Pu7pl3 I know what "developmental" means and that's not NXT. It's a 3rd brand, but the company still calls it developmental, so who am I to argue. That being said and done, a former world champion has no business going to developmental brand to win belts. Neither Ronaldo or Messi will return to their developmental brands for anything, when they are not insane. But this is pro-wrestling, where nothing makes sense, so we'll leave it at that.

Wrestling is all about building and elevating as much talents as you can. Becky winning that title not only solidifies her own legacy by getting the one that eluded her finally but her presence also elevated the whole environment and the other women she is going to work with.

I heard she gave nxt their highest rating in three years eclipsing even Seth title defence on the brand.
My only peeve is the timing as Tiffany Stratton had barely defended against credible challengers despite holding the title since may. Thea Hail isn't quite there yet. Kiana James was a head scratcher as a contender.

Grizzled Young veterans were one of the best tag teams from NXT UK. Zack Gibson could really hold his own on the mic drawing boos from the crowd, while James Drake was the better worker of the duo.
The strange repackaging as smiling cultists in the Dyad did em no favours. It's interesting to see where they end up. AEW is crowded atm while impact could be a good fit.

Jade is a draw based on her looks alone but the wrestling leaves much to be desired. If she ends up going to WWE then their Performance centre may help her improve but that's a long shot.

Will Ospreay not being in the top 10 is baffling considering the great year he's had. Seth being at number 1 doesn't sit right with me though.

I've heard this over and over again. If the western fans will not speak the truth, at least African fans should.
No 1, she doesn't need a useless belt to solidify a legacy. Her legacy looks good winning belts that actually matter (women world title). Cena is the greatest of all time, he's not a grandslam champ, and he's far bigger than Miz - a 2-time grandslamer. Am I making sense here?
No 2, it is literally illogical for her to win a developmental belt since she is no longer a developmental wrestler. She is an established one, and a veteran for that matter. Hope you get?
No 3, Tiffany does not need to lose to Becky in NXT to get elevated. Simply working her way up to get to the main roster and possibly eventually beating Becky up there will do the job. Plus that way she gets to do it with more than 1 million people watching. Also, it solidifies her properly as that way she actually earns it. Right now, anyone in NXT can get to face a main roster guy, and that's not fair and a good way to rate NXT guys. Tiffany has to work her way up to the main roster to prove she can earn a match with the likes of Becky, is what I'm saying. Is that simple enough?
No 4, this match and win has diminished Becky's status, even if it's a bit. She now wrestles in dev brands with dev wrestlers, for dev belts, with just 1 million people watching; instead of her wrestling for the world titles in big PPVs. This is sad.
No 5, about the ratings boost WWE fans just can't shut up about; it's a one night thing, after she's gone, they'll return back to their usual. Is that truly a win? WWE should be concerned with making long lasting wins for NXT. Decisions that will earn them long term high ratings, not a one night thing.

You're missing the point bro. They already had one before. Snobby Liverpool fan wrestlers who berate the audience before their match. They even had the mufflers to match and a catchphrase.
What Nxt did instead was a total overhaul of their gimmick.
There are good and bad gimmicks.
Everyone can't be serious badasses who don't talk and act tough. It ain't ufc and will never be to the general audience.
All they see is men in tights playing fight no matter how sports-like you want it to be.
How are diving moves performed again? You lie down and wait for someone to jump on you.
How about Irish whips? You throw someone to the ropes and he comes back at you a la looney tunes cartoon.
Wrestling involves suspension of disbelief to make it work. The performance is already a gimmick in itself

It's funny you chose to use the biggest star since the attitude era to buttress your point?
How many wrestlers are bigger than cena at this point?

You're the one advocating for a sports based show. Na still you dey say winning more titles by being a grandslam champion is meaningless. Please pick a side.

Don't Brazilian footballers who have competed at the highest level go back their domestic league?

Becky Lynch winning the nxt title is a win-win situation. She adds a championship to her list of accomplishments, while the network gains ratings.

Do you know that Nxt used to air only on the wwe network app before it began airing on a TV channel called USA network? USA network pays them millions to air Nxt show on its network.

