Do all your job description said without complaints and distraction.

Follow how it should be done meticulously and not anyhow as your colleagues may be doing it.

As someone said above, don't do what is against the policy because someone else is doing it, he may escape punishment but you might not.

Avoid unnecessary excuses to be late or absent or to go for leave, it causes you not to be taken serious when other important engagements come up that you may need the excuse.
Last but not the least, NEVER EVER stay in a company accommodation, it breds insult.

Never work for a man who is CHRONIC womanizer, it always ends in regrets.

Don’t be fooled by what they portray outside (social media).

Set clear boundaries in the workplace.

Avoid or run FAR from organization that uses crack version of softwares.

Learn to short change your employers (VERY necessary) because the "take home" will NEVER take you home.

Don't stay in company accommodation, they turn you to their slaves.

Leave organization that doesn't give you chance of improvements

If by any chance your salary is delayed even for a day or not paid as agreed (without communicating to you why it's been delayed) on the offer letter, activate exit plan ASAP.

Lack/inadequate medical services for staff - If the medical services (HMO) does not cover you ONLY or you & your family, don't run, disappear!!

No Ieave allowance (you work 24/7 & 365 days) Just resign ASAP

I once worked in a company where the MD was a womanizer. He was also going after his secretaries.

Anyways.. About a million naira got missing and the secretary was called because she collates all cash transaction and deposits them to the bank. Besides that her reports were not balanced.

She immediately accused me that hacked her system and Iphone to commit the fraud. As i was the IT staff and i designed the company’s software at the time.

Omo.. Na so I shock.. Fear woman. Unfortunately we were sharing the same office and because they MD was dating her, he took mainly took her side

The MD called the police and we were both arrested and detained. Na so them lock us up for 3 days.

I was treated poorly, my wife was not allowed to see or bring food for me until i got a lawyer to represent me.

The DPO eventually called us and stated that we would have to split the payment in half otherwise we would remain detained. I refused and planned to take it to court. however my parents eventually paid as they could not keep seeing me in that state.

As i was being released, a cousin to the secretary, came to meet me privately and told me that the MD told the secretary not to pay anything and that he wants to suffer me. He also bribed some of the police officers to make sure i am being treated badly.

Long story short, after i was released, I left the company and the secretary remained only for her get caught stealing another large sum of money.

As your moniker suggests, it's like you too gentle and too tolerate things sha that's why the company was able to overuse you for that long
Gentlesoul2021:
I got out of one in March, an hotel owned by a former governor managed by one wicked chairman...

He talk on people anyhow, and fond of saying he's untouchable cos he's a politician and roll with high Caliber. He curses employee even beat up a guy at a point. Well I was praying at some point he'd beat me and I will strike back then take issues up with him, very useless person.

People think we the workers are enjoying like mad since it was owned by a former governor and all form of dignities lodge there.

My employment contract stated different role but I was moved to a different department to work, not quite long, I was moved to another cos one of their old staff angrily resigned cos of the man abuse.

In space of 4-5 months I was moved or will I say yeye promotion thrice, yet salary didn't improve. It got to a point I was the only one working in the store department, doing all the work, a big hotel.

There was a new building extension they were doing that time as well, and I was the one also supervising the store where all materials are kept, I'd be the one receiving and issuing out every bullshits concerning the site.
The site engineer and architect pitied me at some point and protested the company employ an assistant for me yet they kept giving excuses.

All these are totally off the job description I signed.

I lost everything in me, I was a shadow of my self. I started loosing weight that the attraction of people got to me and they started asking me to go for check up.

Haaa ino contact any thing oo I do shout.

I had little sleep, we resume by 7am and closes God knows time and the closing time on the contract stated 5pm. There was a time I got home by 12am and I'd resume by 7am again which I do wake up by ,4 or 5am.

The company do recruit here and there, very useless place. I could remember we were 12 that came in, in my batch, 6 made out just after a week. Hard working old staff, all left but the chairman believe in soldier comes and go, barrack no dey empty. Very intelligent individual has left that place.

The treatment was just so bad, over use of staff and staff shortage. A person can be doing the work of 3 people yet collect salary of just one person.

No good company management, everybody working for the purpose of eye service in courtesy of the so-called chairman.

Co-workers will be shouting on each other, no coordination and no professionalism. Manager will be giving bad report concerning his team members, it got to a point there were party in the company and they were fighting physically and even otherwise.

My mental health moved from bad to worse, I had to tender resignation letter which they rejected, I had to battle it out with them and exit that evil place.

First lesson I learnt was, always go close to the staff they keep complaining about, they are non-conformists.

My first job, they were criticizing a woman in my first ever staff meeting, she didn't mute a word, after several meetings where they keep complaining about her, I decided this deviant staff was the best person to get close too, in the end it turn out, she gave useful information on how to survive on such job & I learnt how to deal which such people/ management.

When she resigned, it took them over 7 months to get a replacement and the replacement spend just a month and resigned and I became the new deviant. Learn to speak up, don't be a yes person without questioning everything, don't give or take sh!t.

You've saved yourself slot. Friendship no de pay. Build friendship around your business or working place
Friendship pays, I think it does. No matter how busy or rich one is, one will always yean for relationships/Friendship/companionship. It's not our fault, it's nature.

I don't usually like nor enjoy office Friendship or relationship, seeing same people everyday kills the excitement, I prefer just casual Friendship at place of work.

I have friends abroad lots of them who tell me they regret being too serious with their academics that they neglected Friendship/relationships. You know, it's better marrying your childhood friend than starting afresh with a stranger.

They're stuck abroad, lonely. Making contacts with those down here, to see if something can come out.

Balancing things is always they way to go, if one is suffering, then you might pay for it at the long run.
