Raumdeuter was once anti-subsidy removal ; most of the things we argue today as reason for opposing sudden removal , he argued in its favor 11-12 years ago.

Egbon Raumdeuter like most of us today argued about removing subsidy when government agencies don’t even agree on our petroleum consumption figures , he opposed the idea of buying fuel same as developed countries , he even made an economically reasonable decision of critiquing the idea of not paying Nigerians the wage of Americans and expecting them to have the same purchasing powe of Americans .

Before u start saying our opposition of the subsidy removal this time and the way and manner it was announced ; was borne out of our “hate” for Nigeria or Peter Obi’s loss of the election, take a time to reflect on whether most of what egbon raised in these attached have been resolved today.

Do we need to applaud Tinubu for doing exact same thing Jonathan did and was kicked out ?
I am personally not happy about removal of subsidy or underrecovery as they call it as it will lead to a higher cost of living across the board.

However, if the govt is committed to removing the subsidy, this issue of panic buying, hoarding and raising of the price will inevitably follow any announcement.

If the announcement was made in June, we would still have this exact same scenario. If the government defers till January and then announces in January, we will still go through the same transition pains.

Ibime:
If Tinubu is serious about ending subsidy, he cannot and should not mince words

Backtracking or sounding unsure will make importers pause importing, leading to more scarcity

Who will import without subsidy knowing the President could change his mind

Imagine importing at a price that is profitable only when retailed at N500, only to bring fuel on the market and everyone is selling at N200 because they bought later when President changed his mind and gave them subsidy payment. You will make a big loss.

You will rather not import, but wait it out to see the Presidents reaction. This will lead to scarcity

Policy changes must be decisive with no grey areas or counter messaging. Govts in UK fall within days because of policy reversals. See Liz Truss for example
The Irony is that most of the major marketers who are often demonised have wanted subsidy gone since the 2000s. some have made long term investments to reduce their landing costs. If we have true deregulation [ i am not sure this will happen - because diesel is clearly still regulated] a lot of mushroom filling stations will not exist, because They will not be able to compete on price. Large tank farms and associated infrastructure means a major marketer can buy in large volumes at a discount, sell at discount and undercut competition.

We are all in for the best of the country irrespective personal beef for the presidency who doesn't knows whether the"beefer" exists.

We don't trust the gov with money (history has taught us),Also there is no other thong the masses enjoys in the country except the cheap fuel wch in all honesty is the epicentre of our livelihood.

Removing subsidy at once without any form of alleviation or sense of trust will definitely not go well..

Marketers are in for biz and their aim is to make the best of profit...

Dangote's can actually act as palliatives if d President can relate with him.ie giving him crude at a discounted price.......

I am still waiting for the palliatives atleast b4 the end of d month when they believe the no-subsidy sags will commence....

Cos,according to our comrades,we are paying #600 for subsidised fuel even in d eyes of our presido
Lol..Bro,you dey await palliatives abi make we brace up to pay more taxes, levies, charges to boost IGR numbers.

Tinubunomics is all about obsession with IGR(LIRS,LASTMA,LASAA,LAWMA etc,dey get target amount of revenue to generate for LASG and Lagos local government.

Fear no go ever make them open their books for transperancy so we can relate the IGR to the development of Lagos but they can celebrate IGR numbers in Alausa/Marina pass people wey win World cup.

Nope. He made reference to the 2023 budget that it didn't cover for subsidy beyond June and so subsidy is gone.

I'm hearing that the NNPC station in PH that used to sell at 189 even during the last scarcity has now changed their price to 511 naira per litre.

If this is true then I have reasons to believe that this is no longer about greedy petrol station owners.

And I said I don't know what you meant by cronies but the figure is not correct. If by cronies you meant being friends with politicians then does it change anything. Most top business men will always be friends with the government if not for anything but for the sake of their businesses.

Buhari or Tinubu speech on Subsidy...huh

And what happened to the remaining subsidy fund allocated to the end of the monthhuh??

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 10:02am On May 31, 2023
. so i made some calls. removal of subsidy is official. price of PMS will vary according to region/location. price in lagos is n488 cry cry. it is over n500 in abuja.

the logic of raising prices right now is as follows - from june, ex depot price of pms will also go up. that means that the station dealers [the last link in the chain] will have to raise capital to buy at the new rates or go out of business. the price of a truck of pms will more than double.

it now remains to be seen if we will have true deregulation or status quo will remain

right now only nnpc is officially bringing in product.

here we go
