I will not advise you to sell your property because of a tourist visa. That five years you see on the visa, they don't expect you to use it once. They expect you to come for tourist maybe few months, go back to your country and come back again till it will finish.

most countries don't allow working on a tourist visa, this is a risky move! In the USA, a tourist/B1B2 Holder can't interact with most social amenities while a student can easily integrate.

let me talk from a little travel agent experience I have. With a tourist visa you are not entitle to work legally and if u eventually get to a job it will be menial job like dish washer etc but if you're caught working by immigration officers u can be deported for that. That does not mean u can't make it with tourist visa if u know ur way cos the longer u stay there the more u will find ur way but on paper u are not entitle to work as a tourist on tourist visa.

Please beg him to rethink it . I witnessed two brothers quarell over this on Friday . The elder brother is a dual Nigeria/Canadian citizen and the younger brother works at a bank in Abuja. The younger brother hid his plans to move to Canada from the senior brother. He arrived on a visit visa 2 months ago and has now been kicked out of from where he was staying. No employer is willing to interview him because he fails the “do you have a permission to work” question.
The senior brother told him to sort himself out because he hid his plans from him. He probably needs to look for jobs that will pay him in cash

Please, don't sell your house just to get a visitor visa. Visitor visa can't you a job offer. You can't work with a visitor visa; you can only visit Canada and go back to your country. You can apply for admission and subsequently apply for a study permit. Only 2 in 20 people get jobs that are willing to sponsor your work visa.

Tell him to try to raise fund from friends and relatives with promise to pay interest on the money borrowed and if that is not enough let him take loan from bank for the balance needed and use his house as collateral rather than selling the house outrightly, using the house as collateral for loan gives him a share in the house at list for the next one year.

Selling a landed property is never a good idea while attempting to relocate. What kind of house does he even have that costs N1.8m? That's less than a single year rent in some places. Not a poultry, right?

If your friend wants to migrate and work, let him get a work visa.

If he goes through the tourist visa route, he'll be stuck with menial jobs and be continuously evading the authorities. Canada is a bit ruthless with illegal immigrants as it has a very liberal immigration program that encompasses all types of migrants.