Views drive ratings. Ratings attract brands who pay the TV channel to show their products via ads placements.

You're wailing that Becky appearing on Nxt diminishes her status but is she complaining?
It doesn't taint her legacy one bit.
She started there, it's a homecoming experience for her.
What of the NXT audience who can't travel to raw or smack down to see her compete.
What of the members of the Nxt roster who haven't had the chance to interact with her or ask her for advice?

You think it's an easy fit to have a million viewers watching a wrestling show on TV in this age of youtube and myriad of Internet streaming services.

When last did AEW hit a million viewers on Dynamite and collision despite having CM Punk, MJF, Samoa Joe, Sting etc

Have you thought about this?

There are soo many established stars doing their thing there.

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

There is no doubt about the fact that Roman Reigns is a star, and why he’s the number one guy in WWE and has been for many years now. I’m not here to question that. But I’ll be damned if there aren’t times we’re quickly reminded of what a true star looks like and Reigns isn’t quite that just yet.
I’m talking, of course, about The Rock, who returned on Friday Night SmackDown this week to a thunderous pop in Denver. They absolutely blew the roof off the place, because of course they would, because that’s one of the biggest stars in the history of the industry.
By the way, it was also a great reminder of why they really should put that match together sooner rather than later. Experiencing that response had me eager for the moment when Reigns’ theme would hit and he would come out talking about “acknowledge me.”
A license to print money.
Anyway, The Rock was a special surprise after we already got a great surprise in Pat McAfee coming down the road from where College Gameday is this week. He welcomed us to the show before Austin Theory came out to be the guy who would get clowned on by the stars everyone loves.
They clowned him in a way that must have been incredible for those in attendance but was somewhat annoying for those of us watching at home. FOX had to repeatedly cut the audio because The Rock had the entire audience calling Theory an asshole.
Hey, that’s showbiz, baby.
Or something like that.
Either way, even with the obnoxious muting, it was an incredibly fun opening segment. It also makes clear that Rock is willing to appear on WWE TV during the strike, contrary to prior rumored talk.
Speaking of that, he ran into John Cena backstage. Thankfully, we aren’t getting Thrice in a Lifetime. They hugged it out.
That was a good lead in to the main event segment of this show later in the night, with Cena appearing as the special guest on the latest episode of “The Grayson Waller Effect.”
Waller, to his credit, got in a great reference to Deion Sanders, telling Cena that his mother taught him to take his hat off when he talks to grown ups. If you know, you know kind of thing.
Waller went in on Cena not wanting to wrestle anymore, pointing how the fact that he returned and did a guest spot as a special referee instead of a match. Before Cena could protest, Jimmy Uso hit the scene.
He talked a tough game, and once again, Cena could not respond before Solo Sikoa hit the scene. He got right in Cena’s face before turning to Jimmy, grabbing him up and making like he was going to lay him out.
But it was a feint.
Instead, he superkicked Cena and the duo went about putting the boots to him. That’s when AJ Styles ran in to make the save. It’s notable that Paul Heyman ordered Sikoa to save Jimmy when he found himself in trouble here.
While on his trusty cell phone.
Considering their earlier interaction, I was expecting another Rock appearance but if they aren’t actually going to do Rock vs. Reigns just yet, it’s probably better to hold off on it. Plus, Styles has already been involved and it only makes sense to keep that going.

Your LA Knight segment of the week:
It was yet another match with The Miz in a program that has been far better than you would expect considering Miz has won like one match in over a year. He’s built for exactly these kind of feuds, though, and his job the whole way has been to get Knight over and he’s done just that.
He did it again here, giving Knight a solid match and putting him over clean after the Blunt Force Trauma.
After, Knight grabbed a microphone because of course he had to do some talking. He made clear he’s coming after a title and it really doesn’t matter who it is that’s holding it. In his list of champions, he included Roman Reigns and that got one hell of a pop.
What’s even more interesting is the fact that WWE cut backstage to show Solo Sikoa watching this and outright saying LA is becoming a problem. Heyman tossed some water on that, though, because he has to wait for Reigns to call and give the order first.
And there are a lot of other issues to deal with, especially with all the names floating around.
If nothing else, WWE wants it clear that Knight vs. Reigns is at least on the table.
YEAH!

