Earlier this morning, distinguished senator Godswill Akpabio was elected president of the senate and after polling over 60 votes as majority in the red chambers.

He was immediately sworn in by the clerk and takes the seat of the senate replacing the former president while Jibrin Barau was also elected as deputy senate president.

Meanwhile, Hon. Tajjudeen Abbas has been elected the speaker of the house. As he overwhelmingly won over his closest rival, Idris Wase.

Idris Wase was seen as a very loyal party man prior to this House of Representatives leadership election.
