I am pretty sure that if you give this man a job and a free plane ticket to relocate back home to Nigeria, he will turn it down.

Please tell him that it is never too late; let him come back home.

At the end of the day, a solution remains a solution, cost or not. You and sammyonal were saying something about solar not being affordable for everyone, cos it is expensive. Japa sef is more expensive, but guess what even a poor person can japa now...it just entails huge debt, but hey the end justifies the means, same with solar. You don't have to have a mega setup, you can come up with a setup that works for you.

In my house, I only have two batteries. I have been using it that way for over 5 years, I no add batteries or create any mega setup, cos it is not necessary FOR ME, and i still have light on demand since I got that inverter setup as small as it is. This year, when light was terrible at some point (heck, even till now) I decided to add solar. Oya ask me say how much. Lol. I didn't break bank, I just bought one 300w panel and hooked it to a battery, as a sort of charging station, that way at every point in time, a battery is fully charged, and when full just swap with the other so it can charge kinda like swapping bottles on a water dispenser. Is it serving me? Hell yea!
Did I break bank, Hell No! How much be my 'solar setup'? 50k pere. The only thing nepa is important for is my deep freezer, and the Inbetween light wey dem still dey give dey still do the work, and even that gan I go buy one 75w small size deep freezer like that wey I see for one of our church member house, and then I can fully say FU to Nepa if I want..lol

OT and perspective matter gan babe, esp in this emilokan times. Imagine to dey sleep inside darkness or heat in this emilokan times..Omo!!!
in 2015, a 200ah deep cycle battery was 50k. in 2017 it was 200k. no deep cycle battery will last more than 12-18 months, if you are lucky, especially if they are not stored in air conditioning. and the deep cycle battery is the lowest end of energy storage, unless you are going for actual car batteries.

you do not 'hook up' a solar panel to a battery. you need a controller. that will transfer power to the battery. you also need an inverter that will take power out of the battery. the cheapest inverter then in 2015 was the mercury modified sine wave. by 2017 it should have become 50k or more. the pure sine wave inverters out there start from 100k

it is only a person who has not operated or owned an installation that will believe these stories you are making up. more so when you will be subject to the vagaries of bad weather if your sole source of energy is the sun

on top of that you will only get power efficient equipment [fridges/freezers) if you buy recent models of fridges and freezers. not the used or repaired ones

Poco and gloriousgbola has said it all but let me just spice it up. U see that Ur set up is just child's play, u think that's what I mean by solar installation? Nah. Nah rechargeable lamp u wan charge abi which kind set up be that. We re talking about government giving Nigerians stable electricity so every body won't need to generate lights by themselves. Why re we now paying tax if ordinary electricity can't be fixed, sufferness no dey tire Una ni? Now back to japa, yeah to travel out is expensive but have it in mind that u re not going there to play cos of gbese wey dey ground, u re there to hustle Ur ass out and pay up Ur debts which Is far better if u re focus. For here light no dey go ooo, e stable die to essence of me asking some crazy questions that how do they do it, light is not a problem here, so my brother people re suffering in nigeria and the government need to come up with a plan so that people can smile and be happy. God didn't create us to come suffer but we human beings are the cause of our problems.

Soon enough they will tell us to raise our own army to tackle insecurity and call it solution. Give people light and let them manage their consumptions to match their pockets.

They always make it sound so easy on paper. Inverter AC is almost 300k for 1.5hp currently. Inverter microwave almost 100k. Inverter refrigerators nko? On top how much salary? Will you blame people for choosing to japa than installing solar? grin

chochocho without any substance. Much ado about nothing.

So because I did not mention solar charge controller, that invalidates what I have and use in my own house. You sef for mention 10yard cables and bolts and clamps.

Batteries last for 12-18months? Maybe you like cheap or used stuff. Buy good products like Quanta or fiamm, even Mercury elite/luminous gan sef, and come back to tell us if it won't last. I bought Quanta and I just changed it to Fiamm late last year after using it for good four years and e still dey here, and I will only sell it when the price of dead batteries exceed 60k. Oya argue with your keypad!

Again, wetin you no know pass wetin you know. Your eyes did not see where I said I was gonna buy a new power efficient deep freezer? That said, in your house una no get power efficient, bulbs, TV, sound system, inverter AC, fans etc abi. Well I have been using all of the aforementioned power-efficient appliances for many years now, the latest being an inverter AC, that is over 2years old, and was a waste of money at the end of the day, as I don't even use it with the inverter cos there are alternatives that are not as power hungry and I actively monitor my usage, cos what is key to me is to have electricity on demand, not to turn everything in the house on for fun.

Sole source of energy is the sun? When did I say that. I said I COULD do that if I want to. We live in the freaking tropics with boku sunlight. Even in this rainy season all I need for one battery to be fully charged from low voltage by that one panel is 8-10 hours of peak sunlight. That is achievable in less than two days with good sunlight or 2days with touch and go.

