This pitiful situation is also present in ALL states in Nigeria. Na all of us dey suffer am for this country.

Las las, it depends on what you want people to see. Not all parts of Onitsha are fully developed as well.

If anywhere in Nigeria was capital it would have been like what Abuja is today.
Onitsha might be more developed than it is today, but it would have lacked the needed Seaport that Lagos and other states have, because Onitsha is in the hinterland.


So there's nothing special about Onitsha.

Asaba
Warri
Bonny
Kano
Kaduna
Enugu
Calabar
Owerri etc

All these cities have never been capital of Nigeria since 1914, but look at them. They are developing at a faster and better rate than Onitsha the dumpyard.

Onitsha is not in any hinterland. Like Calabar, a concerted connivance between the north and southwest guaranteed that a functional seaport have remained a pipe dream for these locations as a spoil of war.

It is no secret that majority of manufactured goods imported into Lagos ports sooner or later heads eastwards. Situating a functional port in Onitsha is a no-brainer, including dredging the Niger. It is the will that was absent.
