The hatred between Yorubas and Igbos started during the time of Chief Obafemi Awolowo as Finance Minister.

No one has said that to Yorubas in SE because they are well behaved and quiet and don’t go around everywhere insulting the indigenous people of their lands unlike certain people. And let’s be honest Yorubas are not in the east in the number they are in west. Also Igbos were threatening people during this election in the east if they didn’t vote obi.

I remember that year Abiola died. We were living in GRA Ikeja. The place was an estate. I was in may be SS1. There were many kids in that estate that would play together. So I was with this Ibo boy, Larry that day. It was already announced earlier that Abiola had died. So I also mentioned it to the boy.

His reply was 'Yes, Yorubas would always disappoint'. I that was in SS1, older than this boy would never have read any meaning to his comments because I was politically naive. He should be around 7-9 years of age then. He was 5th child in the family 7. Do you know that it was after I started reading comments from Ibos towards Yorubas on Nairaland recently that the boy's comment of about 25 years ago began to ring bell to me? I mean how could a boy of about 8 years come up with such a statement?

The truth is his parents were saying similar things about Yorubas and that became his orientation. So it's no longer surprise to me what Ibos living in the east will say if a boy born and bread in a very developed place in Lagos said that 25 years ago.

It's the ibos based in the SE. As a Yoruba man that have never visited the SE, I did not really understand the hatred until I moved to the UK for higher education. OMG, you could tell the difference between the Ibo guys that moved straight from the SE and the regular Ibo guy that had lived in Lagos, Ibadan or anywhere in the SW before moving to the UK. The SWesternised ibos were liberal unlike the conservative ones that moved straight to the UK from Nigeria..

The ones usually from the SE are always angry at yorubas. They would try to avoid you or relate with you. Then they slowly start opening up when they realise Yorubas are not what they have been told back home in alaibo.

Even check the ones causing problems in Lagos now are the Nwa boys or JJC that just moved to Lagos.

Yorubas rarely have any issues with an Ibo person born and bred in the SW. They are also the ones that inter-marry.
