This poser is timely for me. I had an interview. I know I didn't perform very well . But I didn't get my self since the very day one of the interviewer expressed his surprise that i couldn't make the induction. Since then, I have been blaming myself for missing out of the job. I still work there as contract staff and whenever I see those of my set that got the job I usually feel sorry for failing myself and family. It hurts. Life goes on.

When I told them 20m PA gross ..

The role was head of IT but for a new entrance company into the Nigeria FMCG industry ,whose parent company is in Spain.

I was comfortable where I work as a service delivery manager only money will be an incentive to take such risk with a new company .

The way they looked at me ,I knew they couldn't pay.

I seek your leniency to tell you that 'botched' is an adjective word, not a verb. You cannot botched an interview, rather you can only have a botched interview.

Having said that, I am of a belief that failure is part of success, you learn from your failure to prepare for success. A botched interview strengthens you for the upcoming ones.
Are you sure about your claim that "botched" is only an adjective huh Lol.

In fact, I just finished an interview now but i believed that to some extent I tried. All is left to God which I believe will take control.

Your poor performance starts from preparing just one week to the interview date.

The problem with most Nigerians is they think interview is like a class examination where you have to read the toughest part of the course. No bi so.

The ability to communicate and be understood is what makes one ace any interview.

If you are fluent and have basic knowledge of the job you are applying, you will pass any interview.

My first job interview, the HR asked if I have a girlfriend, omo... I use that one hold them for blokos. I funnily narrated how we have been faring and how I will apply that skill on the job.

They all laughed and I got the job later.

Be a good communicator
lol..I agree with you tho, but your last part is due to the type of person you are, probably an extrovert, an introvert would have found that question awkward, putting more pressure on them.

I've never done any interview before.

Piece of advice, get to know people, work on your network first.

Your own case is better since you're even getting to the interview stage.

I've submitted 10s of CV with zero interview invitation

But I won't stop trying

While your point is understood, don't you think it is only fair if interviewers look beyond fluency, especially for a technical role that requires hands-on demonstration? Emphasis on "hands-on demonstration".
What happened after your fluency helps you scale through the interview but eventually, you can't get the job done

You will get it soon bro.. and when you finally get there, just try to be yourself and answered all questions sincerely. Forget all these online templates about how to answer interview questions. They would only make you want to memorize the templates and use it to answer questions. Trust me, you will stutter and forget salient points.

Put it behind you. Even if you think you did well there could be another preferred candidate by a top boss in the organization.

In a job interview, It’s is said that how well you express your career story leaves a remarkable impression. However,
Have you ever attended a job interview and at the end of the interview, you knew so well that you botched the job interview?
How does one manage that thought that keeps ringing back like “oh I messed up!!!!”?
Is it advisable to send a follow up mail to the Hr clarifying your poor performance and trying to redeem yourself?
What’s the root cause for anyone to botch a job interview, having been preparing for same interview for like a week??

In my opinion, I think interviewer should look beyond judging anyone base on verbal expression , especially for technical role. Anyone can stutter, make blunders or even blanked-out during interview due to anxiety or something, and I honestly feel that should not negate the fact that the interviewee possesses the technical capabilities and hand-on demonstrations to get the job done.
Nairalanders, what’s your take on this??
You over prepared and paid too much attention to the interview. Next time, free style go and talk like you are having a conversation with your friends. Na only two things go happen. U either win it or you loose it. Life goes on.

I am tired of interview questions, I can't be studying for interview questions like I am preparing for jamb. All those HR should do better

"Can we meet you? Ans: are you not meeting me already?"
"Why did you apply for the job? Ans: because I need the job?"
"Tell us about yourself? Ans: did you not go through my CV?"

One was asking me why I chose to learn tailoring Next time punch that interviewer for mouth carry your bag waka.

I hate this type of embarrassment in interviews. I will continue as normal and later politely terminate the application.
