One story I totally believed while growing up.

It was said that the ball changed and shifted shape from stone, to lion to fire before Sam Okwaraji managed to kick it and scored the one goal that Nigeria needed to win a match they were losing by 99-0. How hilarious it is to believe such story.

That he died after kicking the ball that changed to stone...
Today, we now know it's all chaolin soccer

Omo grin grin,i don't even know how manage somebody believed it.on top of this,i can remember when my elder sister will tell me that their basic science teacher's husband works in the sun and they once went there for excursion. The people there are yellow in complexion and also kind grin.
She went ahead to add to the collection of lies by tellling me every student in the school have a personal nanny and they return home on a floating board.
She also once told me that they went to the zoo and saw olden days people, they look like apes and they're as tall as iroko tree.childishly,i believed it completely without any iota of doubt and even went ahead to tell all my friends.

Lol

Sam Okwaraji came into the picture later. The lie predates him.

In my time, it was Thunder Balo

Yes ooo! It was Thunder balogun they told us back then, even added that there was a stake that if Nigeria could score just a goal we've won the match , so when India was leading by 99 _0 , The great thunder balogun got angry and decided to take a very long range shot not minding what the ball had turned into ,that was how we got a goal and won that match. Hmmm those bros that gave us these lamba surely have a lot to answer.

The original version was about Teslim Balogun aka Thunder Balogun and the myth about his left leg that ended up killing his only brothe as u said.
It can't be Samuel Okwaraji cos we witness his death in 1989 at the Mainbowl of the national stadium in Surulere. After his death Kolington Ayinla (old school Fuji artist) paid tribute to him in his song few years later as well as Nelson Mandela when he gained freedom from the prison after 27yrs.

There was even a Segun Odegbami version sef.

The Okparaji own was the most recent of them. I think Okparaji entered into the story in the mid 1990s.

God abeg, how indomie generation take enter my life na..πŸ˜‚?

As children in the mid 80s to mid 90s, we were raised with this story of a historical football match Nigeria played with India.

"Nigerian Legend" had it that we were losing to India by 99 goals and it was decided that if we could score just ONE goal against the Indian team, we were to be declared Champions. The spice in this recipe is that the story claimed the Indian team smuggled "voodoo-ism" into the match, so much so that the ball was turning to all manner of devious things and beasts everytime the Nigerian players touched it..πŸ˜‚.
Funny and stupid, right?
So in order to be fair to Nigerians, a lone goal was all we needed to score to win the match, and the Legendary "Samuel Okwaraji" the "Eze-bunafor" of the Nigerian team, seized an opportunity in the last minutes of the game and sacrificed himself by kicking and scoring the ball while it flamed like a ball of fire.

We won the match by 1 goal to India's 99. Samuel Okwaraji died a National hero. India got banned from anything football to this day. And even at this point where I'm narrating this story to you, I feel very foolish for having believed it in my childhood..πŸ˜‚!

Their National Sport;

Wrestling (Until 1610)
Kabaddi (Until 1924)
Hockey (1924 till Present)

Everyone thinks Cricket because they are World Champions and Control that sport worldwide through their massive finances and their sponsors.

Yes it's serious. They scored more than 100 goals against other national teams.

Even the jazz affected all the cameras in any stadium they played in, that's why you wdnt see the highlights anywhere today.
