Oyo Workers Continue Protest, Beat Up Colleagues For Non-Compliance by buzmanjohn(op): 8:15pm On Aug 01, 2023
Protesting members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, in Oyo State, disrupted activities at the State Secretariat, Agodi as their ongoing protest continued on Tuesday.

Some civil servants who ignored the directives of the labour union to join the protest were however not spared as some of them were beaten and chased out of their offices.

A civil servant was reportedly injured in the process after he was attacked by the protesters.

The victim who was bruised in his legs claimed to have entered the office to pick up some of his belongings when he was confronted by the protesters.

The aggrieved labour activists barricaded the entrance to the secretariat complex as they wielded sticks to enforce the strike action. This also affected the flow of vehicular traffic along the area.

The protest started on Monday with the workers demanding payment of leave bonus, payment of gratuities to retirees that had been delayed since 2021 and release of promotion letters for 2021 and 2022.

The protesting workers also alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde had refused to yield to their demands.

My people of Rivers state when are we starting our protest against Wike's 3rd term through his lackluster protege? It's a shame that Rivers civil servants have remained stagnant for over 8 years earning the same old wage. At a time when a state like Imo, Ogun, Ebonyi, Anambra, etc are compensating their workers with an additional N10k monthly along with laudable welfare policies, Governor Fubara of Rivers state's priority is rather channeled on constructing one of the most expensive flyovers in Africa while the citizen groans under economic hardship

To be candid, the protest should be held & well coordinated.

Nothing sentimental, nothing political. It's just to protect the interest of the workers.

NLC is fast losing its relevance.
