This thread is in line with the Guy that said he was confused if he should Japa to Canada or UK at age over 40.

I noticed that some people were advising him to invest in Nigeria, some said Farm, others mentioned different options. Firstly, investing in Nigeria as a Medium Scale entrepreneur is the worst thing you can do to yourself in Nigeria, especially as a new business owner. Maybe different, if you are expanding from Small Scale.

Know this "95% of your employees are out there to scam you, including family members, with the exception of God fearing Mums". Years ago i worked with my late Multi-Billionaire uncle. I was shock when i noticed that by 7am, he was at work and he was the last to always close. I asked him that Baba i thought that at this stage your money should be working for you. I thought the managers should be the one reporting to him. Uncle said if he should do that, he would be finished completely. He wanted to travel for his Son wedding in the US, he said he couldn't. i then offered to help.

What my eyes saw within that period. They never knew i was a spying on them. Every single supplier was connected on returns, including his nephew was involved in the scam. Fuel stations that they buy petroleum products from also had agents working with the staff. It was pathetic. In my opinion you can only successfully do business if you are small scale (Kiosk, small shops, Akara seller, bread, provisions) or you are a very big business with a clear cut out business plan of national effects (Line managers responsible for monitoring).

Medium scale business can never succeed here. No be curse. We are not different from our leaders, we are inherently wicked. I am beginning to think that the black race is cursed. If you have money and you have never been into business, Japa is a better option. I remember when my Mum wanted me to Japa after University some 14 years ago, I didn't because i had a good job, a car and was living in Surulere. When i got married, i discovered that life ain't bed of roses, despite my wife bringing something to the table. I still realised that i couldn't give my children the kind of life my parents gave me. In 2004 at SS3, my parents were paying school fees worth 250k per term for my secondary school. I can't dare send my kids to same school and this is 2023. Had to Japa and i ain't regretting.

When I left university I was very lucky to get a job that sponsored me to Europe on a platter of gold. I went to Europe for the first time in my life without even visiting the embassy in Nigeria. My visa was done while I was there. I left the job and came back to Nigeria to do business. Omho the kind suffering wey choke me eh, in a years time I was super broke. Covid came and I managed to pick up a new skill and God so faithful I was able to get something going with it. I planned my japa immediately I got my job in 2020.

If you have no experience in business, just avoid it. Business is extremely difficult and in Nigeria it's ten times more difficult. Everyone is out to cheat you. Customers, your fellow colleagues, your suppliers. The list is endless and there's zero rule of law. You can be scammed and theres no police to go to. The thing with business in Nigeria is that if it fails, Nigeria has no safety net. You can fall into severe poverty and never ever return. Thankfully I have very wonderful parents and a strong support base at home but not everyone has this. Abroad if your business or startup fails, you can always live on government benefits and then find a new job and gradually rebuild yourself. In Nigeria it's not even easy to get back into paid employment if you didn't succeed doing business and even if you did, it's very difficult to get any sort of job In Nigeria

The people saying he should do business in Nigeria ( farming) are mostly farm managers themselves looking for work or a novice they can scam. A friend did pineapple business in ogun state with a group of friends . They didn’t break even. Some did maize fulani cows ate it or they were kidnapped.Me i don do catfish in the past farm manager wreck the business . The only businesses you can make it easily in Nigeria is government contract or being a front for a politician.

If you also don’t have a criminal mindset it will he hard to make it business in that country. You are selling rice or beans you will have to remove 1 or 2 derica to create extra bag. You are selling electronics you will have to change the logo from chinko to panasonic or sharp. You are selling car batteries you relabel it from a small KV to a higher one. You are making bread you add bromate to it.

Then you are dealing with criminal staff. Driver will steal fuel from the trucks, use your truck carry consignment you dont know about, accountant and operations people will inflate cost of things. Abeg oo

My take on this Japa matter is, if you've the wherewithal to travel out, please do. When things settle in Nigeria, perhaps in 10 years time, you can relocate back if you so please. Things are harder for most people in Nigeria, unlike abroad where there's system that works. Like someone said above, if you can do business, then be ready to monitor it yourself, having your eyes and ears on the ground. Salary earners will feel the brunt more, because they will be most hit, especially given the circumstances in the country today, unless they find a side hustle to get other sources of income.

Instead of physical business I like online business.

No staff no tax from local government just live low no carry body up or buy flashy cars.

Just open a blog throw 300 post on any niche sites and you're off to the races.

