All this one na just cap Baba. There's many things going well for Barbie and a huge part was the director and the cast. Greta Gerwig is well loved by her fans and critics alike. Her name alone brought optimism and removed doubts for many in that film. Couple that with Margot Robbie popularity and rich cast. One of the most stacked cast with top talent actors, and you people are wondering why it's performing this good, while being an internet sensation?? All those cast are also actors very popular with young people.
Una dey funny walahi. 😅😂😂

All these funny talk didn't come out when the movie was announced or months close to its debut. It's mainly folks in Nigeria here on Nairaland that I've been seeing weird comments from the beginning that it would flop.
Some of you just want to talk and discredit the film cos you don't like it.

Europeans and Americans don't have this weird thinking. It was always bound to be successful, just how successful was the question.

This is not the first Barbie movie has little to no water. Cos none of those movies were theatrically released. Direct to home video releases rarely counts as shït these days when it comes to box office collection.
All this Shalaye pro max didn't come out when Beauty and The Beast went on to gross $1.26bn in 2015 despite there being numerous movies about it before.

What is this one saying? I always knew that Barbie would blow.

My only question is how much was spent on marketing.

Current estimates says $150mn. You get the real picture a few months time.

But realistically, Hollywood don't spend over $150mn for even their biggest blockbusters. So that price is reasonable.
Only if you're Avatar: The Way of the Water you spend $175mn on marketing.

Schindler's List - 20000/10
This movie broke me and broke personal records for me
1. This is a 3 hours 15 minutes movie and I watched this twice in two days- a first for me
2. This is the first movie I actually cried like really got me tearing up
3. This is the best black and white movie ever I've watched since the Dictator and Casablanca
4. This is the best movie I've watched since 2019- it could be my all time best movie ever if I watch it a couple more times
5. First movie I researched Immediately I watched it
PS: if you watched this movie without being emotional, you're dead inside or you're the devil himself

That's good.... marketing has picked up.
It was initially projected for a paltry $15mn debut few weeks ago.

Tickets just became available last week. Not yet available in Canada. So, it have potential of going up.

You're the one still capping nonsense. Is Endgame not a bigger movie or in the same level as Way of The Water??

An exception is not the norm.

Now show me other movies with that kind of $200mn marketing budget since you love yarning rubbish as always.

12 Angry Men (1957).

A black and white all-timer 🌟

Finally laid my hands on the criterion release of this cult classic and finally gave it a watch and what a treat it was.

The plot is modest but brilliant in all ramifications. Shot in entirety in one location so gracefully that it left an indelible mark for other movies that towed this sub genre. It opens in a court house, where an 18 year old boy is on trial for the murder of his father, the judge places the outcome on the hands of 12 angry jurors, they are locked in a steamy jury room, where a single non guilty vote throws the whole case out of whack bringing morality, resentment, systemic racism, mercy, pride and prejudice to bare.

In an era where the knowledge of vfx, cgi and proper cinematographic tools are minimal at best, they had to rely on actual old school filmmaking that was in vogue in that era, black and white narrative that involved some brilliant acting and an even more impressive sequence of monologue and dialogues.
No wonder why the flick is a cult classic. One of the best movies ever made.

I can't recommend enough.

9/10.

Yes. I'm sure you know that Avatar way of the Water had a 200 million dollar marketing budget.

Also, Spectre had a budget of between 200 to 250 million dollars for marketing.

I'm always happy to prove you wrong.

1.) Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves --- 8.3/10

Aside from its actions, fantasy, comedy and magical theme, the detailed backstories of various characters made the movie a beauty to see. Michelle Rodriguez was the MVP I gotta say, her character to me was the charm of the movie --- brute and somewhat sarcastic but intriguing personality.

It's sad the movie flopped at the box office, but I wish, pray and hope that Paramount Pictures capitalize on its positive critical reception and story potential to give us a sequel, or if they don't want that, a Paramount + sequel series would be nice. It's unfair to deprive the world of such amazing content and would be franchise.

2.) About My Father --- 8/10

Robert Di Nero really did a number on this one. I can't believe I was just smiling like a teenage girl asked to prom by her crush 😂. That man is a goat and the GOAT 😏🙃. Seriously, he was and is the movie.

3.) God Is A Bullet --- 8.5/ 10

A simple yet attention capturing movie about malevolence, child grooming, abduction, fatherly love, self discovery and vengeance.

4.) Joy Ride --- 6.5/10

A messy, adventurous and pseudo comic --- its comedy theme wasn't impressive --- but watchable movie about friendship, growth and family.

You're still not saying anything meaningful as always. Dropping one or two handful movies means shït when it ain't the norm.

I'm not even going to need to search the internet up till 2015 to get a list of films with $100-150mn budget. Only 2023 movies alone, I can drop up to 10.

You can keep deluding yourself you did something there.

Where did you get Spectre with a $200+mn marketing budget? A movie Sony was getting angry about its increasing crazy production budget. They now spent almost the same amount for marketing?? You must live in an alternate universe. Or you most likely don't know the difference between production and marketing budget.
