So why did tinubu fight against it and called it a scam wen Jonathan wanted to remove it for a reduced fuel price as at then?

Because Tinubu, like all Nigerian politicians, wanted to get into power.

It is an old trick most politicians use. Align yourself with a popular agitation/anger, make use of a crisis....and it will pay off long term.

That is why Buhari and Tinubu joined the protests, and made themselves seen. They were playing the long game.

Politics is a game. Winners know how to play it well. Even if it means using Machiavellian methods.

It’s such a shame some of these obedients are still stuck in 2015. We are in 2022 for crying out loud, move on and stop wailing.

If we made mistake in 2012 regarding subsidy, we should learn from our mistake and do the right thing now.

I knew that the occupy Nigeria 2012 was a big scam and a ploy to dissuade Nigerians from seeing the bigger picture. Most Nigerians are very sentimental and tribalistic so it was easy to deceive them into thinking the subsidy removal was to impoverish the masses. It will never be well with the masterminds of the Save Nigeria group protest scam. angry

A mistake we are paying for now.

While the blame for the 2012 mistake ultimately rests with GEJ, in fairness, Tinubu and Buhari should have stepped up and educated their supporters on why subsidy had to go.

Popular decisions are not always the right decisions.

If you don't want people to refer to your evil of the past, dont do the evil.

And has Tinubu apologized for his shameless "ignorance"?

So, you mean someone you people call an "economic juggernaut" doesn't know what fuel subsidy was doing to Nigeria?

besides his 6 years tenure was filled with corruption and insecurities, what nigerians never saw before.....i would say GEJ was actually the root cause of where we are now.

I have come to realise that having university degree does not necessarily equate with wisdom or been immune from the ability to be deceived or gullible. critical and rational thinking skills are lacking in our school systems.

For you to finally come to this realization means there is hope for you. Your father did not train you in vain.

I am tempted to believe that a capacity for critical, rational, objective, logical thinking has to be inborn. Because i notice most people are just incapable of this kind of thinking no matter their level of education or how well they performed at school. And over 90% of the world population (the so called masses) belong to that category; it's not just a Nigerian thing. That's why when i say the masses are more stupid than goat it is not an exaggeration. They are so gullible and easy to manipulate.

The thing is, Nigerians have always been opposed to subsidy removal. Even when in 2005, one of Obasanjo's minsters tried to explain how subsidy was expensive by using the coca-cola analogy (which backfired because it came across as insensitive, which was not his intention)...Nigerians abused him and called him names.

There was no deceit. Occupy Nigeria tapped into anger that was already there.

At the end of the day, GEJ should have called the bluff of the protesters, and removed the subsidy. And we were in a better economic position to do so then

That's politics for you. GEJ was a weak leader, and the opposition even though knew subsidy had to go used it against him.

Now you all know that Tinubu is extremely intelligent. He is the master of the game called Nigerian politics.

His intelligence was also used in splitting PDP into 3 (divide and conquer) just before the elections). Reno once said Tinubu has the face of a slow person, but he is extremely intelligent.

Was he weak or empathetic and understanding?

You are happily praising evil as a Messiah. Which kind of politics is that? GEJ is not weak but a good democrat because he listen to the cry of the people. Now the Power is in his hands. This is just the beginning of his confusion and more disgrace is coming for him. God is not a Man!!

it is very easy to look back now, with the benefit of hindsight and say all who protested in 2011 were wrong and dishonest, but let's just take a moment and reflect on that event.
I still maintain that while removal of fuel subsidy was economically desirable, the way the GEJ administration tried to go about it, was very insensitive. To remove fuel subsidy in the middle of the Christmas celebrations was an immoral action. We all know the expenses people incur at the end of year, how could they think that was a morally right thing to do?
Of course the opposition seized on it and lead the protests, that's what oppositions do. The ultimate responsibility for that sad event lies with GEJ and his advisors.
Just to be clear, I am in no way shape or form an APC supporter, I think they are a cancer on the Nigerian state, but that does not mean we should not tell the truth at all times

I have come to realise that having university degree does not necessarily equate with wisdom or been immune from the ability to be deceived or gullible. critical and rational thinking skills are lacking in our school systems. less than one year after buhari first term I realize it was all part of a well designed fraudulent scam to win the 2015 elections.

Most people are blaming Buhari, BAT, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Pst Bakare, APC, Onochie, Falana but critically forgetting the role Nigerian Labour Congress and its affiliate TUC played in frustrating the subsidy removal.
