AntiMarxist and Raskimonojendor, thanks for all the expose. My eyes don really open.
I thought this people being called cannibals was mere bants.

But Achebe never mentioned this practice in his books. Though I recall where Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart drank palm wine from a human skull. That part always struck me as odd especially for a people he was trying to paint as possessing native intelligence whose way of life was ruined by the white man.

Raskimonojendor:
Wars were fought just as in the Boer wars, or every other important war the British were fighting in a bid to colonize rich lands.. E.g. the English vs Ijebu or the English vs Egba.

The British did not have your time until later. There were bigger fishes to fry. grin
Olodo, we are talking about slave trade not colonization. As for wars with colonial Invaders, Aro/Anglo war was the toughest and Ekumeku war the longest. Yorubaland was easily overrun

This is hate speech. Are you trying to say the Igbo tribe of Nigeria are weed?

Even if you’re trying to comeback with the “weed” response, e no too work.

By the way, is it true Asari ancestors sold the Ibos as slave? I would assume Asari Dokubo is drunk for making that assertion.
I actually read about something similar in a critique of the British double standards in colonial Nigeria many years ago. That by the time the Brits came, Hausas were already in the process of toppling their fulani overlords. The Brits actually helped the fulani in subduing the Hausas. In the south, however, opposite was the case. The Ijaws were colonizing the ibbos, and the Brits actually supported the ibbos by toppling the ijaws.

Ogene001:
Benin kingdom = Benin city
This is different from Benin Empire which included other Edoid tribes, yorubas, igbos
Very False.

Bini, Benin, etc were all coined words by the Portuguese.

More accurately and historically, they were the Edos (Arrioba Edos), and the Kingdom -Igodomigodo. All the same people.

Benin City, the present capital of Edo State was the Center of the Benin Kingdom where the Oba's Palace was located and still is located. Today, due to creation of States eg Delta State, it is now located in Edo South.

The geographical area we call Benin City today was the capital of the ancient Benin Kingdom.

Not easily overrun, but the Obas applied wisdom in saving their people's life, instead of being killed in large numbers. The superior British fire power had naval fleets and were recruiting all across West Africa to fight wars with the yorubas (mainly Lagos, Egba, Ijebu) who were close to the coast. At that time, they (British) had more than half of the world under its control. Pointless trying to fight them in a prolonged war. The Aro war was also a fight for mostly end to slavery.

What this mongrel said was very wrong. Even if it actually happened, it should be confined to the dustbin of primitive history of African tribes. Having said that, it is hilarious how ibbos cannot take half of what they give:
Ibbo: (slaps a guy)
Guy: (hits the ibbo on the head with a sledgehammer)
Ibbo: (crying) boo hoo why did you hit me?! What did I do to you?!

Kanu was calling Fulanis cows and all sorts of names, and his people were egging him on. This is this guy just giving them a taste of their medicine.

And who told you any Igboman gives a fvck about Asari's rantings? Is it not yorubas that are gloating over it? So because ijaws live close to the sea and people brought slave to the port, ijaws now sold Igbos?

Asari is no different from MNK. Infact, he was the arrow head championing Biafra liberation. But it's so disheartening that the Nigerian security will pay deaf ears to these brazen bigoted utterances. Kanu is incarcerated while Asari walks free. This is nepotism of the highest order. But who do we blame? We blame the Igbo politicians who are scared to speak for her people. Until they start condemning these oppressors, the derogation will go on and on. Igbos are helpless in the hands of Nigerian govt

Igbo won't respond to thrash because we are busy making money. Kanu fought for his people, Asari is fighting for his pocket.
This is what I usually tell those dunce Yoruba liberals, our blodas fear force, they are just like the herdsmen, civility is alien to them. When they give you and you give them back twice , they run back to their shell sobbing but if you fail to reciprocate their gesture, they come back and afflict you more damage continuously.

None of them has the balls to tackle Asari back but instead managed to drag yorubas into it because they know yorubas are liberal. Fellow yorubas!! When dealing with savages and subhumans, liberalism should be left out of the agenda.

Double standard is when you vilify and incarcerate MNK while Asari walks freely even after wielding guns on camera, which MNK never did!
