we need to start investing in turning ebonyi state into a world class agriculture hub. There is big money there it terms of agriculture. Anyone who starts a farm there and exports food will CASH out
Honestly, Ebonyi is literally an agricultural giant waiting to be tapped.

Imagine having large farms everywhere with Agro-processing facilities. We just need visionary leadership to accomplish that goal for Ebonyi.

Wow, Onitsha is projected to surpass both Kano and Ibadan by 2040 and be close to Lagos!

Now is time to improve on infrastructure!
Onitsha has already surpassed Kano and Ibadan. Onitsha Urban metro is 7million. Kano 4million, Ibadan 3million. What the projection is saying is that Onitsha will cross 10m while Kano and Ibadan will remain below 10m by 2040

According to Demographia, Onitsha has overtaken Lagos as the largest urban area by landmass after Peter Obi's interconnecting rural roads united numerous towns into a huge urban cornubation stretching from Onitsha to Ekulobia. With more opening of the hinterlands and massive return through the invest home mantra, plus Ronu madness in Lagos, it's very sure that Onitsha metro will overtake Lagos in population by 2040 according to Mackenzie
People underate Nsukka growth but believe me, the town is fast growing. Just like nnewi did, Nsukka is been grown by the natives.

were will you farm, or you will waste all your land, building usless houses for rats and cockroach. Be wise, scattering houses without land management will lead to Hunger
If you check the emerging population zone it's within Anambra central, and Anambra South down to Imo. Anambra North senatorial zone is sparsely populated with vast Arable land. Coscharis has large rice farm at Anaku and Rice processing factory at Igbariam. There is more than enough land to farm. Even if there is none, we will export manufactured goods and import food and still have plenty change just like Japan

Ebonyi state alone can feed the whole south east with mechanized agriculture and even export to other parts of Nigeria.

Israel in the desert is able to grow surplus food and export to other countries.
is Israel wasting its scarce land like the way igbos are wasting theirs, i don't need to argue with you, igbos should concentrate on building factories not building houses that they hardly stay in especially in remote villages.

Those village houses are in Forest zones not suitable for cultivation. Most communities in Arable land regions live in compact and nucleated settlements similar to yorubas and Edo

What we need:

Dualization of all major roads
Gas pipeline to industrial areas
Bus rapid system
Intracity rail
Functioning river port.

These key infrastructures will unlock so much wealth.
Yeah.. That Dualization of the major roads is the easiest and cheapest to achieve. And we must start now to do that..

If we can move headlong and develop our river ports and inland Waterways, there will not be any advantage Abuja or Lagos will have over onitsha. Thanks bro for the detailed explanation, Ekekwe is highly celebral when it comes to information like this.

The high cost of doing business in Lagos, the potentiality of the city to become xenophobic will be the good driving force to explore other options
Can't you guys just shut up and develop your region without mentioning Lagos??

It seems your planned development is hinged on the downfall of Lagos, not the development of the economy and infrastructure of your region to improve the wellbeing of your people.

Lagos killed yorubaland. Igbos won't allow that in Igboland
Look at what is left of yorubaland. You better start your own invest home now

The 3000 islands are uninhabited because they are uninhabitable in the first place due to volcanoes, yet they are included in the total landmass. In fact, the landmass of Japan continue to increase due to these volcanoes. The real Japan is very small for a whooping 125 million population, they import almost all their food. Meanwhile SE is not doing badly in economizing land with their multistorey blocks of flat, one plot containing 10 - 14 flats

this one thing about we igbos, we always think we know all, tell when last there is a major volcano in Japan, besides volcano ash make land to be very fertile, those islands are protected areas for the future generations.talk what you have knowledge of, scattering houses from Onitsha to owerri is pure stupidity, no sane society can do that, after wasting your land, you will then depend on the north and south west to feed you, you will become a toy in their hand.

New research by McKenzie projects Onitsha as one of the mega cities in the Africa and the world
By 2040. This study was done by outside organization. Not by people in Nigeria, so no need for tribal bias.

If you study the map Onitsha population is projected to rival that of Lagos and far surpass Kano.
It's not Onitsha per say but an emerging megacity stretching from Asaba to Owerri which is already the biggest urban area in Nigeria presently with conglomerate twice the size of Lagos and 8 times the size of Port Harcourt. I wish Southeast and Asaba could plan well for this emerging megalopolis of over 30 million.

You are very correct. It’s the Onitsha metropolitan area which encompasses surrounding cities. They will merge with continuous development within the next two decades.

Yes, it's called Onitsha metro for convenience, it covers many states that's why it's population is larger than Anambra state population

Actually the heart of the conglomerate is around Nnewi to Nnobi not Onitsha. Most of the area were under Onitsha province in the past but Onitsha is far left while Nnewi is central and Owerri far South.

No de yarn dust my brother, Onitsha to Owerri having dense population is equivalent to greater Tokyo, the population concentration will free more lands for cultivation elsewhere

It's not about position but economic relevance. Onitsha remain the nucleus of the conglomerate and deserve to go by that name

Ordinarily, Onitsha should be a federal gov’t project like Lagos was and Abuja is….but that’s a story for another day!

The metropolis needs at least $1 billion for roads alone! And we haven’t even talked of sanitation, water supply, electricity, and city police!

Go and study the history of Japan. They never had any city till 19th century. Tokyo is made of different scattered towns that merged. Tokyo is notorious as the most unplanned city in the world. Check Tokyo on Google Earth, the streets and roads have no alignment all scattered which means they were already populated villages before development entered
See Kawasaki, a popular city in Japan, see how it has become part of greater Tokyo. All of them were different independent town that spread and scattered and finally merged together