All the rest
-AJ Styles was defeated by Finn Balor thanks to interference from Jimmy Uso, who showed up just after the rest of The Judgment Day was thrown out. Commentary presented it like it was simply Jimmy getting back at AJ for what happened last week. The match wasn’t given as much time as you might expect, considering who was involved, but the Rock return segment ran long, so that may have had something to do with it. Later, Jimmy told Balor that was simply payback for last week and now they’re square. Then, Finn went into his pitch — how about Jimmy joins up with Judgment Day, just like they hope Jey will. The best thing about the group? They don’t have a leader. Jimmy was reluctant until Balor said that, and then he just looked uneasy but not entirely resistant to the idea anymore.

-Santos Escobar took his opportunity to shoot his shot this week, telling Rey Mysterio that his dream has always been to challenge Mysterio for a championship. He has nothing but love and respect for him but he wants an opportunity. Mysterio made like he was going to get upset about it before accepting. We’ve been talking about this being where they were likely headed and they’re doing it the right way.

-And then The Suit Profits showed up to make fun of the LWO while Bobby Lashley — who got loud “Bob-by” chants — made clear they are indeed coming to fill the power vacuum. It led to Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde challenging Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford to a tag team match. That match was a glorified squash, making clear the LWO is not to be taken seriously as a group outside of its top two members but The Suit Profits absolutely are. The Profits left the entire group laid out and the fans still haven’t caught on that they are, in fact, that bad guys. Whatever works.

-Pretty Deadly were fantastic in their brief appearance here, as Adam Pearce met with them to say medical brings word they’ll be back soon. Elton Prince, in particular, was hilarious playing up his injury before Kit Wilson hyped him up for his return. That was the gist of the segment, that they’ll be back in action soon enough.

-They kept calling Asuka vs. Bayley the “main event” even though it wasn’t the last segment of the show. One of those WWE things that annoys more than it should. Dakota Kai tried to get Bayley focused for the match beforehand but it didn’t matter — she was once again distracted by Shotzi, who came out of the crowd to help assist in the win. A tentative fist bump with Asuka followed after Damage CTRL bailed to the back.
This was a great show. Tons of fun.

Grade: A-

unfortunately beliefs cannot be suspended unless the script makes sense - can I preach? We don't know much about the moves, but we can assume they can be used in real life combat, at least the submissions can. And if the guys of old who started this sport say those moves are real, then who are we to argue. Okay.
Gimmicks don't work. I'm not arguing. You, Pu7pl3 and other great minds here will realize it sooner or later. There is a reason why it's called sports entertainment; it's because half of the wrestlers personality is real, while half is fake - and intentionally made so for the show. The fake part is the entertainment character - heel & face -while the real part is the person's real life personality - just who you are. Gunther has that feel, same with Rock, Cena, Punk, and every other big name wrestler (na why I dey pity Roman Reigns, people are already getting tired of him and his "tribal chief" gimmick, at least that's a bit closer to his real life persona). The "other guys", Hit Row, Otis, and every other "not-so-successful" wrestler are the ones carrying the load of gimmicks; how coincidental. The reason why this reality is so is because the part of the wrestler's personality that should contain his/her real-life self is contained by another fake personality, coupled with the already fake personality in them (face and heel). Now you know why these guys can't connect with the crowd or make any form of success in WWE. The worst part is NXT is filled with these kind of people, the so-called future of the WWE/TKO. SMH. WWE is faaar from the truth as it stands. Maybe this new merger will make it more sports based and as a result, watchable. My sermon is over. Thank you.

John Cena is the best example, I don't understand your reservations. He's a zero-time grandslam champion and is far bigger than a 2-time one. This statement alone wins me the debate.

