I have argued that the problem with Nigeria lies with the Yoruba. They are the ones who “broadcast” false narratives. They controlled the media space then and used it effectively to spread the falsehood against Igbo which has taken a life of its own today.

Everybody read newspapers in those days, and they belonged mostly to our South West brothers. They controlled the press machine on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, and they are the people who should put out the fire they started.

But I'm not hopeful, to the contrary. The Yoruba need a “special anointing” to free themselves from hatred and “small thinking”.

It is unfortunate that all the churches their sons have founded have done nothing to stem the tide, but I am indeed happy to learn that those among them who are resistant to change have now been confined to the fringes of societal advancement by the moderate and reasonable Yoruba brethren. The McOluomo's are no longer the toast of Fuji praise singers, isn't God great?.

The recalcitrant troublemakers are with Tinubu, while the moderate brothers are largely Obidients as adduced from the true Lagos presidential election result. That's a great consolation. A great win for Nigeria and Nigerians.

Nzeogwu is not an Igbo man. Aniocha is not igbo. You can actually see people's stupidity and hatred right through their eyes. They don't hide it when it comes to Igbos.

But no matter what, igbos are still not the ones suffering in this country

Aniocha is a local government, not at ethnic group

Those you mentioned didn't sit down together with Nzeogwu to plan the coup. They were invited after the real coup has been planned. They never told them there was going to be a coup where both northern & premier leader would killed & eastern premier would not be killed!

There's no way you would tell a northern soldier then that you're planning on killing Sardauna and he would agree..

There's no way you would tell a southern solders then that you're planning to kill Akintola and would agree..

So they didn't tell them the real agenda. They only lied to them that it was about hosting out bad governance. Both Akintola, Sarduana are one of the best leaders Nigerian ever had, so I wondered where the bad governance was!

Akintola was the premier of the west and the west never complained about bad governance. Sarduana was the premier of the north and north didn't complain of bad governance... So Wetin con concern eastern man if not that there's more to it?

After they killed the 2 premier leaders, they grabbed power! Then they scrapped Nigeria regionalism. Why did Igbos scrapped Nigeria regionalism? It was cuz they wanted to be controlling the whole country resources from the centre. They had believed they would use power for a long time. Unknown to them, ironsi was killed and their planned perished!

Nah Wetin make Ojukwu start to dey think Biafra! To Ojukwu, if Igbos won’t be the ones to control the Nigeria from the center, then we rather go! If Ironsi wasn't killed and igbos didn't go out of power, Ojukwu won't go Biafra way!
I seem to agree with u, if this is not correct, then I need to revisit history! thanks for this insight!

Yes I read too that he was in Kano, and you are right about Igbos being the most educated. The wicked europeans use the same formulae across all African nations, while leaving they left power for the less qualified, less intelligent leaders or group of people. Go read about Rwanda, Gabon, etc. why choose tafawa balewa where you have Nnamdi Azikiwe, though I personally dont rate any of them as good leaders but we know who is better than who

Oga,stop hiding behind a finger!

List the names of the victims of the coup and their region of origin.

Those that retaliated and decimated the ranks of Igbo officers had no cogent reasons, abi?

Till date,Igbos have not recovered from that terrible mistake. Do not try to rewrite history so that others will not make same mistake.

That coup precipitated the deaths of millions in the civil war.

udede:
mention one Igbo officer, you can even Google the list, fact is that there is nobody in the coup that is from any core igbo state. Nobody. Its just pure hatred for the igbos.

After reading through the arguements from both sides, we can agree that:
1. Nigeria was not meant to bo one nation, the europeans who joined us together back in their continent, they stay independent of each other go see how small they are in terms of land and population, even if they share similar tradition, they refuse to come together as a nation/country e.g spain, Austria, germany, yugoslavia etc. but when they come to come to Africa they forcefully join a people with different culture and belief system just because of access to resources and trade routes.
2. They purposely cause the division by leaving government in the hands of the less competent and highly curropt leaders, then go back to their country and talk about how Africans cannot govern themselves because of civil wars and coups, they use this same method in all the countries they ever ruled.
3. They installed democrazy knowing fully well it will never work under a corrupt and less developed people like Africans, but they return to their place to practice monarchy system and use democracy for administrative purposes.

My verdict is that Nigeria should disintegrate and return to our various traditional monarchy system then use democracy for administrative governance, if any part of Nigeria wishes to integrate it must be done through well informed general concession. Look at how Asia adopt what suits, their culture and grow at their own pace, this is what African countries should do.

See Full List Of 1966 Coup Plotters And Their Tribe.

It is often said that lies told over and over again without being counted tends to come to be held as true; but as always, truth always catches up with it.

For over 50 years, some section of Nigerians have made it a point of duty to reinforce the narrative that the 1966 coup was an Igbo coup because it was led by Kaduna Nzeogwu, an Igbo man.

Even though these same people claim that Nzeogwu’s village and town is not Igboland, and that the rest of Nzeogwu’s kinsmen are not Igbos; a narrative they vigorously and fiercely pursue and has reinforced for decades.

But with their monopoly on the media now beginning to wane due to the advent of Social Media, their control of narrative of events, which they have often distorted to suit their primordial biases, is fading , and a more balanced narrative that captures the wholistic happenings of what transpired is now being told.

