mrvitalis:You seem like someone who enjoys learning thru quarrels&intence arguments. Did u conduct the population census? So by mere looking at the number of people you pass thru daily. Or people in your compound, u were able to know the population of the country and even Lagos?? U may just be maturely daft, with all due respect. |

There were two German countries in 1980s, West and East Germany respectively, this write up didn't clarify the one her population compared with Nigeria in that year. |

POPULATION IS A BIG FACTOR IN DEVELOPMENT; LET NO ONE DECIVIE YOU. Despite infrastructurel development in China and huge funds in the hands of the Chinese govt, there are still tens of millions of poor people in rural China. An average man in smaller Luxembourg lives a more quality life than an average Chinese person despite the fact that the Chinese govt has over 200x more money than Luxembourg. Lesser population helps in bringing development than even "good governance" Take for example; India is the largest democracy in the world with the population of 1.4 billion. The media rates the govt in India as excellent. While govts in countries like Saudi Arabia or Qatar with the population of 2.6m and 35m respectfully are seen as autocratic or totalitarian regimes with no election and having one family ruling for decades. Yet the average lives of a Saudi and Qatari citizens in a supposedly bad governance are better-off than a average Indians in a democratic leadership. A family of 4 with total monthly income of 250k in Nigeria will live more quality life than a family of 10 with an income of 400k regardless who is leading the family. The international standard of electricity generation is 1000megawatt for 1million people. Nigeria currently needs 200k MW for her 200m+ population while she is currently having 7000mw. No good governance or leadership in Nigeria will get you 200mw in 20 yrs. It's not even feasible. But a smaller country like Benin republic with 13m only needs 13k mw or less for steady power supply thats why they are having it. |

mrvitalis:That’s true, our life expectancy and infant mortality rate even it out. With our flawed census, where Itsekiri jumped from 34,000 to a hundred thousand in less than 12 years. In 1952 they were 34,000, just eleven years down the line, (in 1963)they ‘grew’ to 100,000 |

Population is not our problem, our problem is the huge chunk of our population are unproductive, unskilled and lazy. A country with huge productive population is a country with greatness asset. Take china for an example |

dreamxhaser:I beg to differ. Using data from the last general election, it would be overreaching to assume we're even more than 150m. 90m registered voters (which by the way consist of even deceased persons, I know this personally), and yet, under 25 million votes cast in one of the most keenly contested election since 1993. During an ARISETV post-election show a comparative analysis was done to display the efficacy of the BVAS, and I saw where some PUs in Delta State, which used to record 60k plus votes pre-2023 having less than 5k votes in the 2023 general election. Factor in the massive underage voting that occasions our election and you understand the point. Reading comments thus far, I cringe at how Nigerians underestimate the type of politicians we have and how far they're willing to go to have a political advantage. Our population is terribly overbloated, especially down South. In fact, especially down South, we're soon going to experience a population decline due to urbanization. |

Lack of education is the main cause of over population. An educated couples knows they shouldn,t be bearing more children than they can cater for.so our leaders are the major problem because they actually need this population for their own ambition and they ecourage poverty so we can have more population growth. |

I'm very sure that 73million is not correct, it's an error, Nigeria is more than that 73m as at that time..because our fore fathers even give birth more than we do now |

Anyone stating our current population is a problem is either pro-Tinubu, being economical with the truth or flat out ignorant of the subject. Our population as it currently stands vis-a-vis our resources and level of productivity is very Ok. One major problem that compels us into thinking we're a poor nation: resource distribution. Let's use the NDDC as a case study. Since its inception the agency has received nearly 21trillion in allocation. Does the ND look like 21trillion has come there? No! Not even East West road has been completed till date. 70% of that money ended up in local and overseas bank accounts. 70% of that money wasn't used for it's intended purpose. The result is poor infrastructure in the subregion, and poor infrastructure means low productivity. We have the funds to finance an agriculture revolution that would put an end to importation of so many agric commodities we import, but the money we need to do this is domiciled in banks yielding interests that has no real economic impact. Elon Musk, Bill Gates etc. have most of their wealth tied to the value of their stocks, while most Nigerian rich people have billions in actual money lying in banks and doing nothing. Pension funds in bank accounts are in trillions, but they're not impacting the economy. We have the money to industrialize, bit we are not. We have the money to increase SME productivity, but we don't. If a man has billions and refuses to share it judiciously across his family they'd starve. |
