The former minister of sports, Chief Sunday Dare, got Alhaji Aliko Dangote to adopt the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja and Sir Kessington Adebutu to adopt the National Stadium, Lagos. This meant that Dangote sponsored the repair work on the pitch, track and scoreboard at the Abuja stadium and Baba Ijebu sponsored the renovation of the pitch, track and scoreboard at the Lagos stadium.
