As funny and ironic as it sounds. . . .Buhari actually banned Twitter to promote free speech. Buhari didn't ban Twitter to clampdown on criticisms nor opposition.

You know what preceded the suspension of Twitter then right?

Twitter under Jack was badly run. It wasn't about rules but about political leanings.
Crack cocaine is the only explanation.

....current situations in the country too dey sweet liveLongNprospa. Dude can't wait till even after a year to start dishing out - I told you so.

I am 100% certain prosperity is close, and Nigeria will be great again. This is simply a rough and tough patch we all need to endure for a while.
Nigeria CANNOT prosper. The signs are too clear lool. The fundamentals are not there, this is not even about who the President is or whatever.

But I personally won't stop anyone from remaining optimistic.

In your own opinion, why did Buhari ban Twitter?

I want to see how you twist your way out of this.

DontBullshitMe:
Exactly. Deleting Buhari's tweet was gagging him so him suspending Twitter in response is a demonstration of his commitment to freedom of speech.

It sounds funny I know.

For example, take Trump's suspension on Twitter. If the US govt takes any action against Twitter because of it, then they are defending free Speech. I hope you get my point? I am not defending Buhari here oh.
Senior brother, i no understand u. Twiter just like nairaland have their rules & regulation.

He broke their rules with his tweet.
If it's now, what you'd get is community notes if it's a viral tweet of which a tweet that's aimed at a certain group of people in negative light and it gets mass reported is taken down.

Free Speech is Free Speech. Nothing like rules and regulations (arbitrarily enforced by CEOs).

So, who decides rules and regulations? The CEO who most times has his biases and business interests?

Infact, there is no way there can be a universal agreement on "rules and regulations" guarding free Speech. So, if a President tweets something, it is supposed to be "legal" by that Country's constitution and standards. If a Tech CEO then gags him, he is anti - free Speech TBH.

I don't like Buhari I swear but banning Twitter is him defending Free Speech. I swear it is crazy, I know.

This was El-Rufai making accusations that GEJ was paying Boko Haram to bomb and kill Northerners.

It's always funny when Cornvicts try to play the victim. There's nothing they can accuse Obidients of that APC didn't do *10. Imagine how bad things must have been for elected officials to think it was okay to say stuffs like this because of elections...now imagine what their online vuvuzelas with nothing to lose would have been saying grin grin grin.

APC's luck was that GEJ wasn't vindictive or ready to use power recklessly.
The question now remain, why didn't GEJ sue El Rufai? It's that simple a question.

If accusations were made against the person of GEJ, it is up to him to sue if he finds the accusations malicious and denting on his image and personality. If he didn't sue, and Fashola did, I wonder why beings like you are ranting allover the place, as if you were the ones who they leveled accusations against. Tssk

That's where you are missing it.

If Nairaland deletes a post that does not break any Nigeria's law, then Nairaland is not a free Speech platform.

So, if the CEO of a company makes a post that does not contravene Nigeria's law and it was taken down by Nairaland. He then withdraws his advertisement placement from Nairaland, his action is a defense of Free Speech.

Because like I said above : Free Speech CAN BE LIMITED based on a country's legislation (which I don't personally agree with anyway).

For me, I believe Free Speech is Free Speech. No "Ifs" or "Buts".

Use 10m dey alright
The options are endless. The 50m invested in a long term 10 year bond at a conservative 12% interest rate will give you 165m when you liquidate it while you continue doing whatever gave you the 50m in the first place.

Eurobonds is another good idea to hedge against inflation.

God forbid I use 50m to japa

Fashola is well within his rights to sue for whatever he deems defamatory, but using the states intelligence agencies to run some hatchet kidnapping job is an abuse of power.

as long as you don't earn in FX, it's not sustainable. whatever you think you are getting depreciates daily and may very well evaporate before your very eyes.
I remember a transaction of $230k exchanged for that #50m less than 10 years ago. same property will require less than $60k if were today while a whooping $170k is saved.
even as an investor, if you try to sell it off now at #100m, did you really make a profit? you need to sell at around #215m to maybe break even after ten years. that's silly business.
most brokers in Ikoyi and VI never price their business in naira.
think about it.

That's exactly my point.

Jack didn't come to Nigeria's court to determine if Buhari's post broke Nigeria's law before he deleted it.

See ehn, you are looking at this thing with bias. Hard to be objective when Buhari is involved I know. And I am not even disputing the fact that there was also the "ego" angle but overall his decision was a defense of free Speech.

This is where Trump hailed him because he saw Buhari as the defender of Free Speech :

This analogy is weak, probably off point entirely.

The only thing Buhari could have done that might make sense is delete his Twitter account in protest, and move his communication to platforms he believes allow for free speech.

Denying millions of Nigerians access to Twitter because one of his tweets got deleted was plain ridiculous.
