But if you agree that PMB's policies were not good, then why do you disagree with BAT changing them even if its just to assuage the mood of the people?

In any case, I'm not so sure that it is true that BAT's moves have been populist. Removing fuel subsidies, which is the main move he's made, has not been populist at all, since the masses are most inconvenienced by the short term effects.

Harmonizing the exchange regimes is not populist either since to the common man there's really no difference between the new harmonized rates and the old parallel market rate that was accessible to the public.

These policies, when taken together will ensure that fuel prices will certainly stay up and there will be some increase in other associated costs such as food and transportation.

So are these policies populist in real terms?
No, I did not disagree with the policy of ending subsidy. My complain remains that it should have been allowed to take effect in 2014. By now, Nigerians would have been enjoying the benefits, if the looting politicians would ever allow.

Nigerians, including BAT seem to have been bamboozled in 2014, making them protest and absolutely rejecting the removal. Having suffered the effects in the last eight years, including embezzlements (which I always emphasize), the same BAT, having felt the mood of the people, reverted to it.

Next, the multiplier effect of subsidy removal is already felt, as you can see, with the cost of living. For me, we should expect more increases, with the naira valued presently at 664 and fuel importers who get their forex from the banks, expected to spend more naira for imports. Expect the price of fuel to increase, until the refineries are able to work.

May I ask why the previous regime, part of which BAT was, led Nigeria to such terrible state?

Talks like this should come from the entire populace especially the masses, and not one lunatic, unrepentant criminal ranting in order to have a soft landing.

BAT has always supported subsidy removal - even in 2011 when they were harassing Jonathan, he clearly said at that time, that fuel subsidy has to go but the conditions were not ripe for it. Now, that to me indicts his previous pro-subsidy stance as being populist whereas the current anti-subsidy stance is a genuine policy he has always believed in.

But if we're fair, was BAT part of Buhari's regime? Does merely belonging to the same party imply a shared responsibility when you have no control over the man in the seat?

Don't you think this was clearly demonstrated in the naira redesign episode which Tinubu vehemently opposed?

@LesbianBoy
If miraculously peter obi wins in court, you will see how the country will turn around. You will see real change.

@me
Peter obi? Hahaha....look my friend I'm an Ibo but well trained and exposed. Nigeria is too complex politically, socially and economically for Obi to handle today. He might come in later.

Obi will take time to learn. Tinubu is ready. Lagos is mini-nigeria. Nigerians believe him because he has done it before. He has his team ready because he has tested and successfully used them before.

If he has a problem in zamfara, Bornu, rivers, sokoto, abia etc he has ready associates that he can use.

Obi hasn't got any of these. The corporate world both nationally and internationally believe him because of his past achievement.

No cabal can control him. Infact he's the cabal himself. He's politician inside out. He's already very rich. I will be surprised if he fails.

This is the first time that I'm replying anybody about tinubu. Obi is riding on the wave of the frustration of the youths and tribal sentiment. He is good in his own right. But as at today he cannot match the quality of political leadership of tinubu. He's at the same level with fashola, osibanjo, sanwo-olu, elrufai.

How are his policies different from GEJ’s?

When PMB became the Nigerian head of state in Dec 31, 1985, his government introduced policies that were quite harsh on Nigerians. IBB and Sani Abacha removed him from office and quickly introduced populist policies. Nigerians jumped when IBB asked Nigerians their opinion about either an IMF loan or what was called structural adjustment program. Nigerians by preferred SAP and the rest became history. IBB systematically reduced this country to its knees with his bad policies.

One of his policies the was the then second tier foreign exchange market in September 1986. By this policy the naira was devalued and it became an issue up till this day.

The same popular policies are what we see today with fuel and foreign exchange.

Nigerians are in for a very long ride until they choose to elect leaders who they can hold accountable. Our leaders travel to Europe, Asia, USA and see how developed their societies are. They embezzle public funds in Nigeria and take such funds abroad to enjoy decent societies. Blind Nigerians who do not know how societies work support them to continue the embezzlement. Until Nigerians wake up from their slumber, wahala go remain.
Oil dey your head. From all indication you are truly educated.
Whoever is seeing Tinubu as a thoughtful leader from his single action of this harsh subsidy removal is tribalistically blind.

Subsidy is a fraud but Tinubu came to professionalize it. How much was initially being paid as subsidy and how much is being added after removal, nobody is asking questions just because the media parrots are the one in charge now.

The masses are in partial lockdown, people cannot move, if nothing is done, I m sure Tinubu will run out of this country when nature set in- that is, people will be forced to naturally comes out to ask questions.

Tinubu and his band of thieves are only after one thing which is the national treasury , nothing more.

Brainless ones should ask themselves why Tinubu fought Jonathan's regime rather than support the administration if he has the interest of Nigeria at heart.
Why did he fight subsidy removal in 2012 when he knew it was the best for Nigeria?

A patriotic citizen will support any policy of Government which will better her economy but Tinubu and his band of thieves in power today elected to oppose a good policy.
Tinubu is a wolf in sheep's clothing!

