od4life: No one is condemning the current state governor, what I am saying is the level of corruption in that state from the days of James Ibori till the last previous administration of Okowa, that state has no business to be poor, including it's citizens, where a commissioner steals 2 billion naira, then what about the governor. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Karemarealty288: '.....has started his tenure well by awarding some contracts in Warri....' To Nigerians this is the definition of good governance... the award of contracts. This is why they vote and 'hope'. But is this real leadership. Does it take politics and democracy to build roads and schools and hospitals. It this not the statutory function of the civil service. We have so reduced governance to a point where it takes the President has to publicly order the security agencies to pursue after criminals, even non state actors of subterfuge. It takes a Federal Minister to order for highways to be maintained or they will be neglected. And other basic but key issues of governance that should never be heard by the public are now great and grand undertakings requiring political grandstanding. And because they feast on the mundane, majoring on the minor, they have no idea whatsoever of how to do their mandate which is to bring ideas, policies and programs to create wealth, security, a good structure, a strengthening of institutions, the evolution of law and justice and the prospering of the people that vote them into responsibility. Politics is Nigeria is reduced completely to contracts and contracting. Go to any State of Federal parastatal and that is practically all they do. Salaries payment and contracts awarding. Yet development is often far. A poser. The Federal Minister of Works has been in the news speaking a lot about the poor state of public works. I have followed his positions a bit but no where have I heard where he has openly criticized the structure of his Ministry or the operators, his staff that are supposed to ensure things work well. All he does is to berate the so called 'Contractors' for the failed state of infrastructure. But are these works not supervised. Are these works not paid for. Who approves payment for shoddy jobs that will not last a decade. He has thousands of staff under his lead. How many has he or will he query for these things. How many 'Consultants' will get the chop for passing valuations for shoddy works.... This is where governance meets politics. And this is where democracy is supposed to bring out a better way forward. Unfortunately when politics is in cahoots with governance to run the whole system down and politicians are in bed with Contractors, then governance suffers. Abeg. The award of contracts is not why any citizen should vote. 4 Likes |

IVORY2009: Who even gave you people this idea that Delta state is poor ? You people that don't travel will be sitting down in one corner of your small town and be typing rubbish... Delta state is amongst the most developed state in southern Nigeria if you don't know, it is a very big state and because of that towns and cities are not located close to major roads. Because ona dey see mosogar and ogharefe along road ona go just assume say na the whole state be that If you go to small towns in Delta like Sapele, Kwale or Ozoro.. you'll discover that this places are even more developed than some capital cities in southern Nigeria.. and the name of this places will not even appear in the list of top 5 places to stay in Delta... Delta state HDI is really high for Nigeria standard.. almost everybody in that State can read and write.. including old people.. and poverty is not rife in the State Omo make ona no dey cap nonsense abeg.. it's just stereotypical.. 9 Likes |

IVORY2009: Nothing to write About? Some of you who don't travel will just sit down and write nonsense. Delta have not been lucky with good leaders will know but apart from Lagos state, No state in Nigeria can be compared to Delta. Rivers State is one City State ( Port Harcourt) just like every other state in Nigeria. Delta Has multiple cities and towns spread across the state because of the Multiple tribes in the State. Places like Sapele, Ughelli, and Agbor are better than most State Capitals in Nigeria not to mention Warri, Effurun, and Asaba. Delta have smaller towns like Obiaruku, Ozoro, Patani, Oghara, Oleh, Abraka, Kwale etc Some will just be passed through Delta to other states and assume they have seen Delta and come here to write rubbish. No Delta Town or city is along Federal Roads, those are the outskirts. Some of you here are singing praises of governor who only concentrates on their state capital which only accounts for not more than 7% of the state Landmass and talk about Delta the government that decentralized development because of the Tribes involved. For those of you who will come here to compare Delta to Akwa Ibom, Delta is almost three of Akwa Ibom but Akwa Ibom received more allocation from FG. 3 Likes |

Stargirl13: I travel far and wide and by the grace of God I am more exposed than you are, I am speaking from facts and figures, Delta State is one of the oil producing states, she has no business to be poor, go to the state today, it's only those that are in government that are making it and smiling to the banks, this is a state with highest earnings from oil revenue from the federal government. 1 Like |

sylve11: Yes this is what I can confirm to you, the commissioner served under James Ibori, and from Isoko, there are no checks and balances in place, if an ordinary commissioner can have 2 billion naira in his bank account, them the governor and others should have 20 times of that, they just sit down and share the resources of the state. |

IVORY2009: That is not the issue on ground. Corruption cuts across all political parties. If you have any proof that a Commissioner in the Delta State Government stole N2bn, then write a petition to the anti-graft agencies and back it up with evidence. Simple! 2 Likes |
