OfoIgbo:

The question you should be asking is how come there are not enough Yorubas he could have chosen from, among the 300 very senior officers to be retired?

When Buhari came, he got rid of many southern officers especially Igbos.

Obviously it will seem that Buhari's purge resulted in just northern military officers advancing to those very senior levels.

Tinubu is just mirroring Buhari. They are political allies.
Is this how we will make progress as a country?

300 major generals for what? The promotion process needs to be restructured then. That is even too much expense for Nigeria. They need to reduce that number to about 37 for each state.

The process starts from NDA recruitment. Each course have at least 200 mates. How will you promote just one to a major general and leave others because of state equality when all are qualified as coursemates? Na trouble you de brew naa

I saw the interview. He also said it was wrong to have 100 Major Generals in the 1st place, the military is too top heavy, that many of them don’t come to work and nobody notices. He also said that in any graduating set of officers anywhere in the world, only about 4% make it to the top ranks but in Nigeria in any graduating set about 43% become major generals….and that it should not be so. That’s why there are major generals and no one knows what they do. He also said a major general is not someone you come across every day but in Nigeria, they are all over the place effectively saying we have devalued the rank of major general.

It's amazing how an interview can be misinterpreted.

I watched the interview on Friday, the guy's beef was that the armed forces promotion system has been bastardised to the extent that we have ended up with over 300 major generals which he said was simply too many.

He was not opposed to the President reducing the number by over 100. His beef was that the country shouldn't be having over 300 major generals anyway. He also said he was not aware of any other country in the world with over 300 major generals.

He was lamenting that no other country would retire over one hundred major generals because they would simply not have that many major generals to retire in the first place.

How this last comment has been twisted in OP's headline to suggest that the man was alarmed by the prospect of their retirement is amazing lol.

With the Northern lopsided appointments Buhari made

They have got to go. Tinubu appointed Nuhu Ribadu and the military chiefs said they could not work with him as NSA, trying to force Tinubu to appoint a general instead. So President showed them who is commander in chief! grin

You are mistaken!
The SW controls the media.
Having said that, SW has a massive social media presence and are very active on Twitter… a lot of dissenting voices in the SW as well.
The Arewa social media presence is minimal- that’s why the Buhari government suffered bad publicity. His projects were underreported and flaws over reported.
Too many misinformation from the Southern media and SM influencers with few Arewa fingers to fight back.
Southern narratives eventually prevailed.

So far from it, the SW is currently the most active voice on Twitter.
The Obidients have reduced their volume.

But I will also like you to give us names of SE senior officers Buhari made the head of any of our military arms or security agencies.
