I understand you vividly, remember Don Corleono made alot of money from his olive oil businesses and some racketeering and loan sharking deals as well other deals, he was able to buy the loyalty of his subordinates which helped his rise to power. Power comes in all forms, but money is money. There is no distinction between hush puppy and Dangote when they go to the Rolls Royce dealer. But when you get to the embassy, the social club, the ministry, institutions, conferences, constituting boards, recognizing leaders in society, you will understand the difference between money and power.

Even a Mai guard has power and can deny you the richest of men access if he so deems and his of dubious character he can make money by granting acccess. There are offices where the secretary is very powerful, because he/she determines whether you get to see oga or not. You cannot see the president without clearance by the chief of staff. He is the gatekeeper, it doesn’t matter that the president is your friend or you have money.

The permanent secretary who decides to recommend the banning the importation of rice for example has the power to make or break multiple rich in that industry with the stroke of his pen. If you were a rich man today you can go broke tomorrow as a result or you can become an instant millionaire as a result. That is power!

That is the difference between power and money. Your money does not affect my life, what you do with power can!! Dangote’s money does not make a difference to my life, what the speaker in the house of assembly or House of Representatives does while he is there does. Dangotes money does not affect my life, Dangote’s ability to affect the price of cement or petrol in future does.

Another example is the NL.C president, the guy looks, talks and behaves like someone you see under a tree drinking ogogoro at best at a beer parkour. Yet everyday he is going in and out of ASO rock, all eyes on him, he can bring the country to its knees, one day he will get national award. Yet there are rich men many legitimate and hard working who have never been inside a governors office or ASO rock, never been invited and never will be, cannot call a governor or president and will never get national honors. Why? Because he is the president of the NLC…..that is power. If his wife annoys him tomorrow and he decides he wants aviation workers to strike, your flight is cancelled!!! Ordinarily, he is supposed to be a struggling man certainly not supposed to be wealthy but by his position and power he cannot be poor because there are legitimate and illegimate means of wealth by virtue of his power, influence and position. If he is poor it is because he has no interest in money or he squandered the money he made