Chochocho, dey try calm down understand, rather than just argue for nothing sake. Something wey I dey use, wey no be even special thing na im this one dey argue on top. I had bought my inverter and batteries, and I only just recently added one 300w panel so I can benefit from the solar power as an alternative or to complement time of failure from the electricity grid! I sought to let peeps know that 'solar' doesn't have to cost million to own and setup with just a little planning. You can crawl, or walk even if you can't run. The Koko is to get to the destination. That is the simple point......and I still maintain even now, if you can be intentional you can have a solar setup that will serve you, and keep you comfortable and will be cheaper than fuelling a gen in these times. One solar panel, one good 200ah battery, solar charge controller (not mppt), one inverter will not cost more than 300k even today, and the battery is the most expensive item therein. Those wey go bite the bullet and think practical, can learn and do something about it. Those who will keep thinking it's when they have 5million they can use energy from the sun, no wahala. Those wey wan continue to dey fuel gen, no wahala. Those wey go move to neighborhoods or states with good electricity eg Osun state, no wahala too.

Shikena! Una rambling is like a man telling another man that getting a car is not achievable because the only car in his mind is a Prado. Therefore, if he can't have enough money to buy a Prado, he can't have a car to move around with. Meanwhile, he is just simply closed minded, as there are several cars that his budget can buy fully functional with AC and everything, yea it may not have same ground clearance or 4wd as the Prado, but still a functional car nonetheless. That is a perfect analogy of una ramblings, you are just stuck on the Prado. Smh

is it your child's play?? You don't set standards for me or anyone else. That is a blind, dumb and stupid thing to do. I live in my house and was proactive enough to take measures to ensure I have electricity on demand. My generator is in a store ffs! When power supply worsened and fuel shot up, I figured rather than bring out the gen, I'd buy a panel, and I drew up a simple inexpensive plan. Just one panel and as long as the sun shines, I have energy stored in batteries for my use for as long as I want now, even if Nepa wants to be unfortunate e no bother me again, generator remains in the store, family is comfortable and have light to do things, and you say it is a child's play?. Who died and made you an authority on standards? It just shows you don't know anything about practicality. I'm a businessman, so cutting costs and being practical yet still achieving desired outcomes is what I do everyday. It's like that suffering you suffered before leaving Nigeria is still giving you PTSD.

Silly talk, those that can't or don't want to japa should not sink borehole in their house but be waiting for Nigeria to provide them water. The water wey dem provide yesterday for their papa abi. Be living in lala land. Mtchew

I hate senseless chochocho. Go and force Tinubu to give you all electricity and make Nigeria Eldorado OR You can as well pay the flight ticket of just two people here as your contribution to japa, AS a man who doesn't do child's play. We are talking about how people who can do something to make their lives easier can actually and realistically do it without breaking bank, this one is talking stuff without heads or tails...

congrats on where you are..

Quick answer. My solar can carry my inverter AC which I don't even use on the inverter cos my mist fans do the job just fine with less energy consumed (I already said this twice but your closed mind didn't allow your eyes to see that). Even your fellow abroadarians on the UK thread are mindful of their energy and water consumption despite availability of the water and the electricity, but you don't say they are suffering or call their meticulousness child's play.

Quick question, do you iron every minute of everyday? Cos I don't. When there is light, I iron, and what's more I only iron sometimes once a month. What else? Ok to further prove that you are the typical unidirectional thinker that is clearly only problem oriented but not solution oriented, even if I go off-grid and i want ironed and steamed clothes, can't I just pay a laundry guy to do that? How many people that are the typical working class or even anyone of my status even iron their clothes themseleves, if no be say I naturally have OCD and like to do most things myself for best desired results, sotey I don turn DIY expert. Simple solution is give a laundry guy to do the ironing like most people in even present day Nigeria do. That is the so-called problem/question you could throw at me?? Smh

Once again, see how this nigga has turned a simple statement on solar setups for homes that can actually be beneficial info to someone somewhere into a Naija Vs Abroad argument.

Dem use am swear for una ni? You people say solar is virtually unachievable, and I have said and shown even using myself as an example that it is very achievable if you cut to the scale you can afford, which will still work for a good number of people. SIMPLE!
Why must everything be so hard for y'all to comprehend for God's sake?

Ok let me speak in elementary terms maybe e go enter ya head. Most people can't afford japa, but they still japa anyway. The solution? Loans like the ones you took.
Most people can't afford large complex solar setups with many panels and many batteries. The solution? No loans, just a smaller setup with more focus on prudence than extravagance, just like even you do abroad do with water and electricity. People on this same Nairaland ration the use of their heater in winter, why dem no on am all day everyday, so the whole world can know they are living the life. Switch On everything in your house every time and everyday na, ain't no one stopping you.