This is if you're passionate about the topic ooo.

If you're looking for a niche here's a hack.

intext:"This Site is affiliated with CMI Marketing" yoga

If you like yoga as a niche and passionate about it.

Or
intext:"Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)" your niche

Most people overthink niche research.

With this youve people who are making money with display ads.

For theme use a free theme like generate press.

Don't over think it.

Learn on page SEO and you're off to the races

If you want to go the blogging route beware of opinion from the so called experts most are just opinion.

Test test and test things for yourself.

Here's YouTube channel to follow

Income school project24.

Blogging and online business is hard if you're lazy and don't put In the work.

Want to use AI content dey play because na robot you dey write for.

Instead if you have money buy a site already generating cash and let it spit in more cash.

Wish I knew about it would not have invested in treasury bill.

Well anytime day break na him be morning.

Don't go and try it if you don't have all the details ooo.

you don carry political biased mind enter the thread. I did many businesses in naija during PDP era and I knew scores, an average African man and woman na criminal and heartless.

I used Africans in general bcoz I've also set up businesses in two other African countries and also knew the scores. Many people are ready to finish up your business to their advantage without having any guilty conscience.

Is it APC or PDP government that will make your trusted friends or family member defraud you or loot your business?

You can't even trust those you know not to talk of outsiders.

These things may be more in Nigeria but it's a general thing in other African countries at least those that I've visited and lived in.
It's also happening in advanced countries but it's minimal.

We were taught in the school that being a businessman or woman gave you wealth and riches you can never get in being a salary earner but does one become successful with this kind of toxic environment that's not conducive for business.

Someone like me, I don't like working for anyone, love to be my own boss always but your environment sometimes makes your disobey or bend your rules.

I can't advice anyone to chose business over japa, I can only advice the person to plan the japa very well not to lead to regret.

If you start a business today with 20m there's no guarantee you will still worth 5m this time next year.

When planning a business most things that'll be rushing into your mind are always positive, it'll be as if in few months time your money would have been doubled or tripled but onc you enter it then reality will be revealing itself. Unless the business you're 100% in charge with no employee even at that you'll still be transacting with people and anything can still happen.

Nigeria is not designed for hardworking people. No matter how hard you work, there's something that will be dragging you back, be it epileptic power supply, multiple taxation or thieves disguised as employees.

Many rich Nigerians you see riding cars and owning multiple buildings made money through fraud. Politicians, company staff and bank managers down to the cleaners and security men are into one fraud or another.

And you as a jobless man is wondering why there are few job opportunities. There are fewer jobs because your fellow Nigerians are killing and choking life out of the available companies established by real local and foreign entrepreneurs through extreme fraud.

And that's the reason many establishments collapsed before 5 years of their existence.

Haba this has been happening before APC Govt. The story I shared happened when GEJ was president.

The Govt has its own massive fault, but we as a people are very very very wicked. I sometimes regret why I am black. But I thank God that amongst African countries, I am Nigerian.

While I understand you, I don't agree totally.

I know people that started businesses, did well and expanded their businesses. It depends on the business, the area and the employees. Not all employees are out to cheat you.

I think alot of the problems start with you wanting instant gain. It does not work like that. Businesses can take up to a few years to pick up and start making profits. I have seen this one happen.

Yes, it is harder to start and maintain a business here but that's what makes it very profitable when that business picks up.

The ones you're replying are not novices or kids that don't know how long it takes to make the first real profit. Everyone knows this. Everyone will tell you this when you try out any business.

If you're in Nigeria, and you operate a business that the employees can rip you off and steal from, you'll make massive losses. There's no escaping that.

Employees in Nigeria will steal from you. That's a fact! It's funny when people say this won't always happen. It's because they don't own a business here.

If you're operating a farm and you're not monitoring it every single day, sorry is your case. For example employees literally break eggs into bottles to smuggle out of the farm. Now, of what use will these broken eggs be to them financially? There's just that terrible mentality that we have in this country. Some of the thefts won't even make sense to you.

Someone like you comes off as a straightforward, simple person. It's people like you I pity the most when it comes to getting into certain businesses.

For the same ladipo they go commot scrap from cars wey don get accident for naija and they go sell am for market. They dey even mix engine oil and put am for rubber sell. Omho me I no fit do that kind thing cheesy grin.

Person go come market buy engine they go intentionally sell bad engine and when you come back they no go gree change am.
