could’ve been to more productive use.

Whatever the illness is must have taken a serous toll on his health . It’s a good thing he’s not going into any elective position for now; he will have time to rest and enjoy time with his family .

Normally one would expect the media to revisit the cargo airport and make findings how many people in the whole Nigeria have had need to send cargo to Ekiti state and they thought Sending it via the cargo airport is the best for them. How well has the cargo airport solved any logistics problem ? How many people have ditched sending cargo via trucks and haulage companies ?

We don’t ask questions in this country .

So my firm developed a transport based concept for a client. Well heeled client. Plenty of money. Initial ball park estimate for the project came to over a billion. Then the numbers guys told us no can do. We will do this in phases. First phase will come under 300m. If phase 1 demonstrates financial viablilty, then we can do the entire project in full. That is how businesses think. At this point no one can say conclusively that the project will actually generate income as it has not been done before. So you manage the resources you deploy towards it.

A fiscally responsible govt will build a single airstrip and control tower and see where it goes from there.

But the reality is that every project has a purpose and the true purpose of the akwa ibom airport project was

1) gomina ego trip monument
2) money for Pandora account.