About Brazilian footballers returning to domestic leagues; I'm sure you're aware that it's as a result of being past their prime that they do so right? So is Becky past her prime? Can you agree to that statement on a live camera? Also - they call it 'developmental', not me - no football veteran, Brazilian or not, returns back to a developmental league. It is impossible.

Again, the championship is a liability to Becky, as a result not a win. It's an embarrassment, in simple terms (check out Bayley mocking her on Twitter).

Where would you prefer Becky, making 2 million on RAW or Smackdown, or making 1 million on NXT? You pick.
PS: The average rating for NXT that week was 800k +, the 1m was strictly for Becky's match. Now she's burning talent on dev brands, something that should be using on bigger shows, networks and PPVs. Hope I'm making sense?

Again, 800k + isn't real view, because immediately she's gone it goes along with her. I'm repeating it. Don't bring up this point again.
If it's all about one night stands, then why don't they just have 'freaking' Roman Reigns on NXT every week, and we'll see if the show will still be about NXT wrestlers proving themselves.

If NXT audience want to see main roster guys, then they should buy tickets for main roster shows and if NXT wrestlers want to wrestle main roster guys, then they should work hard to get called up. Simple. NXT audience also want to see Roman Reigns and 'freaking' John Cena, why aren't they going over? Let's think logically and avoid sentiments.

AEW is usually always close to 1m. Why is this about them now? They produce trash too as far as I'm concerned.

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

Cody Rhodes really wanted to start talking about Jey Uso, but once again, for the second week in a row, he was interrupted by The Judgment Day. In this case, that damn Dirty Dominik Mysterio. He claimed he would dedicate his win over Cody to Rhea Ripley, who is out injured.
Rhodes took a new angle of attack — he dropped a seed into Dom’s head that Ripley clearly isn’t into him the way he’s into her. In fact, she seems to be far more into Jey Uso.
Intrigue!
Dom brushed it off fairly quickly, saying The Judgment Day is family. Right on cue, Finn Balor and Damian Priest hit the scene to join him in a show of support.
Still, I’m kind of surprised there hasn’t been another babyface to take this particular point of attack against him. The fans absolutely ate it up.
They had their match right after, and, to my surprise, Cody just straight up beat him down. It wasn’t quite a squash match but it wasn’t all that far away from one. This came after they showed Dragon Lee in the crowd and revealed he’ll be back on raw next week to challenge Mysterio for the North American championship.
I guess the idea is he’s vulnerable?
Then, in a surprise, Kevin Owens, who had come out with Sami Zayn to help fend off a post-match Judgment Day attack, asked Rhodes to stick around for a chat.
He brought up Rhodes being responsible for bringing Jey Uso to the red brand. He wanted to know why Cody thought it was a good idea to bring him to the locker room.
The response: his job is to make people happy and the people really like Jey. He deserves another chance to show the world that he’s changed. Plus, The Bloodline is down a member this way!
Then it was Sami’s turn to take up for Jey, asking Owens to give him a second chance in the same way he’s given his best friend a second chance. Look where that went. The main event of WrestleMania!
Owens ultimately decided to go along with them, though he wouldn’t go so far as to say he trusts Jey now. His trust in Cody and Sami is enough to allow the space they were asking for, however.
This story with Jey branching off this way, with all the parties involved, continues to be incredibly well told. And it would only get better.
Later, Priest met up with Jey backstage and put on the full court press — he claimed the rest of The Judgment Day wants Jimmy but he wants Jey and came to campaign for as much. They can offer him the family he always wanted but never had while he was with The Bloodline.
Jey didn’t respond. Instead, Priest told him to mull it over and get back to him by the end of the evening.
Some time later, Jey and KO had a confrontation backstage. Owens outright said he thinks Jey is halfway in The Judgment Day while Jey wanted it settled. Zayn played the role of peacemaker. Then he made it clear tonight was all about Jey making his big decision.
“So good luck with that.”
Finally, it was main event time and Jey taking on Drew McIntyre, who wanted payback of his own for all the grief and pain he went through thanks to Jey and the rest of The Bloodline. Naturally, The Judgment Day hit the scene to assist Jey in their continued attempts to get him to join up.
And then he fist bumped Priest. It looked like he may have made his decision.
But then he superkicked Priest, and then did the same to Balor, and finally Dirty Dom.
Decision made indeed.
But McIntyre decided to take advantage anyway, and planted his ass with a Claymore to score the pinfall and the victory. He still needed his pound of flesh and he got it.
The Judgment Day attacked post-match and McIntyre was left tortured over whether he should help or not. He ultimately elected not to do so.
But Cody Rhodes did.
And that’s how the show faded out.
This was a big step forward for this story, and paves the way to Jey having a proper run as a babyface at or near the top of the card. Perhaps there will be more to the McIntyre issue.