Can you for the love of GOD comprehend that basic and elementary point??

ogbeni no dey lie for here jooor, u dey talk I just dey read from far, I think I dont know how to setup a low budge solar panel. How many Nigerians can afford inverter not to talk of solar panels in this present Nigeria? U think say nah moi moi, people re suffering out there if u can afford it majority cant even start a low budget own by buying it bit by bit. I already told u that if u can get it easily people don't have money or funds to do it. That's why I say everything still boils down to the government. Getting a solar panel is damn expensive right now. U know how much they sell inverter batteries even if it is fairly used ones, its not as easy as u think. People never chop belle full u say make them come dey assemble low budget solar power dey play. Also if Ur Inverter can carry ur air conditioning system then that's not a low budget solar power then. I don't need to be engaging this solar power of a thing with u, my own is let the government do the needful, provide stable power supply to Nigerians it's not a rocket science nah. U do borehole urself, u generate light almost everything Urself and u think that's life, not considering other citizen that can't afford that common mehn. Me traveling to the abroad was an opportunity and I grabbed it and I will tell u that I never regretted I came here.

A 50k solar setup is not a solar setup. That is if at all it is. Which rules out your 50k solar setup. National grid remains the first solution for most Nigerians, not 50k solar that can't carry fan or refrigerator. Most people need light to do their businesses, keep their food fresh and not allow heat rashes finish their kids. A 50k solar setup cannot do all that.

So stop suggesting solar for them. A good solar setup that can imitate NEPA cost good money. Not like you buy it once and it runs for life. You guys just mention solar at every turn like we all don't know of this solar.

Yes, a good solar setup is EXPENSIVE.
The Inverter in my Lagos apartment is 450k & I don't even dare to use it for a fridge or any strong appliances to prevent it from running out quickly. Na only Laptop & fan I dey use am for. The cost for a proper solar will definitely be a lot.

Nairaland is currently in it's lying regime at the moment, people come to lie unprovoked & when you debunk it, dem go dey vex.

If there is a solar that can imitate Nepa for 50k, I will even invest in the business, purchase like 20 of it & resell. I will be rich before December.

I will even create a website for it & add shopping cart cheesy

You could have just asked her out like a man, as long as there will be food & TF, i am sure she will turn up instead of jumping like puma cat into a "conservation" you clearly had no profound understanding about.

They think solar is something new or alien that people have never considered. Any small tjing, install SOLAR. One would think they have been able to replicate it in their houses and that of their parents as it is "50k". grin

Please, ignore Adefemi Akano (Kayperry) and his numerous accounts (Chidiokay).

Now first of all let me establish one fact , I do not care about your life choices, I personally find these japa topics and the back and forth comments on it to be very amusing. So when I open topics like this it is strictly to catch cruise. Nobody is discouraging you to japa so please save that mad talk. With that being established let’s proceed with the story

Dr Peter is a very rich man in Nigeria who had a medical practice and a big house and three cars. He was doing very well. But the japa allure came knocking at his door. So he sold everything he owned and moved to Canada. This is his story. It is full of regrets. He said he has discovered the whole thing was a mirage and that in Canada they work you like a machine and you never get to enjoy your job and they take all the money back in taxes and that you can never save. His advice to Nigerians is that if you are very stable in Nigeria do not attempt the mistake he made. In going through the comments of the video are people like him with similar regret stories of selling it all and going to Canada. One commenter says he looks back at selling all his property to japa as a form of madness.

Anyway enjoy the video and let us know what you think about Dr Peter or what he had to say

Everyone has a personal perspective to these issues. Great video

Rubbish trash nonsense . I work in medical feild and leaving Nigeria was the best decision I ever made.

Today I have a clear plan to achieve my goals . Pls all those of those who have been deported and banned from entering foreign countries or those who can't afford to travel should please stop disturbing people!!.

Leave them alone , you are all like the OP are bitter and angry and want to hold others back!!

The energy you use to source these stories why not use it to source stories of people like me and my friends who are doing very well abroad

Fellow Nigerians ignore these people and focus on your plans
Thank you. Nigerians always follow the crowd. If someone fails it does not mean every it her person must fail.

1. What exactly is the rubbish? Did you have the same status as his in the medical field? One who wraps the dead is also in the medical field.

2. Only today you have a plan? Before he left he had a plan and had achieved his goal in the medical field. You don't know if you will achieve your goal.

3. Only a fool will see this as discouragement and not learn from what he said.

4. Many do ignore such people ... focus on their plans ... and when they arrive only to find out that their plans cannot be carried out.... people who don't look before they leap.

@ topic ... he made some very good points that most do not expect .... these developed societies are regimented .... programmed ... you must begin work at 8 a.m ... no excuses..... you must take a 10 minute break at 9 a.m .... do whatever you want... but must be back at work 9:10 .... then lunch .... 12:00 to 12:40 ... no excuses.
He did not do his homework before leaving Nigeria. The same mistake Nigerians make.