So, in regards to the 1966 coup which these elements have hitherto painted as an Igbo coup, continually giving only the names of the 7 Igbo officers who participated in the ill fated coup while leaving out other officers from other tribes who equally participated actively in the coup.

So, fined here the full list of the coup plotters and their tribes:-

1. Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu(Igbo)
2. Major Adewale Ademoyega (Yoruba) author of "Why we struck"
3. Capt. G. Adeleke(Yoruba)
4. Maj. Ifeajuna(Igbo)
5. Lt. Fola Oyewole(Yoruba) author of "The reluctant rebel"
6. Lt. R. Egbiko(Esan)
7. Lt. Tijani Katsina(Hausa/Fulani)
8. Lt. O. Olafemiyan(Yoruba)
9. Capt. Gibson Jalo(Bali)
10. Capt. Swanton(Middle Belt)
11. Lt. Hope Harris Eghagha (Urhobo)
12. Lt. Dag Warribor(Ijaw)
13. 2nd Lt. Saleh Dambo(Hausa)
14. 2nd Lt. John Atom Kpera (Tiv).

There you have it. But I’m sure that apart from Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna, you probably never heard of the names of the other guys and the question is why? And it is because some elements deliberately chose to tell a one sided story to further their ill agenda against a particular tribe and people; and after over 50 years the war ended, this same people are still hellbent on selling this same old and erroneous and fallacious narrative for the same primordial agenda.

So, I ask you, having seen the full list of the coup plotters, do you still think it was an Igbo coup?

And if your answer to the above question is “Yes”.

Then tell us why Murtala Muhammed and Buhari coups were not Fulani coups,

Tell us why Buka Suka Dimka coup was not a Plateau coup,

Tell us IBB coup was not an Hausa coup,

Tell us why Gideon Orkar’s coup was not a Tiv coup,

Tell us why Abacha coup was not a Kanuri coup,

And only the one led by Nzeogwu was given that ethnic label and reinforced till today.

You must be dumb think a list of names less than 20 will misled people from Facts

the 1st coup was happened at the time Igbos were high ranking officiers in the military ...

the Coup was orchestrated and led by Nzeogwu, the mission of to kill all promient leaders from the 3 major tribe, but it turns out only IGBO promient leaders escaped death aftermath of the coup ... cheesy why ??

IF the coup is not IGBO agenda, then what is Awolowo offence ? or why do they hate him so much ?
IF the coup is not IGBO oriented, who else was asking for secession at that time ?

Events preceeds "documentation or history" ... people that witness the civil war are still Alive, how many have being able to discredit the story
the coup led to the 1967- 70 civil war and guess what wikepedia branded the 1st civil war

I'm have a thinking state, no one can lure me against my heritage

Many of the pro Obi voices of igbo extraction were actually fierce critics of the man's governorship performance. Now, because he's in a contest with Nigerians from other tribes they claim he's the best.

Interestingly I voted Obi because of Tinubu's many foibles on the campaign trail, the bulabas and agbado comments and sincerely wished Obi would win. I started regretting my stance on the dry day of the elections. Obi was in the lead and igbos started chest beating, I couldn't believe it. Their usual expression of derision and disrespect were deployed in full force because they actually thought their tribesman would win. I felt stewpid, I genuinely fooolishly thought it was truly about competence and propriety over tribe but they brought me to a rude reality.

Never again.

The igbo philosophy is about selfish dominance, they do not understand that differences do not necessarily mean superiority or inferiority. They lack regard and readily disrespect those they perceive themselves better than, and that is the source of their problem in Nigeria.

They think they are superior and thus should be king over all other Nigerian tribes and cultures. As such they are frustrated when they are constantly spanked by yorubas and fulanis. That's why every 4 years they throw their hat in the ring of elections thinking their victory is assured only to get roundly defeated because of their wrong calculations and then the cry for Biafra till another election cycle comes around.

These people lack self awareness and eschew accountability and would rather blame others for their personal failings. They expect other tribes to worship them while they cast aspersions on these same tribes. Of course, it comes from a place of false superiority.

I could go on and on but I have things to do. They will wail till Jesus comes because they seem determined to not have sense

Several coups have happened

It’s about who led the soldiers into Ahmadu Bello’s house and shot him and his wife when there was no resistance or need to

It was about the first Nigerian British trained officer of the Nigerian army Brig Gen Maimalari who was killed by his Igbo chief of staff who he took and cherished as his favored boy Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna

It was about how they shot Tafawa Balewa and threw his body away like a rag doll

That was Nzeogu’s sin.

Then Nzeogu came on air and bragged about it. The Hausa-Fulani political system has not forgiven him or igbo’s since

They suspected it was an Igbo plot within a plot that wiped out the top Hausa leaders. But to be sure they asked Gen Ironsi, when he took over, to deal with all the boys who took part in the coup. He spared the boys. That was why when General TY Danjuma led the revenge coup, they listed the reason, exactly as to how northerners were specifically targeted and he Ironsi was complicit, before he was taken away. You know the rest.

The North has done several coups but they’ve not killed Awolowo or Azikiwe during those times or targeted one ethnic group’s leaders and killed them off

Don’t try to rewrite history
It’s already written itself
The way forward is how to heal and pave a prosperous path for all
