Not a fan of BAT, but subsidy needed to go. Waiting any longer would've detrimental to the country.
Although I think waiting for Dangote refinery to be up and running for a month or two before announcing this would've been better.
Also, why is nobody blaming the marketers? Subsidy has not been removed, and they are either hoarding or increasing fuel price for product that was already subsidize. The real saboteur are the marketers.
Re: Just Look At 900 Naira Petrol by seunayantokun(m): 3:01am On May 31, 2023
I've read some posts here and can see the sickening level of how not to play politics or support a political party and its candidate(s).

Tinubu just announced removal of the criminal financial gully erosion tagged PMS subsidy and some Nigerians in the market decided to hoard the product and/or sell at it unpardonable prices. Of course, we all know that is an economic crime, but some people here just flew out to say Tinubu had started on bad note. That kind of criticism is unwholesome.

I must say here that I am not a BAT's supporter, and anyone who cared could search my posts so far on this platform to find out if I have ever supported him. If that presidential election would be reconducted today, I wouldn't blink an eyelid before I thumbprint my ballot paper for Peter Obi. And, if I were a delegate to the APC convention, if the last one they had could ever be reconducted, I wouldn't join the self-centred greedy 'emi lo kan' waggon which didn't properly think of themselves, their children and their future generations but opted out of a gracious opportunity to have a fine gentleman president with a sound mind in a sound body called Prof. Osinbajo. Didn't Peter Obi also say he would remove the obnoxious subsidy immediately if he was voted president? What sane man would get to power and leave that economy killer on for a second? Therefore, I would say we would do well to avoid unnecessary bitterness and criticise polutical leaders and their decisions responsibly.

Dude do you even love Nigeria or this is just trolling and you are having fun? Am asking because if someone so incompetent as Buhari could ruled us and badly too, then I don't think Obi will fare worst if he rules. My point is, he's a better candidate than most and let's hope that in another 4 years time he will be able to run again. Or do you see better alternatives to him for the 2027 race? Sentiments aside.

Re: Just Look At 900 Naira Petrol by wagzy37: 3:23am On May 31, 2023
I’m not a Tinubu supporter but he has shown you the direction his administration will take.

We all agree that fuel subsidy isn’t sustainable. It has to go somehow. But with what our economy is experiencing right now, we are mortgaging our future hugely by continuing fuel subsidy.

Someone here explained it correctly. It’s business! Once you privatize a sector, it becomes a business. You know some of these fuel dealers don’t get money from the government immediately? And some don’t even get government support in securing loans and all . They have to maximize profits. 99% of us will do the exact same thing if we all had filling stations.

It's all nonsensical. The agencies do not protect the people. By now we should have social.medoa platforms including phone numbers we can report unscrupulous filling stations and the agencies must make serious example of some of them.to.serve.as deterrent
Nigeria is not lawless but the people are greedy and wicked. The family unit is rotten. We pray, fast in churches, mosques and traditional centres yet we are the greatest sinners on earth. Tinubu must show he is capable right from Day 1. There must be order and rules must be obeyed. We all love to japa. Let us do what they are doing in those countries we love to go here

I am responding to you because you seem more of someone with good head. At the bolded, irrespective of who is at the helms of affair there will be heavy criticism from direct opposition so it has nothing to do with unnecessary bitterness, that's just deflection of real issues and whether you like it or not, many will keep criticizing him till next 4/8 years. So don't fall into the tribal tricks. Opposition parties will always have a say, it's disingenuous and wickedness when some foolish people try to play the tribal card because that's the only tool they know how to play.

The issue I see in all the announcement is timing. Nigeria economy is volatile hence information should be managed let alone Subsidy.Everyone is ready to adjust to life with increments in fuel price due to the removal hence the topic made a lot of headlines few weeks ago but the major grouse is he shouldn't have announced it since the government isn't ready yet. The announcement brought the panic buy and gave the unscrupulous business men the advantage. One of the basics of governance is information management because it can actually ruin a lot of things. Now it will take weeks for things to get back to normal that's if it will but many citizens have been subjected to untold hardship. It should be a learning point. Just imagine after this stresses and finally it was removed end of June, it will always put the government in the bad book of many Nigerian poor masses. Let the government starts putting measures immediately on ground to ameliorate the sufferings if they are serious about taking it away by the end of June.

Many people have been disillusioned by any policy by the government hence you see a lot of people critical about any policy even if it will favour them because they have lost trust to the governance, so there is no need starting on this note cos this will eventually taint his government with less support
