OBJ is very humble - I have seen him kneeling down to traditional rulers before - even the current Olu of Warri, a man who was born in 1984.. 5 years before he (the Olu) was born - Obasanjo; was Nigeria’s Head of State for almost 4 years - and handed over power to a civilian government (1979)

that was the height of humility - If i was in Obasanjo’s shoes I can’t do that - but he did and earned my respect forever as a very humble man!!

1. Traditional rulers are ceremonial, I say this all the time and I will say it again, they lost their kingdoms to the British. The only reason Emirs, Obas, Obi’s etc still exist in Nigeria

Please don't say what you don't know, Yoruba obas, especially first class Kings don't stand up from their seats to greet governors or president except where the Kings involves just arrive and meet them on the seat. We all know even local government chairmen are above them but we respect the thrones and subsequently the Kings. The same obj that have postrated for Kings countless time when he was in power is now telling them to stand up and gree him. The man is just being bitter or probably affected by old age.

If that was the case, those Obas would've stood up even before being reminded by arrogant OBJ.

You are letting emotional sentiments rule your reasoning. Obas, Obis, Olus, Emirates are only powerful to some extent within their domains. Outside their domains they are almost like your average citizen. If Obasanjo went to visit or pay homage to an Oba in his domain, you don't expect the Oba to stand up for Obasanjo, in fact you expect Obasanjo to prostrate for the Oba.
When an Oba leaves his domain to be attending government functions and social gatherings up and down, then they should be prepared to follow official government protocol. What are so many Yoruba Obas doing at the launching of a road or university? Do you expect the Obas to be higher in order of protocol to a former president? That's why I like Obas like Oba of Benin and Sultan of Sokoto, you will not find them in launching of bridges or social events, that I consider PR events for governors.

The British or their fore runner the Portuguese did not conquer the monarchs with superior power in the beginning. They conquered the monarchs using their greed. The conquered them with mirrors, umbrellas and hats. Later they started giving the monarchs guns to help them bring in slaves from surrounding villages. It was after the British Wall well established that the British sent troops to completely subjugate the monarchs and their peoples.
