A very big part of China's recent aggressive militaristic behaviour is based on the horrors they suffered under Japan during the war. Even Korea and other Japanese administered SE Asian nations was not exempted from the brutality.
That's why they (China) have chosen their destiny with their hands instead of waiting for someone to decide for them.

I do not condone those casualties, but we still need to understand that war is purely a "kill or be killed" situation. The purpose of using those bombs was to force a surrender and put an end to the war once and for all because the Japanese were planning to invade, which would have prolonged it and resulted in more bloodshed on their own side.

Even the Germans were prepping for their own atomic bomb if not for Oppenheimer beating them to it and hitting technical difficulties with its research program.
