Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti has ordered the immediate suspension of the Head of Service of the state, Mr. Onyi Nwamah, ABN TV reports.

This according to the Governor follows the inauguration of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the Recovery of Properties and Funds belonging to Abia State Government.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kazie Uko in a statement Thursday night made available to ABN TV, said the state's chief executive also ordered the suspension of all Permanent Secretaries in the State civil service.

The Governor also approved the appointment of Lady Joy Maduka, Director, Ministry of Education, as Acting Head of Service (HOS).

Two Permanent Secretaries spared by the suspension include, John Pedro Iroakazi who is the Clerk of the House of Assembly and Mrs. U. G. Uche Ikonne who is the Solicitor General of the state.

How can you promote a Director to become the Acting Head of Service when there are 2 Permanent Secretaries that are her seniors. This is against civil service rule except Abia is operating a different law to the remaining 35 states.

So now party affiliation is the basis to deny civil servants their promotions? Your excuse is watery and if those people initiate a case at the Industrial court they will win.
You can’t appoint a Director as HOS when there are 2 Permanent Secretaries ahead of her.

They are career civil servants, they got to those posts by merit and number of years they have put into the civil service.