Becky Lynch won the NXT women’s championship less than one week ago, and that meant coming back to Monday Night Raw with some gold on her shoulder.
She admitted she didn’t have winning that title on her bingo card this year but she had to take the chance she was given and make the most of it. And that’s what she did. She is now a Grand Slam champion, and that’s nice, but what she really wants is to defend that title and elevate it in a way it hasn’t ever been before.
So she wants to start testing herself against the very best the future has to offer.
But that’s the future. The present demanded an open challenge, so that’s what she wanted to do.
Natalya answered the call, cutting a passionate promo about being dedicated for 15 years now and how Becky is a hypocrite for going to NXT and stepping in the front of the line to take the title for herself. She called Lynch a ginger witch, and got her title match.
Of course, Lynch won that match via roll up. She’s got business to take care of in NXT this week, and she promised to be there. Nattie, meanwhile, was left disappointed in the ring and who knows where she goes from here.

Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler just decided to join forces to become a tag team the other week. The women’s tag team division is such that this meant they got a non-title match against the champions, Chelsea Green & Piper Niven.
That’s something I’m going to take every opportunity to talk about because WWE continues doing very little to address the issue.
In the end, they didn’t even get to go to a finish for the match. That’s because Nia Jax showed up to put the boots to everybody, leaving all four women in the ring annihilated.
“It’s open season,” she was heard saying as she walked up the ramp. “I’ll take out anyone I want. The women’s division is on notice.”
Both Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez were given the week off to sell injuries from Jax from last week. They’ve given her one hell of a return story — a monster destroying everyone. The question is whether anyone is going to get invested in her like this.
Me, I’m not really there. But it may be worth waiting and seeing on this one.

All the rest
-The New Day were supposed to work a 2-out-of-3 Falls match against The Viking Raiders but we learned Erik is not medically cleared. So instead, Kofi Kingston won a game of rock, paper, scissors with Xavier Woods to work a singles match against Ivar. It was a pretty damn good match, too, a physical back-and-forth that saw Kingston survive a lot of punishment from the big fella to score the pinfall victory off Trouble in Paradise following a sunset flip powerbomb.

-Seth Rollins tried to attack Shinsuke Nakamura before the latter’s scheduled match against Ricochet, as he was good and pissed about everything Nakamura has been saying and doing the past few weeks. Officials, of course, held the world heavyweight champion back. The match went ahead and it was fine but ended with Ricochet electing to use a chair Nakamura was going to use on him and getting disqualified for it. Rollins came out to brawl after, and ended up in the trainer’s room. This is a really basic pro wrestling feud but I’m still quite enjoying it.

-Chad Gable campaigned for another Intercontinental championship match and was told he impressed everyone with his performance against GUNTHER. Bronson Reed showed up to offer a challenge of his own and wouldn’t you know it, the big man was just too much for Gable to overcome. This is upsetting in the sense that I kind of really wanted Gable to get another shot at the title and maybe he be the guy to win it but if they aren’t going that direction, it makes some sense to make that clear by having him take a loss like this.

-Tommaso Ciampa talked about making his own opportunities, and then he went out and submitted Giovanni Vinci. Ludwig Kaiser was none too happy about the defeat. The match was fine. GUNTHER was watching on a monitor backstage. Could it be that Ciampa is next in line?

This wasn’t a bad show, but it wasn’t anything special either. It was very much one of those Triple H shows where a lot of story was being told but it couldn’t be all that thrilling because of it.

WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

How About Some Hardcore
Let’s not bury the lede: We’re getting the rematch between Becky Lynch and Tiffany Stratton at No Mercy. And if you read the title to this recap, you know it’s not just any match.
Let’s rewind to this week’s tippy top-no pun intended. Becky opened the show triumphantly and did a little rhyme shouting out the women’s division. Props for stringing all that together but a she needed a bit more rhythm at the end to truly make it sing. But points for cleverness and creativity. She also shouted out Tiffany for giving it all she had and said she gets a rematch any time and any place.
Tiffany, never one to let her name go mentioned without showing up, did just that. No Mercy is the place because she wants her rematch on the biggest stage.
This is where I interject and mention the fact that Tiffany can’t hang on the mic with Becky and they do her no favors putting her in that position. Becky even commented on it before throwing the first punch. I never think any wrestler commenting on the fact another wrestler can’t match them on the microphone particularly helps, unless of course it’s the heel being a jerk and going against reality. But when it’s the face saying what I’m thinking as a fan, I cringe, if only a little.
But I digress. Kiana James showed up to the fight. She and Tiffany beat up Becky and the Man challenged them to a two-on-one match in the main event.
I liked Roxanne Perez volunteering her services as Becky’s partner after she took a beating during her match. It showed her fortitude, newly found fire, and her respect for Becky. It also gave Becky a chance to show her love for Roxanne as well. And, of course, it established Becky’s got more guts than brains because wrestling two women after going one-on-one with Natalya 24 hours ago sounds silly. Especially when one of those women is the former champ who just took Becky to her limit last week.
It also set someone up for a rub because there’s no way Becky comes to NXT without squeezing some of her limelight onto another woman.
Enter Lyra Valkyria. These two have history and it made sense that Lyra came to her side. Especially since Tiffany and Kiana aren’t on her Christmas card list.
I like Becky and Lyra together. They look like an actual team an move like one. Their gear even meshed together. Kiana & Tiffany did the usual heel things but I paid more attention to Lyra here. This is a huge spot for her coming after the other huge spot with Rhea Ripley a few weeks ago. She met the moment with crispness and never looked lost. Working with Rhea before and Becky now makes her better.
That theme continued when Lyra got the pin and W for her team after Becky tagged her in to finish the job once she hit the Manhandle Slam on Kiana.
As the two celebrated, Tiffany went off with a steel chair. She went Aaron Judge on both women and left the champ crawling on her knees towards the ropes. That’s when Becky called for a microphone and bellowed that their rematch is now an Extreme Rules match.
This is another huge match for Tiffany, regardless of the outcome. I hope she acquits herself as well as she did in their first one-on-one.

B-Sides
Stay Schemin’
Walk with me a for a bit because there’s a lot happening with Carmelo Hayes vs. Dirty Dom.
For a few weeks, NXT danced around Melo and Trick Williams getting into a thing. This week, they telegraphed it with a bullhorn. First, Dom got into Trick;s head with his usual tricks. The best moment from that segment came when Trick noted he’s in nobody’s shadow because he “can’t fit in no shadow.” Great line and I want it on a t-shirt not now but right now.
What’s left of Schism invited Trick into their fold. He declined because duh, but their words about his bond with Melo stuck in his head.
Now, if I’m writing it, Melo vs. Trick is Melo’s NXT swan song. Nothing finishes his story better than passing the torch to his best friend on his way out and battling with the guy who gave Melo his swag back after winning the NXT Breakout tourney. But Trick isn’t ready for the belt yet so I prefer we do that down the line.
And that brings us back to Melo vs. Dom. Once again, Dom flexes his improvement. Melo did what Melo does so we got a solid match. Solid because the match had bigger goals in mind than a one-on-one between two champs. With Ilja Dragunov ringside for commentary, Dom found a way to get under Ilja’s skin and pick up a DQ win over the NXT champion. He planned it that way so he’ll surely crow about it once he’s done with Dragon Lee. Speaking of Mr. Lee, he kicked Dom’s teeth down his throat afterward, foreshadowing their match next Monday. But before that, Dom pulled Melo in front of Ilja’s rage and the challenger accidentally nailed the champ with a Torpedo Moscow. And the segment ended with the champ and the challenger jawing at each other with promises of future ass beatings.
And that takes me back to Trick. With him feeling insecure about his friendship with Melo, I see him showing up at No Mercy and possibly costing Melo the title. I don’t want that, I don’t need that, but I foresee shenanigans that don’t bode well for the true A champion.

