I think people should be made to understand the business decisions Shell is making. Shell has been divesting their onshore and shallow offshore assets for more than 10 years mostly due to the need to move away from the volatile communities surrounding these assets. It's not only Shell, all multinationals have been doing this. A case in point is one OPL 2007 hitherto operated by Total but was given up by them and Conoil Producing got this asset as a PSC block and converted to OML 150 after fulfilling contractual obligations.
Multinationals just prefer to focus their efforts on deep offshore activities with little or no interference by oil producing communities and prospects for profit maximization.
Even ExxonMobil has divested their 4 shallow offshore assets in Eket area where Seplat seems to have picked up the juiciest of them all.
It's a business decision not that they are leaving the country due to corruption or economic downturn. They institutionalized the corruption we are talking about today in any case.

Yes it is true that Shell had en trying to sell some of its assets onshore and slow waers in about 2 years now, but it is very unlikely that the will sell to Eroton who has failed to manage the OML 18 oil and gas block they acquired before such thar NNPC had to take it over from them.

With the kind of things I am reading in this article Nigerians should be the richest humans on earth. 80 percent of Nigerians should be driving a super car..our police should be using ferrari and lambo..foreigners should be attending our universities from Europe. And ppl should be coming from all over the world for health tourism..our citizens would have no interest in staying in foreign land rather they would go and acquire skills on new technologies in 1 to 10 yrs come home and become a force to reckon with establishing our own general motors...apple...nvidia...mayo clinic Boeing and all.. our passport would be so strong that we would visit over 190 countries visa free or on arrival..we have the ability to achieve this we just lack that kind of leaders and the citizens are so used to the abnormal that even the normal is now looking like an impossible feat.

Most companies for the past 8 years has been planning to exit the country due to unfriendly economic environment, inconsistency and corrupt igovernment policies etc. Some of the companies that endured the 8 years was waiting for fortune change, waiting to see who the new Sheriff in Aso Rock would be but alas the number one man in the country is nobody but a Promax of the former. Thence, the exit of GSK, tactical exit of Shell and so many others that you will hear about in coming days.

These companies have parted ways with Nigeria, sold their assets or divested as the case may be.

- Etisalat.
- ExxonMobil.
- Tiger Brands.
- HSBC and UBS.
- Mr Price Group Ltd.

They are selling oil facilities at a time when there is nobody manufacturing petrol car anymore, who is mad enough to buy that.
