while yorubas concentrate on just 4 places (Lagos, UK, U.S and Canada), igbos are more widespread and can be found in large numbers in both these mentioned 4 places and other places such as China or even Kenya
Yea my dear, they are highly concentrated in Asian prisons to be specific grin
Asian wouldn’t have experienced waves of development if our Igbo brothers have not been going there.

I remember the below thread where some people opined that Yoruba are not the largest Nigeria tribe in the USA. On this thread, we reiterated time and time and time that Yorubas are by far the largest group of Nigerians in USA, UK, and Canada based on available data from the government of those countries.

This new decision by the state of Maryland validate this fact.

70% of those people are igbos claiming Lagos... publish there names

Of it is maryland, forget. Yoruba own 50% of Maryland, the other 50% the rest of the world

And this is no exaggeration
This is actually a fact cos I have families in Maryland and they always tell me how large the number of Yorubas are in that state. Probably the highest concentration of Yorubas are in the state of Maryland in the USA....

Don’t mind those one.

I remember few years ago where they delude themselves that Yoruba are more in UK and Igbo are more in USA.
It is a fact, you're the one deluding yourself. Igbos are actually more in the US than the Yorubas. Unlike the Yorubas, Most Igbos don't speak their language when they're outside SE, it is a shameful fact

If not for us that refuted that lies, they would have still continue to parrot that false statement. Now any Igbo guy is always careful to say Igbo are more in USA especially my friend Ofoigbo .
The state of Maryland adding Yoruba to their language is simply because of 3 things, which I will list below in no order:
(1) The Yorubas are loud, proud of their language and culture, & export it to wherever they go (I greatly admire this about them)
(2) The Nigerian musicians of Yoruba extractions are doing a great deal mixing aftobeats with Yoruba language. You've the Davidos, WizKids, Olamides, Asakes, Remas, Omalays etc selling out music venues & promoting the Yoruba language through their music. Not to talk of Burna Boy, these artists top charts in different countries.
(3)The Igbos mostly adopt the culture of their host (Which to me doesn't make sense. It is good to respect your host but be proud of your root) in a bid to blend in thereby short-changing themselves. Some even give foreign names to their kids instead of Igbo names & don't even allow them to speak their native language. To some Igbo parents, their kids must speak English at the detriment of Igbo language.

All the same, Kudos to the Yorubas, the Omoluabis for this great achievement .I am proud of how you guys speak your language wherever you're 👏👏👏

Badgers14:
Igbos are more in USA.

Adding Yoruba language to the test in Maryland doesn't validate that Yoruba have bigger population.

The difference is the way the language is spoken.. I am igbo but understand a but of Yoruba.

In igbo, not many people know all the words, say like ten naira etc or to tell time..

Over the years.. igbo have been Englishized grin

Also Yoruba parents are more quick to teach there kids yoruba but Igbos not so much.

There are many igbos in Nigeria that there kids don't speak igbo but that could be true with yoruba also but the percentage of that is higher in Igbo parents /household.

Same outside Nigeria. In London for example.. it is not rare to see an England born kid switch between yoruba and English seamlessly but it is for igbo.. you don't always see that..

That's why I say be proud of yourself, your heritage and people will respect that. I remember growing up.. I was always told I sound igbotic. grin grin but my yoruba friends were never told they sound Yorubatic.. grin

So many igbos do switch to English when communicating and thus the language is slowly dying ...

Then you need to undergo a comprehension class because what he said is the gospel truth. These things(Igbo parents speaking English & making it mandatory for their children instead of Igbo) has been on discussion in radio stations & TV in the SE over the years. The custodians of Igbo culture have been encouraging them on why the Igbos anywhere they're should be proud of their language else the Igbo language would go into extinct .

As a typical benin girl I must confess that the yoruba language is a powerful and beautiful tool for global communication.
It's my favourite language because it opens up a world of opportunities.

It is not just a Nigerian language but communities in the Caribbean, South America, and the United States also speak it.

In fact, the Yoruba culture is rich and vibrant, with a long history and a strong tradition of art, music, and storytelling.

The Yoruba language is vibes.
It's rich.
Its rich in proverbs, folktales, and oral histories.

In fact, the Yoruba culture is a fascinating tapestry of art, religion, social norms, and language.

If any sugar daddy decide to sponsor me in school again I will study yoruba language , Its global influence underscores its richness and resilience, and studying it provides invaluable insights into African cultural diversity.

I love tinubu.

Maryland's learner's permit knowledge test, and its study materials, will soon be offered in nine more languages, bringing the total for each to 17 languages.

Getting a learner's permit is the first step to getting a driver's license in the state.

The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration said it is expanding accessibility services as part of Gov. Wes Moore's focus on equity and access.

Here are the new languages offered:

—Yoruba (West Africa)
—Tagalog
—Amharic (Afro-Asiatic language)
—Arabic
—Russian
—Urdu
—Hindi
—Farsi
—Portuguese
—American Sign Language

The new language offerings were determined with U.S. Census data.

"Improving accessibility for the driver's knowledge test and study materials is critical to serve Maryland's linguistically diverse population," said Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer.

The current languages offered include English, Spanish, French, Nepali, Korean, traditional Chinese and Vietnamese.

To be honest, my brother up there is right.

In terms of reach outside the African continent, no other African language beat the Yoruba in terms of notoriety.

I am not saying Yoruba is the most spoken language in Africa based on number of people but in terms of notoriety outside the African continent, I haven’t seen one that beat Yoruba.

What contribute majorly to that is that Afro beat and high number of Yoruba people in the West.
what you are celebrating is insignificant. I can walk up to DMV on Tuesday and apply to have igbo, ijaw or Hausa added there. Translation is now digitized and it will cost me absolutely nothing
