I can never support this
It would even make sense if Europe was paying for the pipeline
There is no knowledge transfer agreement.
Even the pipes used are imported from Europe
Guess what those pipes are made with imported gas
They win all the time like Baba Ijebu

We should focus on selling gas in Naira in Nigeria and to our neighbours

How long will it be and how many years is expected to take to finish its construction? It might shock you but I won't be surprised if the Russian gas pipelines to Europe have a much greater distance considering the outrageous size of Russia.

Algeria has gas, so why would Algeria allow Nigeria to compete with it on its own land ?
This project looks stupid, who would even build the pipelines ? China ? Why would China do that? The pipelines are built to sideline Russia which is China's biggest ally.

We really need to make a lot of USD from gas sales to stabilise the volatile naira.

Russia is not Nigeria, it's cities are connected with well functioning pipelines. So when Russia builds pipelines to Germany, it doesn't need to build them right from the point of extraction, rather it builds them from the nearest town to Germany.

No it is not

One will create jobs and a better life for our people
The other will make us slaves and create loot for a few people

The richest countries in the world are ranked in direct correlation to energy use.
We will never prosper from selling energy
The last 60 years should have taught us that
We can use our gas to make enough fertiliser for the whole of Africa

It is not possible for a country like Nigeria to prosper alone all the Africans at Libya heading for Europe will come to Nigeria if we prosper

Our energy should be piped to West Africa and no where else to make energy intensive products that Africa imports
Fertiliser
Glass
Cement
Paper
Steel

Imagine Africa crippled because of Ukraine war

Why are we in Africa still importing fertiliser

If Nigeria were to transform to a one product ,country namely fertiliser we will be rich and Our neighbours too

Thank you so much for being knowledgeable and having foresight.

So we have no money build and repair our refineries but we have money to build pipelines for the racist globalists enslavers to pump our oil to their countries.
Nigeria is still enslaved our leaders are just the house slaves for the racist caucasian globalists, who installed them to assist them exploit us.

Kewtt:

See you. Professors and medical doctors are not finding it easy in this economy. E go soon touch you
So because professors and medical doctors aren't finding it easy in Nigeria's current economy, so therefore nothing should be done to improve Nigeria's economy because according to your logic, "it wouldn't benefit the ordinary man"?.... Sometimes if you don't have a clear understanding of a topic, the honourable thing to do is to either ask or just sit back and listen/read through comments, and perhaps you could learn a thing or 2.

Nigeria currently flares (burns away) up to 10 billion scf of natural gas monthly which roughly translates to $25 million lost monthly. Why do we flare the gas? Because we dont have the necessary infrastructure (pipelines) to either use the gas locally or sell it internationally. Nigeria also has over 200 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves just lying in the ground untapped, while the economy suffers.

In summary, many pipelines (and other infrastructure) need to be built to convert the wasted and fallowing gas to money. If Nigeria earns more money/forex, the economy improves. If the economy improves, it benefits everybody, including that "ordinary man" you talked about.

The reason why it is sad is because of the region that would benefit more is the most neglected region...that is south east.

That is why they are not happy.

That is the region with huge gas reserve in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

Interesting! We get all manner of diverse opinions on these public forums!

Firstly, can you please explain how Nigeria selling its gas to Europe to earn much needed forex revenue translates to 'enslaving Nigeria'?... While you're at it, are you suggesting that countries like Russia who sell gas to Europe are foolish slaves?

There are many ways to kill a rat. Whether Nigeria sells its gas internationally for forex revenue or whether we utilise it locally, both will result in an improvement in our economy. But the big question is, what is practical and more easily achievable for Nigeria under the current circumstances?

No doubts, if we can use the gas locally, it becomes more beneficial for our economy; but are you aware we need to first crawl before we walk?

1. Is Nigeria an industrialised nation?... NO, not yet!
2. Does Nigeria have the required infrastructure to locally utilise over 200+ trillion cubic feet of gas? Absolutely NO! --- even the US or China can't use up all that gas
3. Can Nigeria develop the necessary local infrastructure to utilise it's massive gas reserves overnight? NO!
4. Are you aware that money would be required to develop the local infrastructure?
5. Where would the money come from if we keep burning away the gas instead of selling it for now?

In summary, Nigeria has more than enough gas for local use and for export. At the moment, we dont have the infrastructure to utilise the gas locally, and it will take time and money to develop this infrastructure. So how is it a problem if Nigeria starts by exporting its gas?

Pipe it across which country? Which infrastructure does your country currently have that can utilise 200+ trillion cubic feet of gas? (even the US or China dont use that much gas). There's more than enough gas reserves in Nigeria for both local use and for export. If we dont have the local infrastructure to use the gas yet, there's nothing wrong with developing infrastructure to easily sell the gas internationally (where there's a high demand for it) to raise revenue, which in turn can be used to develop the local infrastructure.

Meanwhile what has Lagos got to do with what I just explained? What's your point?

Algeria exports gas to Europe, but the demand of gas is far more than Algeria can meet. Algeria would be very happy to receive Nigerian gas for onward export to Europe. It's good business!

Much needed forex? Please explain why forex is much needed . Needed for what ?
To buy what they make with our gas?
We spend nearly 3 billion USD importing plastics
Is that rational? Guess what our biggest imports are ? Petrol
How much exactly. Do you project we can earn

Please explain why the Naira cannot belong to that class of phenomena known as. FOREX
Please explain why if we have more than enough gas MOST Nigerians dont cook with gas
Please explain why other countries are not scrambling for NAIRA to buy our plastic, cement, fertiliser petrol etc
Explain why you have such low expectations of Nigeria

Do you know how many years of gas we have or you just have the nebulous notion of "more than enough"

you are out of your intellectual depth here

You operate by assumption not thinking

My thing is simple

Let us satisfy our own need first
We should use our gas to make those things they make in Germany that we import
Paper,glass,industrial chemicals,metals,plastics
To that extent we must recognise they are strategic competitors not allies
They do not transfer knowledge because They are smart
We should see gas as a strategic commodity not something to be exchanged for so called FOREX

Which you do not understand is their only has value because they are productive and our Naira will never have meaning if we are not courageous enough to sell whatever we sell in Naira
We do not need forex
That is an illusion
What we need is industrialisation
