45k pounds is enough for me to run a succesful busy here rather than spending it on a certificate. To hell with MSC
true.
but you also have to consider that many people going out for studies do not have this cash saved up.
they rely mostly on the earnings in the UK to cover it and then start earning without much obligations which frees up more disposable cash.

This is true for a family moving to UK. One thing is certain, Nigerians will still be going to UK. Many will only enter UK before they realize that mistakes have been made. How many immigrants make 30k pounds/yr in UK right now? Many parents will be total strangers to their children since they have to be working 24/7 to survive.
ChristineC:
even if we consider the cheaper schools, average tuition for MSc has gone up to £16k last I checked.
Insurance and visa fee is about £1k. the average student has a spouse so make that £2k.
flight expenses will cost about #1.5m for two people.
average rent in London for somewhere near private for a student is £500 - £650 (£8k a year). hall of residence will be cheaper for those that can afford lump sum.
student expenditure of about £550 monthly (£7k +/-a year). add spouse expenditure of around £300 (£3k +/-). around £10k combined expenditure a year.
we are still having a budget of near £40k.

I will honestly never even understand what migrants find appealing about the UK.

That country drains what should be your savings with monumental taxes. The UK is not even amongst the top 5 countries with the highest GDP per capital.

You wan migrate, wetin do Canada, Australia, USA, Sweden, Austria, or even China, Japan, Russia? Wetin una dey actually find for UK?
UK is the easiest western country to migrate. That's the truth nd simple answer. U can enter UK with less than 5 million packaging. Admission into uk schools no get wahal at all.
UK is a case of at all at all, na him bad pass.

To attempt Canada relocation, u must have nothing less than 20 million in real cash in your account. The express entry score alone na die.

For Australia, the screening process is tedious and student visa application not too straightforward. Rejection rate is very high.

The only way to enter USA now is student visa. First u write SAT, GRE or GMAT, then get school admission which ain't easy. Finally u go and play Russian roulette at the American embassy. U need to see how people are bounced during visa interview. Everybody in the hall will know u've been rejected.
Don't even bother with USA visiting visa, the way dem go bounce u for embassy..shame sef go catch u.

Most European countries have language barriers, without learning the language u can't get good jobs and build a successful career. Most Nigerians in Europe eventually end up relocating to UK due to this issue of language barrier.

China and Russia is out of it. People travel so that they can send money home. Wages in those countries are nothing to write home about. Wetin u wan do with 300 dollars per month. U may live a good live in the countries but nothing else.

Pls don't advise Nigerians to travel to Japan or Singapore. They are not immigrant friendly towards Africans. U will end up wasting years stuck in a place without anything to show for it.

Arab gulf countries are actually a good option for professionals and career people. I'm surprised u didn't mention it.

True! Uk is very difficult for most immigrants at the moment. I would rather go to Switzerland,
Germany, Canada than go to UK. You can only enjoy UK on vacation

I'm pretty sure Nigerians will start avoiding the UK, at least those for MSc.
the incentives for them are already wiped off. higher cost equivalent in naira, no dependent, increased visa cost and insurance.
why will anybody be willing to waste £45k for a masters degree in the UK when there are good alternatives like SE Asia, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Canada?
It's not up to 45k pounds.and it takes just one year.after that you can leave the country for them

So if they stop the migrants, how would they see funds to implement increase in health workers salary?

It seems they aren’t serious.
They checked how much they made from buhari alone and it was mouth watering

Japan Is actually immigrant friendly. Singapore is the one that is deadly. I won't even advise anyone to study there even if they get a scholarship. That country is only for singaporeans. Getting a US student visa as hard as it is, is actually the easy part. Staying back after school is where the real hardship starts. Getting a US green card through the study route Is very very difficult except through marriage. I think people should learn languages. In Canada express entry those who know how to speak french are getting picked. Imagine a 375 score yesterday. People should learn languages now. It expands the options. A smart Nigerian youth should utilise their service year to learn a foreign language to intermediate level.

The UK has definitely run out of ideas on how to improve their earnings. That's why they are turning to taxing immigrants.

By the way, I was just studying how countries around the world tax their people. I realise that the UK should be the highest in the world.

Honestly, I hail Nigerians who live in the UK. How can someone cope in a country where you can pay income tax of about 45% coming from a country where you pay peanuts in taxes?
majority of people in the uk earn less than 35k a year. Tax is 20% for most people . The one of 60k for example. 50k will be taxed 20% and the 10k extra 40%. So its not exactly 40%.

Stop comparing this way.

Each country pays on the basis of how expensive its country is. If UK starts paying her citizen Nigeria wages, it will never be enough because UK is very expensive.

If Nigerian starts earning UK salary, there will be too much money in circulation which will lead to serious inflation.

Mango and Apple are fruits but different.

Everytime stay for your country and build it, how far have you built Nigeria? How do you build a country that wants to borrow 500 billion and share 8k to it's citizen. Please stop this building you're talking about. You only build a country that is ready to be built.

Those guys are raking-in stupid money! They can never stop it! The embassy is raking in billions, and the migrants are also working and pumping money into their economy through taxes.

UK and Canada are playing same card! Their economy cannot even sustain what they bringing-in, but they need the money and taxes.

To go and do what?
If UK do visa free for Russians, the country itself will be empty!

You mentioned China also, do you want to go mop the floor. The competition is very high in China and African standing a chance for a top job is extra ordinarily rare. They are highly educated to the extent that, a black foreigner would stand 1/1000 chance.

Tonymegabush1 Do you blame them, we all desire to migrate to the UK, the day I went to the IOM office in Abuja to run my TB test really pity for Nigeria as a country.

I was more curious about the number of candidates that came for their Test as well, I was given tag 41 waiting for my turn the number then was up to 80+ and still counting before I was called to enter another room. Still, people were coming in.
Mind you these were on the UK candidates, the Canadas Australians, etc had their buildings separate.

IOM still has an office in Lagos as well I don't know the number of applicants there but I believe it will amount to a reasonable figure.

A test in an IOM center for adults costs over 57,800 per candidate. Statistically, IOM makes an average of 9-10 million naira every day for TB alone. With that figure in my head, I only put that weep for this country.

Another one that pains me so much is the IELTS exam, why subject Nigerians to an English proficiency test, an MSc applicant from Nigeria has over 16years if not more in his/her study life using English as a mode of instruction, all these are avenues to remit money back to their countries I guess.

Nigerians spend so much money just to travel out but do I blame them undecided fix this country and all this queuing in Embassy will reduce drastically.

IOM dey play sef where Qlife medical facility dey concerning their Visa medical examination charges. United States two acceptable medical facilities in Nigeria are just Qlife in Lagos and IOM in both Lagos and Abuja. Qlife fees are way higher than IOM. I paid almost #140k in 2022 during my US Visa medical examination at Qlife in Lagos State.

am still not arguing on that.my point is if u can earn up to £125k, u should not have problem paying 45% tax.Take most top footballers in England 4 example, many of them earn £150k+ so paying upto £70k as tax nd still go home with like £80k is not bad.If Nigeria has jobs that pay u up to that amount then I believe ppl won't have problem paying up to 45% of their salary as tax.
