Interesting!

By God's grace, it will come down gradually. Consequent upon subsidy removal, an attendant soaring prices of commodities is expected as fuel appears to be the fulcrum of many production and services in Nigeria.

Expected.

It's expected but will relax

Food stuff is still being sold with transport fares under subsidized fuel. Wait till fuel marketers buy new stock and see how much life will cost! You can't cut wounded legs without anasthesia. Tinubu is a buffoon I policy making!

Let us look at what is meant by the concept of fuel subsidy .

Subsidy means charging for a price lower than the cost of your product and the subsidy is the difference between the true price and the subsidized price you choose to charge.

In Nigeria's case we can work out our price of litre fuel as follows:

Cost of extraction of oil from our land
Cost of transportation of oil to refineries
cost of transport of fuel from refineries to filling stations
Other related overheads .
This can be calculated, let us assume the price for Nigeria to deliver fuel to filling stations is something like $0.40 per litre for fuel which is about N170 / litre.

The fraud is that is that if instead of charging Nigerians the cost of production and delivery of fuel, they are claiming that Nigeria is subsidizing the price of fuel if we do not pay the price that a non oil producer nation would import fuel for. So let us assume the price of non oil producer without refining capacity of importing fuel is $0.70 (N350), the subsidy proponents are then saying we are subsidizing fuel by charging the $0.40 it cost us to land fuel at filling stations.

So that is the fraud .

No surprise there. In a couple of months, maybe more than a year, we'll begin to see significant changes.
How would that change come? By what policies exactly?
That's why church make it big here. Because in church, you are told to just hope and pray that it will soon be alright. And folks without work and long term strategic planning would go and be waiting for things to be alright in the by and by.

It’s a shame that despite how many years of suffering many Nigerians are still blind to this political games.
Somebody like Tinubu is doing what he is doing today not because he cares about you people but because he wants to use these small small signing of electricity, student loans and the likes to make you think that Peter Obi case in court is silly and no longer worth it, hence the reason why the blind people amongst you are quick to say that Peter Obi should forget about the case and let Tinubu rule. It's a political strategy
I am not a fan of Obi or anyone else but what I know is that, it doesn’t matter how good your plans are for Nigeria, if the process that got you into power is unclean then you do not deserve that position.
The world saw the bullshit Tinubu did to gain power.

If Obi wins the case tomorrow Tinubu will have to leave, it doesn’t matter whether he had good plans or not.
A man who has good plans for a nation will never force his way or cheat his way to that position of power.
For Tinubu, it was never about you, it was always about him and his greedy goals that is the reason he kept his hand in the Lagos government over the years. For him it was always about control and be the head.

Everything he has done so far are very simple things that Buhari could have signed and done but why didn't that happen? Because APC has an agenda. They create problems and then Tinubu wants to be the Messiah by bringing solutions to the same problems they created.

I have always asked, the money agberos collect in Lagos that runs into billions, what does that money do in Lagos state?
Over the years Yoruba people keep praising Tinubu for the small achievements of the likes of Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo olu. You are blind and Ignorant and it’s a shame that you think an Igbo man is your enemy when your enemy is the person you call your godfather, the one you worship foolishly.

Only God can save you people.

If you can't read between the lines of Nigerian politics, you will never be able to understand anything.

This is what you get inflicting people-unfriendly policies without solid plans.

Tinubu’s policies are utterly reckless. Mumu Nigerians hail textbook policies that don’t apply directly. The negative impacts are not short term either cos there are no plans to cushion them.

With limited supply of FX, floating the exchange rate means banks and speculators will determine the rates while CBN plays catch up. I project USD will hit 1000 naira in one month.

Fuel subsidy removal only frees up money for looting by the political vultures. Tinubu cannot stop the criminals that supported him to power. If in doubt, point me to the savings from diesel and kerosene subsidy stoppage. Besides no plans to manage accompanying inflation.

As for stopping the funding for tertiary institutions and instituting student loans, it only means the poor cannot access tertiary education again. Forget the loan, the bureaucratic bottlenecks will ensure the average youth cannot access i

Out of point

This is where the good governance that I have constantly mentioned that comes together with reforms to make for meaningful progress kicks in. Reforms are tough no doubt but the courage to do them must be supported with the intellect to direct them effectively.

There are four primary ingredients of success across board. Effort, skill, risk and time management. They have done the risk, now the dexterity, the skill to manage the economy is what is critical now and inflation is the new, primary challenge. It is a challenge yardstick all economic managers are measured by round the world at the moment for various reasons from wars to the environment to reforms as in Nigeria's case.

The Tinubu led government must make haste the deliberate fight against the scourge of inflation to catch up to its devastating effects as it spreads from the epicentre of reforms, namely petroleum prices and transport and naira devaluation and imports and before it hits the durable goods sector and impacts productivity.

We need policy statements now.

The annual inflation rate in Nigeria rose for the fourth month to a near 18-year high of 22.41% in May 2023, up from 22.22% in the prior month and matching market estimates. Prices of food, which is the most relevant in the CPI basket, continued to accelerate to 24.82% in May, after jumping by 24.61% in April, mainly on account of vegetables, oils, bread, fruits, meat and tubers. The annual core inflation rate, which excludes farm produce, was 20.06% in May, easing from a record high of 20.14% in the prior month. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 1.94% in May, the most in seven years, up from a 1.91% rise in April.
