Between 1999 and 2007, he worked in MBC International as Deputy General Manager and supervised their IT operational platforms, served in First City Monument Bank Limited as Vice President and in Ecobank Nigeria Limited as Executive Director.

Shonubi also had a stint with Citibank Nigeria Limited as its Head, Treasury Operations (1990-1993).

I do not agree with you - an engineer governing Nigeria’s central bank because he can learn what it takes to perform - that is not the way to go, and I hope another misfit is not appointed substantively on similar sentiments, otherwise we keep repeating mistakes and putting square pegs in round roles.

Policy experts I know have argued that Nigeria needs to have a core economist as the Head of the CBN. We saw the suspension coming from a distance. Even Enefiele too. He can't be sacked by the President but can be suspended until his current term is over. Same thing they did to his predecessor.

The Constitution needs amending though. The president shouldn't be able to suspend the CBN governor without senate approval.

This undue influence is the reason the govt takes money out of the CBN without due process.
