Russia is taking advantage of every situation to get Africa under thier leadership. They're exploiting our poverty by suddenly gifting our presidents and inviting them to summits where they're treated nicely. It won't be a surprise if they're also exploiting our security situation by supporting the coup. It's not about the people of Niger, but about Putin's goal of antagonizing the West at all cost.

The West isn't angelic, but Putin isn't any better. Someone said Russia is trying to decolonize Africa. West African do not need war among themselves on behave of the US and EU in other to get the western hegemony going. Any resolution must be done diplomatically.