He is currently decieving the brainless ones with unlawful vindictive suspensions, removals and haphazard monetary policies and they are cheering him on just like they did in 2012.

My happiness is that the convicted criminal drug baron parading as president will soon be sacked going by the proceedings of the tribunal.

I was actually enjoying ur dialogue with the guy u quoted till u started deviating n lacing ur statements with sentiments.
Gej didn't do nothing about subsidy till 2014, Tinubu vehemently went against him with his goons cos he knew he could leverage on it to get himself in a position to get power. I don't Tinubu but I know he's intelligent. It takes intelligence, cunning and smartness to be a successful drug dealer and bad ass politician. I'm a very open minded person and I learn even from my enemies and opponents. Tinubu knew very well that GEJ move to remove the subsidy will benefit the people in the long term and the effect is that PDP 'll remain in power if that should happen. It was a selfish move from Tinubu and you saying Tinubu was "merely" a party member is the most foolish statement any reasonable adult Nigerian 'll ever make. On what stance was the "Emi lokan" if he was just merely affiliated to Buhari through party membership. There 'll be no APC without Tinubu. It was his influence that destabilized PDP. Atiku is a very good friend of Tinubu who also helped in destroying PDP from within. Atiku with his goons only went back to PDP when they saw Tinubu intentions albeit too late. BAT enthroned Buhari which was what solidified his influence beyond Lagos.
Him coming back to remove fuel subsidy he fought against simply tells you the kind of person he really is. He's not really done anything worthy of praise yet. I wonder if Nigerians are educated at all sometimes. Subsidy n naira devaluation is actually detrimental to the purchasing power of Naira. And finally what provision did Tinubu make to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal in an even more harsh economic condition than it was in 2014. I wish Nigerians can just drop their emotions aside and embrace logic. Support Tinubu, it is not a crime but u must be very open minded n logical abt it. I support PO and very open minded abt it. No adult should devote blind loyalty to a politician as they all have a common interest which is power. I'm very political myself so I understand how this thing works. Tinubu is a very brilliant politician and makes power moves which I admire much but u must understand that to attain such level you 'll sacrifice morals. Look at the Power move Akpabio made to become a senate president. He knew when to compromise, stayed loyal to Tinubu who he knew he can't go Toe to Toe with by stepping down for him n compare him with Osinbajo who killed his political career by going against Tinubu. A good power player knows never to outshine his master.
PDP had every chance to take power back but selfishness of Atiku and Woke bottled it. Atiku has no business contesting in the first place and Wike felt it should be him and not Peter Obi. If you look within PDP they've produced Presidents from both SW and SS so it was normal to go for SE which would have boosted their chances more, it didn't work, now I feel they could have gone for Atiku again with PO as vice since they didn't like the Idea of Wike being their flag bearer. I also wish PO had compromised by agreeing to be VP but with condition attached that he 'll take over as president eventually. PDP and PO needed each other to win. Look at what Tinubu also did, he went for a Muslim VP. Do u want to tell me he doesn't know that it is not morally right considering the religious climate of Nigeria? This is where I admire him even more, it's all abt making a call for a greater good. You have to know that there's a difference between what's right for you n what's good for you. Instead of y'all learning from this old men y'all choose to fight yourselves over nothing.
I learn from them and 'll make the right compromise to be with them and get closer to power myself. That's how you become leader of tomorrow not all this nonsense y'all do on social media. PO getting that seat back from Tinubu in a country like Nigeria is close to impossible. I know this. This is an extremely corrupt country n it's on this foundation this country thrives.

First of all you need to learn proper forum etiquette. Quoting someone with that huge wall of text, no paragraphs, not to mention being rude in your introductory paragraphs is quite off-putting.

I didn't read through everything you wrote but from all I can see there you have simply buttressed the point I was making.

Essentially, Tinubu's policies are not populist, since they will bring initial hardship for the masses. That's what I was saying. Secondly that when he opposed GEJ's subsidy removal, he was not being genuine to his own policy positions, but was appealing to populist sentiment.

I also mentioned that Tinubu was not a part of the last regime, I did not say he had no relationship with it. I said he had no control of Buhari's decisions.

Cheers.

Subsidy removal was never populist at any point and Tinubu wasn't the first person to remove subsidy so you thinking it's worthy of praise or not populist according to you is weak.
Tinubu being a member but not part of the last regime is also a farce. He's a part by proxy, he had his own people there, Osinbajo being the most prominent.

Nobody is against Tinubu removing fuel subsidy, we are against him implementing the same policy he fought against. I blame GEJ for being feeble cos normally all of those selfish individuals that invited d people into that protest were supposed to be arrested on the ground of insurrection.
Tinubu also has a case of dealing/affiliation with illicit drug in which he was made to forfeit $400k+ to a law suit, so how's he done anything wrong for calling him a drug baron.
You even went as far as calling a stranger u don't know on social media a bloody idiot. It shows how immature you're as a person.
