Same with Peugeot, it came with built in battery lock and burglars can't even open the hood like they do with Japanese vehicle.
I don'nt know about other models but 406 I have to buy 2 batteries in one month, I wzs told it was easy for the thieves they broke that net at the front and put their hand and releazed the bonnet lock.

There is an increase rate at which car batteries are stolen. What is fueling it is the high demand and available market for them. The other day they stole my neighbor car battery and I want to know how well can one avoid this. How the thief open the bonnet? And is it possible to chain the bonnet inside?

Most of the thieves are either mechanics or pannelbeaters, they know the exact place where the bonnet cable is placed and can easily maneuver to open it without stress. The best solution is to remove the battery and take it with you inside your house, any time u want to go out with ur car, u can fix it back.

Install car alarm, the noise will alert the vehicle owner and scared them away.😁

It's mostly Toyotas that this happens with, but trust me, it's very difficult to take out the batteries of some cars like BMW, Mercedes or Audi.

I remember early 2001 thieves raided our neighbourhood back in Nigeria, and carted away several car batteries... most of the affected cars were Toyota's and Peugeot's, however we noticed only the Mercedes and BMW's in the neighbourhood were left intact... some year's later all the families in my neighbourhood either had a Mercedes 190, Mercedes V-Boot, or BMW E60.

Fast forward years later, the case is still the same.

I once had the video demonstrating it about six years ago. The man opened the bonnet from the front tire side.

So why don't they explode on cars that have their batteries in the front when there's head on head collision?
Re: How Do Thieves Open The Bonnet To Steal Battery? by Psoul(m): 10:07pm On Sep 03, 2023
Very simple. Lie down under the car directly below the radiator. Look up between your radiator and the front bumper. You'll see your bonnet catcher. Raise your hand and flip it or use short wood to flip it and it will disengage the bonnet from the hook. Then come out to finally open the bonnet.

I took m car too a panel beater who did a construction with light pan under car. He welded bolts on the pan which will be tighten or loosen only when the bonnet is open. So the underneath is sealed now.

A panel beater can construct a battery locker for you.

Thanks to the senseless policies
of the disgraced Buhari presidency,
New car batteries are from 35k upwards.

It thus a great incentive for burglars
to steal & sell for 10k immediately.

A few months back, I woke up around
3am to send some international
messages. I started hearing some clandestine
noises from outside. I reasoned this
couldn't be rats that are found of
scaling fences to come rummage through
dustbins for food. And NEPA been don
take light.

I slowly & quietly got to my window to
look outside. Low & behold I saw a burglar
using phone battery trying to open my
car bonnet❗️❗️❗️😮😮😮

Hmmm.... after reading comments seems like the common way is to get at the release cable from under the wheel well. How about cutting the cable at the lock release point ... and tying it somewhere so one pulling it will believe it is still attached? ........ then tie your own cable to the lock release and have it at a point where you can reach it from through the grill or under the car. No doubt... you can no longer open the hood from the inside. If the thief tries the cable ... then decide to break in to pull the hood release .... neither will work. Just saying.

I rushed out of my room with my
pump action, as I got to my balcony,
the guy rushed from the side of the house
where he was about opening the bonnet,
ran towards the fence, stepped on top of another and scaled the 8 feet fence ( which had razor wire on it) in one
move. He was so fast I couldn't cock and
blast off his skull.

My younger brother who came out with
me was able throw a small flower pot which
missed him.

Sadly though, we later found that he had
already removed the battery from the
car he stepped on before moving forward
to the other car which alerted me.

It's most likely he had someone outside
the fence who collected the first battery.
