One major strategic difference is that Niger is sitting at the longest border with Nigeria.
It is just there at the border. No country separates Nigeria and Niger.

You're very naive and your naivety is even funny. You probably think those two small countries are not resolute about their declaration and support for the coup. Do you think they will engage in a conflict without an external support? Don't you see that it's already a proxy face-off propaganda, as the US has indicated support for Nigeria and ECOWAS while Russia is in the play already but with some stealth.

Secondly, the Nigeria Army is now a shadow of itself and can no longer operate in the capacity of the heydays of ECOMOG. You should understand that the dynamics is gonna change drastically if there be a foreign intervention as enemies are gonna switch sides and don't be surprised if you see those sahel mercenaries (or supposed terrorists) fighting alongside those three small countries. It's gonna be a devastating one for the Nigerian army, to say the least.