A Better Tomorrow
Here’s what I really dug about this match between Tyler Bate and Butch: they truly made it an even battle. Last week, both men talked about how well they knew each other and we know their shared history. When presenting the match on that level, the results should backup that talk.
They battled until the actual last minute with neither man gaining an advantage. They reversed one another’s finishers and also used them. Not until Butch hit the Better End did everything fall into place the Brawlin’ Brute. Everything about this match worked and felt logical. That also puts Butch as the Group A winner, which comes as a very pleasant surprise.
Extra points for Meta Four kicking back in their lounge while doing Matrix cosplay. I don’t know about you, but Noam Dar is forever “Neo Dar” now.
As for Duke Hudson vs. Joe Coffey? As predicted, Duke defeated Joe and gave us a three-way tie in Group A. The match went quicker than a hiccup too. Quick finish leading to a three-way tie with all three men in the building. So you know what that means....
Three
Triple threats are always wild and this one fit the bill. Mostly because of clashing styles. Duke and Joe are similar but Nathan Frazer presents a very different element. The big news out of the fun match? Joe Coffey got the W. I wanted that from jump and I’m giddy. Joe vs. Butch screams “violence” and I can’t wait. Even the way he won this match just feels different for the Heritage Cup. He let Nathan do the heavy lifting on Duke, threw him out of the ring, and then hit his finisher on Duke for good measure. Beautiful.

Quiet Storm
Lola Vice impressed me. She seamlessly integrated her MMA background into her wrestling work and held her own against a former champ in Roxanne. That’s no easy thing and yet she made it look effortless. Lola has a personality too, so with more time in the ring and more exposure on the mic, NXT may have a new competitor in the ranks.
Shawn Michaels and co. clearly feel that way too. They booked the match where Roxanne barely survived a match that Lola controlled. Lola caught the former champ off guard and she nearly took an L for sleeping on her competition. A win is a win but we’ll see if this has any future consequences.

This was a fun Tuesday. Everything moved quickly, not a single meh match in the bunch, and we moved all stories forward. Eddy Thorpe challenged Dijak to a strap match, Thea Hail continues her move into adulthood with lots of shopping, and Von Wagner’s status remains unchanged (not good). The tag team scene took a mini backseat this week but for good reason. Now we move forward to the last NXT of the month.
Whew, already?

TFW you drop Jon Moxley on his head twice in a row.

In all seriousness, I hope Moxley isn't hurt too badly and wish him a speedy recovery.

Sloppy-ass Ray Fenix drops Mox on his head. Clearly hurt, Mox doesn't kick out. The incompetent ref stops counting.

Now, this is same incompetent ref that failed to notice that Alex Reynolds was unconscious in the middle of an 8-man tag team match. At least, Aubrey Edwards threw up the X sign when Matt Hardy got hurt. There's just no excuse for this level of amateurism.

Anyway, sloppy-ass Ray Fenix then drops Mox on his head again. Why he didn't just go for another pin or a move other than the same piledriver that just hurt the company's top star, we will never know.

PS: there's no such thing as a "mild" concussion.

