The bolded part renders your argument legless! I addressed this issue with another Igbo-hating who was also trying to use those appointments, by the Prime Minister of the time, as an excuse for the wicked, vindictive and hateful actions of Tinubu today! Being a ceremonial president, Zik had no appointive powers to the positions in question! At best he could recommend names, and it was the prerogative of the PM to either accept or reject them! Remember the PM then was a northern muslim and he was the one running gov't at the time, so why are you trying to heap ALL the 'blame' for appointments of pioneer VCs to UNILAG and University of Ibadan. Do you have any particular issue with the way Professor Dike ran UI....or is your grouse based on the fact that he's Igbo? I and most neutrals reading this doubt we'd be having this conversation had it been white men from the UK were pioneer VCs of both universities. Had it been the first republic wasn't truncated by that senseless coup, i'm sure that by now a number of Yoruba Profs and those of other ethnicities would have been VCs of UNN and Nigeria would have been the better for it!
