raumdeuter:Yes.the se peeps are usually loud, ceremonious, ubiquitous, love showing off and making their presence felt making it look as if they are so numerous.two of them in an area can make you think they are up to 50 there.but the yorubas and other tribes usually go low key, operate under the radar and you won't notice them except you go closer.when you do,you find out that they are more than igbos in a given area |

garfield1:When I was in NYSC I was complaining to one of my Yoruba corper friends about how dirty one of my student is and speaking in Yoruba, That was how one of my Students replied me in Yoruba. I was shocked, I now asked how he understood Yoruba, He told me he is Yoruba from Ogbomosho. I asked why does his name not reflect and he told me that the whole family changed their names into 2 Christian name e.g John Abraham or Maria Adamu and adopted Plateau, Kaduna, Bauchi as their state Most Ibos have an identity or something they do in common e.g they will attend Catholic church, They will stay together in SabonGari, they will have their town union, they will travel home in Xmas whereas Yoruba's will have blended into Mosque ECWA COCIN or Baptist church with Hausas and be speaking Hausa, rarely visit home, During June 12 when many Yoruba's fled North you will see people over 30yrs over 40yrs come to SW and say My father told me that our family house is in front of a Oak tree. They don't visit home |

Before jigawa and one othe state was carved out of Kano state,Kano was said to be 10m in population. But today after the removal of those state from Kano, the population still remains 10m!!!!! It is still more populated than Lagos state. |

garfield1:Yorubas in the north are not up to 4 million. Yorubas in the north may just be around 2 million. Igbos in the north will be closer to 10 million. Igbos in the SW will also be closer to 10 million. In Lagos alone, Igbos may be more than 6 million. |

ImmaculateJOE:And I should believe you because I don't know the road that leads to Adamawa? You can believe whatever nonsense that makes you sleep well at night. I've been to all the major settlements in the North. For every Igbo person in the North, there's at least, an equal number of Yoruba person. There are many Yoruba people in the North that you can't even differentiate from the indigenes. That your people are mostly seen in markets doesn't make you more in numbers. You for talk say Yoruba people no reach 2k for Adamawa na. Even in my Mom's family alone, we have more than 20 people living in Jimeta alone. I'm married to someone in So'o in Adamawa state, just so you know you're not talking to someone who taking his information just from the internet. |

| Re: Subjective Population Of The Three Major Ethnicities by lawani(m): 4:12pm On Aug 28, 2023 |
When Nigeria was founded, eighty percent of cities were on Yoruba land and others were villages and we still have Yoruba villages as well. Anywhere there is real census in the North like in the universities, you find more Yoruba. The largest union in ABU was Ondo state union. If you go to Unijos, Futminna, unimaid etc you find more Yoruba. Igbos have their trade in markets and Yoruba men are more of artisans and they also trade. Where then are you going to have more Igbo than Yoruba in any Nigerian city? Even PH if not counting Ikwerre. Ladoke Akintola, Bola Ige, first Miss Nigeria and many others were born in the North. Therefore Yoruba are more than Igbos in the North and people should stop scaring Igbos. Hausas control the trade in onions, cattle, pepper, beans etc. Are those small trades?. Are they less profitable than Igbo trades. So everybody have what they control. When Nigeria breaks up then everybody will see as each new nation will come up with real data. Yoruba land without affiliates is containing up to 70 million people presently. ,20 million in Lagos, 50 million in other SW and over ,5 million in Kwara, Kogi, Niger leaving out lands in Delta and Edo state. Everybody in Yoruba land is counted as Yoruba to account for the Yoruba in diaspora who outnumber them by far. In the SE alone is over two million Yoruba including civil servants, oil workers, taxi drivers, agbo sellers, tailors, bricklayers and etc. They are not less than two million and SS can be up to double while North will be more than the sum of SS and SE by far. So it is who you have on your land that will be counted for you before the struggle for people begin. It will then become obvious that Yoruba are the number one group in West Africa or Aftica. I am not yet adding Bariba territory that will definitely join the Yoruba country and you can be sure that Southern Kaduna will be sovereign not to talk of Kanuri, Tiv Berom and etc as they have people on their lands surpassing many sovereign nations. Only Ethiopia will be able to contend with a Yoruba country in population. |
| Re: Subjective Population Of The Three Major Ethnicities by lawani(m): 8:16pm On Aug 29, 2023 |
mandarin:I agree withost if your submission but there is practically no wholly Fulani enclave in Nigeria maybe Gombe to an extent and you have to count them with the Hausa. Only the Bororo who are cattle rearers are distinct and we have Yoruba among them who have nowhere else to call home. The total number of Bororo in the country is negligible. Maximum is one hundred thousand if uo to that. So it is the rulers of the Sokoto caliphate you will count and they are Hausas. There is nothing like a separate Fulani identity from Hausa in reality. I can not say that Christians will outnumber Muslims in Nigeria as it is more like 50/50. Yoruba is almost exactly 50/50. Hausa is almost 100 percent Muslim while Igbo is almost 100 percent Christian. It cancels out at that point. Kaduna most probably is slightly majority Christian. Adamawa might be majority Christian like Kaduna. Benue is almost 100 percent Christian. Taraba, Plateau too and the rest in the North are majority Muslims. Adamawa and Kaduna are debatable but it will be close. In the South south, only a place like Auchi can be said to have a substantial Muslim population and the rest are Christians. If you are counting the cities, it will be Lagos Ibadan Kano Kaduna Benin Ogbomosho Zaria Port Harcourt Maiduguri Jos Enugu/Ilorin/Onitsha/Ilesa/Ile Ife/Akure/Calabar/Warri/,Aba/Abakaliki/Owerri/Okene/Lokoja/Oyo/Iwo/Ede/Ila/Ado Ekiti/Umuahia/Sokoto/Katsina/Yola So if you check all those cities by yourself by indigenes and residents, it will be hard to say that Christians or Muslims are larger in population than each other in Nigeria but official population figures are definitely wrong. I think SW, SS, NW, NC, NE and SE is the descending order of population size It is something around 50/50. In the North, only the NC will be split between the two religions and the largest ethnicity in the NC are the Yoruba then maybe the Igala, Tiv, Idoma etc Yoruba and Igala are split while Tiv and Idoma are Christians and the groups in Plateau like the Berom are Christians, so NC will have a slightly more Christian population. So it is very close indeed and I will not stake money either way |

lawani:there are no 50 million in other parts of the west. Ondo and Osun are not more than 5.million each and that’s a stretch. Ekiti would not be more than three million. Oyo cannot be more than 8 million. Ogun should be around that mark. The entire population of south west would be at most 50 Million. |

lawani:you pitting Yoruba and Igala above Tiv shows you don’t have an idea of the composition of the people in the north central. Tivs are the largest group in the north central follow by Yorubas because of their presence in Kwara and Kogi obviously then Igala |