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

John Cena kicked off Friday Night SmackDown this week to say he felt like it’s time to take the next step in his latest return to WWE. Instead of being a special guest referee or hanging out on talk show sets, he wanted to wrestle an actual match.
He recruited AJ Styles to be his tag team partner, seeing as they share a common enemy. The Bloodline seemed to agree on a showdown but backed away at the last second, teasing like it wouldn’t happen.
You know, the standard heel stuff.
Naturally, the babyfaces got with Adam Pearce, who got with Paul Heyman, who said he would be fine with it as long as it didn’t happen on this show. The contract was drawn up for Fastlane, and they booked a signing for the main event.
That worked out nicely!
Except Solo and Jimmy had different plans, ambushing Styles backstage just before he could walk out to sign the contract. Cena, it should be noted, had already made his entrance and wasted no time putting pen to paper.
They did an injury angle for Styles, calling in an ambulance to take him away.
You know where this is going.
Heyman made note of Cena having signed without a tag team partner to sign with him. The obvious tease was that someone would come to Cena’s aid. It sounded like fans were chanting “Rocky” in the hopes The Rock would be that person, as silly as that may seem.
Help never came. The show ended simply ended with The Bloodline standing over a beatdown Cena, throwing up the 1’s.
The standard for any story involving The Bloodline is to drag everything out to give it maximum effect when they deliver the next surprise. The fact that reports are indicating LA Knight was set for this spot and tested positive for Covid before the show ends up playing into that.
It’s a pretty decent hook for a tag match at a B show as we inch closer to the much bigger WWE shows early next year.
There are only two weeks to Fastlane.

Iyo Sky finally got the spotlight for a big women’s title defense, something we haven’t seen from her since she won the title at SummerSlam. The match was even a 1-on-1 showdown with Asuka, a battle sure to deliver the goods.
It mostly did just that.
There were a few rough patches but the match was strong for a title match on network television. It was particularly good when they stiffened up and really went after each other like both are capable of doing.
More of that, please!
Sky emerged victorious because, well, she has Damage CTRL and that means Bayley coming to the rescue as needed. Charlotte Flair was also on the scene, and she refused to stand for it. Later, Flair vs. Bayley was booked for next week and Flair vs. Sky likely won’t be far behind it.
That will be the true test for Sky and how WWE feels about her as champion.

During a match pitting Santos Escobar & Rey Mysterio vs. The Street Profits, commentary did a fantastic job of explaining the how and the why behind Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford linking up with Bobby Lashley.
They need respect, and you only get that by winning. They also see the growing emphasis on groups within WWE, and backup is becoming downright necessary. Lashley is looking for backup but also for two strong units to help take all the power.
I liked how they called attention to all of this. It was also a perfect set up for the finish of the match.
Lashley set up Dawkins for an easy pinfall, cheating to chokeslam Mysterio on the apron while Dawkins had the referee distracted. But he hesitated to capitalize and Mysterio rolled him up for the pinfall and the victory. After, the Profits seemed upset and Lashley was particularly unhappy with how this all played out. Again, commentary was great in explaining that Bobby is trying to make them killers and the Profits are still a bit too party and not enough business.
Later, to drive the point home, they had Lashley get down their throat to make it clear that’s the story here. This is the depth they needed for this story, and I’m here for it. It’s not enough to put the Profits in suits and have them next to Lashley — they need actual character growth.
And this is the start of it. In the famous words of Fabrizio Romano—
'Here we go.'

Your LA Knight segment of the week:
Didn’t happen because our favorite guy has Covid.
Get well soon, LA!

All the rest
-WWE aired a replay of The Rock clowning on Austin Theory from last week, so this week Theory came through the crowd to yell at the commentary team while taking the top off their table. He wants credit for some of the many views that segment did. He screamed about it and walked off. I guess the idea here is this is a new Austin Theory. He’s got an edge to him! He’s angry! Look out! It indirectly led to a tag team match, when the Brawling Brutes made fun of his plight while Adam Pearce was trying to get him to calm down. Grayson Waller came to his defense, the pal he is, and they were booked for later. They defeated the Brutes when Waller hit the Rolling Stunner on Ridge Holland and Theory followed up with A-Town Down. It was a fun match.

-Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn are now taking credit for casting a spell or some other such magic that has the women’s tag team titles cursed. So that’s why all these weird things have been happening to the women who win them!
On the men’s tag side, Pretty Deadly are now doing an entire series on Elton Prince’s long road to recovery from his shoulder injury, and they deserve to win an award for it already. #EltonStrong

A standard outing for the blue brand.
