If at this stage, as a graduate of philosophy and you are asking us what course you should do for your masters, then you shouldn't even have any business doing master, because I'm not sure you have a lay out plan for your career...

Or you just want to do it, so that people can say you are a masters holder

It better to use the money to start business and see how it grows in 1-2years time...

No offence, I'm just being blunt

Do Nigerian universities discontinue courses that has outlived it relevance? Universities world over do cost-benefits analysis on discipline and will discontinue it if such course can't support itself. Most universities are doing away with Arts and liberal studies, foreign languages are mostly minor now and only few school will offer languages as a full degree. Our world is changing and any course that does not offer specific skill put you at disadvantage. Imagine someone studying Russian language for four whole years. Even Russians does not study their language and why would a Nigerian think he has a shot a better life studying such language?

You don't need to go for a master's. With your philosophy degree, you can opt for HR roles. Register for CIPM to get started. If you are good at numbers, enter accounting and begin by registering for ICAN. Don't do any masters in that field. Go for RELEVANT professional certifications.

Be good at aptitude tests/job tests when called upon. That is the biggest hurdle in getting a relatively good job in Nigeria, and I think, globally.

It does has plenty of market value.

It shows to any sensible employer that you are an objective, critical thinker and problem solver...therefore you are highly ikely to be a good leader and take well thought out decisions after considering the likely outcomes of each decision you make.

That is a solid foundation to build upon if you were indeed studious when you were in school.

Nevertheless there are professional courses that you must train and be certified in to enhance your chances at thriving in the market place.

Examples of such courses are:

Manual QA testing.
Quality Assurance
Project Management
Agile Scrum Master
Data Analysis
Copy Writing
Digital Marketing

Among many others that you could be a good fit for. Also think Global and don't restrict your job search to Nigeria.

No offense should be taken because you said the reality. Masters degree without plans achieve nothing. Why invest time and money in a master's degree and after graduation, you end up from where you begin? OP need to do a soul search and decide what he/she actually wants to do. More degree without a game plan is paper stacking cos there are people with masters degree without a job.

Do courses like personnel management or Human resources management, while doing your master, also enroll for professional exam (CIPM) on personnel management, it will help you become HRM, I have seen many big HR that studied Philosophy in their first degree.

It has great value but I can understand where you 're coming from. I studied the same course but I have gone on to have a decent career in Finance and I can tell you what? What's taken me this far is my grounding in Philosophy. Everything about this life is logic...quote me! I don't know so much about Nigeria but If you 're abroad and disenchanted with Philosophy, I will not advise you to do any masters. Go for +2 Nursing, Physiotherapy or Social Works etc...however old you re, though younger the better! My route was +2 Finance and Accounting but this is just me...I always wanted to dive into Finance. If you fancy Finance and ready to put in the hard work, then do what I did. You know what, there's so much opportunities in Finance and Accounting as people ain't keen to go there at all. Don't be deterred, there're many options for you...loads in Business Intelligence and Analytics for a start. DM for a chat if you want.

Same here. I studied Philosophy too at OAU.

Today, I manage Medical facilities because of my managerial skills and experience.

Forget about job security when you are not lecturing or self employed. In this country, you have to be practical for you to survive. Critical and rigorous philosophical reasoning is counterproductive in Nigeria. Either you have some practical skills or you join the bandwagon of those unemployed graduates who now depend on Okada/Marwa Tricycle income to make ends meet, you may end up being able to cater for your needs.

Philosophy as a discipline can only empowered your thinking faculty which is not useful to Nigerians because we do not value critical reasoning.

Best bet is to go for Managerial Psychology, MBA, Forensic and Criminology, Cinematography, Information Management courses at the Masters level if you want to make a difference in your life.

The funny thing is that we need philosophy badly in Nigeria but we are not aware
boko haram is a philosophical issue.
suicide (which is now common) has philosphical undertones. What is happiness? Why did God bring me into the world to suffer
Sexual liberality and the fall of marriage and the rise of single mothers.
Even big brother Africa is a philosophical movement
in a religious society such as ours we badly need philosophy.
e.g we believe in money rituals. is it superstition or what??
What is education? why do we go to school? what is God? what is African culture?
why are we backward? why do we have bad leaders?... and many more
philosophy answers and solves many problems.
but we are not aware of it
