It is not at all usuless if the promotion is based on merit...go to US you will find as many generals as possible in their army too. The impunity and nepotism in such promotion are what we need to fight against. Buhari intentionally promoted his northern counterpart in order to make it hard for Southerners to emerge the head of the army and u are saying such nepotic act should not be reversed. It should unless we want the nation divided.
Also, it is African mentality to deny people their right...many students were being delayed from graduating because lecturers do not desire to have many graduates or doctors in town; what a wickedness.

The military needs to review how their personnel's gets promoted.
You can't force the President to work with people he does not have confidence in to deliver.

It is an embarrasement in the first place to have so many major generals yet insecurity pervades the land. Their impact is not felt hence the need for them to go. Most of them were recruited based on their religion and ethnicity😃😃😃 The north is about to be given a dose of their own medicine.

While I am personally not an ally of Tinubu, I however disagree that his decision was based on selecting someone from his tribe. First the Chief of defence staff and some other junior chiefs are not Yoruba. Secondly, there is no way you wont have a competent Yoruba among the 300 retiring senior officers, it is simply not possible. So if appointing Yoruba man was his aim, he wouldn't have to go so down. While only Tinubu can explain his rationale I think we need to stop reading ethnic colouration into everything, we should be more objective in our analysis. Myopic, tribalistic tendencies seem to reside in most Nigerians and the leaders are just archetype of who majority of us are.

Wrong assertion, I believe there are dozens of their kind, who understand the job, and have been preparing to take on this role. Very myopic topic, not well thought through.

When military institutions train officer, they train them in dozens, and in military institution there are different departments, and in each department you have dozens or hundreds of soldiers with same skill set and expertise, so if anyone is no more or retires, there are people to take over. The way a military is built, it's mandatory in military creed to take note of succession(having replacements), due to the risky nature of the military. His assertion that there are no ready replacements is myopic, secondly most of the soldiers that were retired were not extraordinary, yes they did their best, but we need better, so maybe these changes will reduce the challenges faced by the military, challenges caused by human element.

The changes will not affect the operational performance of the military, because the military has capable replacements, fresh blood, who have been training all their lives for this.

Clueless and Nepotistic Buhari flooded the Nigeria Army with so many half baked General's.
They are mere Generals by rank, but nothing to show for it.
You need to see the kind of drunkard pot belly some of this General's have.
You can't compare them to the General's of the 1970's and 80's. With the likes of Joshua Dongoyaro, John Shagaya, Domkat Bali, Sani Abacha just to mention a few.
They are bunch of Mami market General's, a huge waste to the Nation's resources.

When several military men died in an aircrash sometimes ago in the days of IBB...did the military colapse ? Despite the terrible loss,we survived. .Heaven won't fall as the Generals are returning back home in full retirement .

It's always bemusing but sad to see how these useless Nigerian military deadwood can overrate their value. Incompetent and worthless so-called generals with zero war experience, zero operational knowledge and zero technical capabilities..... Humpty dumbties who are only concerned with opportunities to make illicit money and indulge in hedonistic lifestyles.

Same with the lower ranks and all the rest who like to think they're doing everyone else a favour by being in the armed forces, when all they know is form warrior on harmless/unarmed soft targets but try their best to avoid real combat situations. Stupid people.
