The bomb was not necessary. The people targeted were not at the war front, they were civilians far away from the field of action. It was utterly wicked to use not one but two atomic bombs on a civilian population. Pearl Harbour was a military installation and fair game, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not.

They are 2 school of thoughts, the other being that the war could have effectively ended without the use of the Atomic Bombs albeit it would have taken a little longer. The use of the bombs was effectively down to Harry Truman's temperament and America being accustomed to winning wars in past with "an unconditional enemy surrender" and "dictating peace", and Uncle Sam's complicated relationship with the Soviets that still persists till this day. The allied forces lead by the Soviets were marching on the Fuhrer's stronghold, hell bent on bringing them to a total surrender, America needed a quick and decisive victory in the Pacific to even out this perceived "power balance" with the Soviets, Hence the "hasty" decision to drop Little Boy and Fat Man on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the 6th and 9th of August, 1945.

Why not? Are their citizens subhumans?

A very big part of China's recent aggressive militaristic behaviour is based on the horrors they suffered under Japan during the war. Even Korea and other Japanese administered SE Asian nations was not exempted from the brutality.
That's why they (China) have chosen their destiny with their hands instead of waiting for someone to decide for them.

China today are playing the hand they were dealt.

The war effectively ended when Germany surrendered, using not one but two atomic bombs was just a show of force imo

Maan. WW2 was such a complex war that they were no clear rules of engagement. After the gruesome acts of Nazi Germany against the Jews, All bets were off but the use of a "potentially world ending" weapon was supposed to never be an option but Uncle Sam wield so much power beyond people's imagination. If you deep it, they have been getting away with alot over the years.

If the Germans or Japan had the atomic bomb they would have used it..
The US was in race against time when creating that bomb.

The Japs were actually developing theirs but they couldn't get lay their hands on Uranium

You are correct about the Japs building something of a "nuclear" nature with enriching uranium becoming a stumbling block so the idea never made it past blueprint.

But it's a game of If's, there's no certainty in telling what they would have done if they did successfully build one, but it still doesn't justify USA's use with oblivious civilians the main casualties.

You're quite mistaken, though. First of all, regardless of the end result, there were always going to be casualties. I do not condone those casualties, but we still need to understand that war is purely a "kill or be killed" situation. The purpose of using those bombs was to force a surrender and put an end to the war once and for all because the Japanese were planning to invade, which would have prolonged it and resulted in more bloodshed on their own side.

Second, contrary to what some claim, using those bombs wasn't just a show of force. Complex military, strategic, and political factors all played a role in the decision. Now let me clarify as to why Hiroshima and Nagasaki were specifically targeted:
Both cities served as crucial military and industrial hubs for Japan's war effort.

Hiroshima was chosen because it was home to military command centers, communication networks, and significant factories that produced war materials like aircraft parts and military hardware. It served as the Japanese military's logistical center and had a sizable port.

Although Nagasaki was not the intended target, it was selected as a fallback after the intended target, Kokura, was obscured by clouds. Nagasaki was a heavily industrialized city with shipyards, steel mills, and munitions factories. It was a vital transportation hub for military supplies because it also had a sizable seaport.

In order to weaken Japan's overall war effort and cripple its industrial and military infrastructure, these cities were targeted. As I stated at the outset, there were always going to be casualties, and I do not discount the tragic human toll of the bombings and the long-lasting effects from radiation exposure the preceding generation suffered. However, the intention was to shock the Japanese leadership, ultimately pressuring them to surrender.

I guess they would have used it on the Americans anyways. How they used it might be different tho.

Even the Germans were prepping for their own atomic bomb if not for Oppenheimer beating them to it and hitting technical difficulties with its research program.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen because manufacturing industries were situated there and the citizens have also been warned beforehand by the allies of the coming destruction
