By Ebenezer Mabinuola

A few days ago, popular Nigerian Lawyer, Femi Falana was invited to Sunrisedaily, a news and current affairs programme of Channels TV.

He was interviewed by Chamberlain Usoh and Maupe Ogun-Yusuf who expressed shock at the revelation.

In the short clispe, He said: "Just yesterday, a friend was asking me….

How can this government appoint Dele Alake as Minister of solid minerals instead of information

Do you know the implication that annually 9billion dollars worth of gold is illegally taken out of Nigeria according to a former minister Dr.Ogah through private jets?

You can google it. I am not talking about lithium or other mineral resources..

I just handled a case in Osun.

Under our minerals acts, if you are mining gold or sold minerals in my land, what does the law provide? 100 naira per acre. An old law!

You are moving me out of my land, I am a farmer. This is where I farm but you said no, get out of the place. The government has taken over your land. We will pay you a 100 naira.

They were going to pay our client 150,000 naira.

The client came to us and said what are we going to do?

We went to court; federal high court Osogbo

The other lawyer said this is what the law provides. We said no….

Section (44)1 of the constitution says: If you take over my land for public purpose, I will be paid a fair and just compensation.

The Judge awarded 250 million naira to our client.

You know what I discovered unfortunately after the case and fortunately for the company, we discovered that in 5 years, that company will make a profit of 500 million dollars. No tax. Do you run a country that way and you are taxing the poor….tighten your belt."

I still don't understand why we don't have Nigeria National Gold Corporation, NNGC, headed by a southerner, just as we have NNPC.

In the past 15 months to June this year, Nigeria has made N78 billion from gold according to the NBS. That is not inclusive of the illegally mined and sold gold that Egbon Falana mentioned oo! So why is Nigeria so broke? because the money gets frittered away into private pockets while the people are all concentrating on crude oil! It will take 50 yrs of the PDP to match the damage this party has done in 8 yrs! undecided

This is another wicked the North has been cheating this nation. Their natural resources only belongs to them. The uncoverd Zamfara gold mines responsible for banditry and terrorism are classical cases.

The figure is impossible.
Even SA does not earn that amount from Gold mining.

Also, this activist should stop being lazy.
The so-called "illegal" gold mines in Nigeria are licensed by the government.
Instead of them to focus on whether the license owner are paying the required
fees and taxes, Nigeria media choose fake news instead.

The 78 billion is in naira not dollars.

For Nigeria to make huge figures in dollars into government coffers, the industry must be well regulated
